Still can't believe thousands of rounds fired at the dinos and not even a drop of blood drawn from them.. like even their eyes are bullet proof... even those plasma like rifles didn't do anything just scared them...

I just hope they aren't going PETA about it that's why they aren't harming any animals..

OK shows how old I am but did they not used to say that dino brains are small? So while it does effect them they dont feel it till much much later? I think im getting that from land of the lost :P

Really hate that too. I guess killing the dinos is too "mean" for this show.

For all of JP II's (The Lost World) faults, at least it did have that dino-hunter guy all set to bag himself a T-Rex, with nothing more than a large-caliber rifle. An elephant can be brought down with a large enough rifle, so can any 2-legged dino. Something bigger like a .50 caliber machine gun would be really effective, and a gun like that 30mm multi-barrel monster on the A-10 "Warthog", which can shred a modern battle tank like it was made out of cardboard, would rip apart any size dino in seconds.

Yeah - the moon being about 250 miles closer to Earth wouldn't look nearly that big.

My biggest gripe looking long term is the fact that they bothered to come up with a villain (the group of Sixers) - but then tempered the threat in the pilot so they'll never really represent anything ominous.

In fact, all the threats (dinos included) were pretty much neutered.

It's looking like the Sixers may end up less villainous than the other guys, as a twist.

I generally have little patience with people just picking apart something that one knows good and well going into will require suspension of disbelief, but this was so full of lapses in logic and reversions to various cliches that it looks like it will probably fail. The diagrams on the rock look like the only real interesting development.

Another work of movie/TV art that shows the problems encountered when the writing is based not on familiarity with good novels, theater or life experiences, but on comics, graphic novels or other movies or TV shows.

I'll give the show an episode or two more before I decide to cut it loose or not. Overall, I give the pilot an "ok".

My thought is that unless they REALLY have a good storyline cooked up for later, the whole, (very rushed) "throw dad in prison for two years, orchestrate an elaborate breakout/reunion in the nick of time to get through the portal" was a waste. Just explain the rough shape the earth is in, they're smart people, so they got recruited to go to Terra Nova, and send them. That entire 10-15 minutes was unnecessary and could have been used for much better purpose. Like emptying more clips of ammo into the invincible dinosaurs :-)

Im hoping we get 2years backstory from the prison. We can have the trial, cellmates, etc when they show up in this timeline.

If it was the real world the Sixers would have been recruited and financed by the manufactures of re-breathers to make sure nothing changes. If the show sticks around long enough, how much you want to bet someone in the "present" (2149 AD) finds that probe.....or it happens to magically materialize? I get the feeling that the alt timeline stuff is going to come into play.

Overall enjoyed the pilot as 'scifi lite.' I thought the cast was good though the mom a bit dry. Liked the family dynamics/drama and that is what the series seems geared toward. And yes I teared up a bit when Zoey called him 'dad.' SFX were mostly quality for TV (a few bad green screen shots) and I thought they did a good job on how the future was depicted. If you can get past some bad science and indestruco dinos...could be fun.

That sounds interesting.

So I can almost guarantee it won't happen.

What I do expect to happen is the absent girlfriend gets sent through with the next batch of pilgrims and that cues up a whole heap of teen romance trouble for the annoying son and rebel. Probably just after they have their first date kiss.

Yep, that moon was at least 50% larger if not more in the show. If you use the shows math (moon moves 1 cm away each year) then the moon would only be about 528 miles closer to Earth. The moon is on average about 235,000 miles away; and 528 miles is only about .002% closer which would not be noticeable at all.

Maybe I screwed up my math but, here is what I did:

1 cm/year for 85 million years = 85,000,000 cm
85,000,000 cm = 33,464,567 in
33,464,567 in = 2,788,714 ft
2,788,714 ft = 528 miles
528 / 235,000 = .002%

Yes, i watched this too, I have a hard time thinking why go to "before the Astrometero" that wiped out most of the larger land based animals{man would be in this group}- a 1 million year winter....
#2. I see no chemistry between husband/wife( or the family as a whole) at all!{ even if she had to sleep around to get the $1000000 euros to bribe the guy with the " package"}.
If a Director does/can't create chemistry between the actors/themselves and the viewers then it is doomed .. unless there is really good CGI and Sci-Fi material.
I hope this is not another SGU-1.

I missed the beginning ... did they address the fact the atmosphere of the dino era had lots more oxygen (something like 35% I think)? That was one of the reasons dino's (and other animals of the time) got so big...

Yes they did. Paramedics were on the scene of the pilgrimage arrival to assist with people who could not handle the higher oxygen percentage. One poor slob had some huge parasite attached to him by the medical staff to consume some of the excess O2.

Word I got from someone I know in Hollywood-a big part of the problem with this show stems from a late in the game change in the shows overall concept.

Initially the show was going to be comedy told from the point of view of the dinosaurs!

It wasn't going to be called "Terra Nova" either. That's just some lame last minute patch over. The show was originally going to be called "How I Et Your Mother"

The moon is indeed moving farther from earth, due to the Earth's rotation slowing down (very very gradually) from friction caused by the atmosphere and ocean tides; to conserve angular momentum, the moon slowly moves away. Three billion years ago or so, the day was only 18 hours long and the moon would have looked like it did in TN, 85 million years is nothing on the geological time scale.

I believe the Sixers are from another time line, the one that is being threatened by Taylor and his colony.
