Problems with Samsung HLN 61" DLP shutoff

Hi all,

I have a Samsung HLN617W DLP TV (2004) that every once in a while automatically shut off on its own. When that happens, the 3 led lights timer/lamp/temp show solid green/green/red and stay that way. Note that this combination of leds is not in the book nor anywhere online.

When it shuts off, I cannot then turn the TV back on from the remote, manually, or even by unplugging/replugging into the electric outlet.

Of note too is that when it turns off, and the leds are on, the fans in the back are actually working and some small green led inside is also on.

I have been able in the past to unplug the TV from the AC outlet and plug it into a different outlet to resolve, but lately even that doesn't work. When I unplug it from electricity, it obviously turns off everything, but then plugging the TV to the AC outlet only brings back the same symptoms (leds and fan in the back without being able to turn the TV on).

I have tried the following but still didn't help:
- clean dust inside, but it looks clean anyhow.
- remove the lamp and reinstall it.
- open the lamp door and close it to make sure the sensor is fine.

I have read online about many people who had automatic shut off problems with their samsungs but nobody mentioned any possible fixes or even the reason why it was happening. I just want to know if others have witnessed this problem and if anybody has a possible fix or workaround.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the reply... Amazingly, this has no pattern WHATSOEVER!!!

If there was a patter, I can easily pinpoint the problem and either pay to get it fixed, or replace the bad part myself. However, it can work for months and then display the symptoms only to last for a few days and then disappear!

Oh well, since it is not persistent at this point, I will live with it, but I just wanted to know if others had further experience with it.

Thanks anyway.

How old is the lamp?

to my knowledge, under 2 years. I bought the TV used a few months ago.

By the way, I seem to have jinxed myself! The pattern is now persistent! The TV went off yesterday and is still showing the same signs and I am unable to restart.
