Vidikron Image II - What can you tell me about it?

Someone just gave me a brand new Vidikron Image II projector. I know very little about it. I know that it is a few years old and it can do 720P/1080i but aside from that, know nothing.

It is a good project?

If I wanted to sell it, how much do you think would be a fair price for and is there a market?

As far as I was told, it is new and works. I coworker of mine gave it to me. His brother has an OEM assembly business and they used to build these units for Vidikron. This was one of two that he had in his garage wrapped up.

Really... sure looks like a CRT projector to me? Maybe I'm wrong or I have the wrong model. This thing is pretty big. About 2 ft wide by 3 ft long. Has three bulbs - RGB. I didn't think they made digital PJs with 3 bulbs. The casing is off white.

Does it still sound like a digital PJ?

I can't find anything pertaining to the "Image 2". Take a look at this list of Vidikron projectors on Curt's site. It's most probably one of(or comparable to) the 7" machines. (copy and paste link as I'm too new to create a click-able link)

OK... I did a little searching and found this thread

The PJ pictured is the exact one I have. If you scroll down to the last post, that guy he recommends speaking to is the brother of the my friend that let me have it.

I'm still at a loss as to whether this is a decent PJ and if there is a market for it. Not sure if I will keep it or sell it at this point.

Ahhh that looks like the Vidikron VP 40. Vidikron called most of their early digital PJ's "image" that is where i got confused. The smaller CRT's like the 7" one you have were mostly based on the Electrohom ECP series but the one you have I think was based on a DWIN chassis if IIRC. there was a post on Curt palme's about it I think.

I believe this is a vidikron made chassis, and is a video only set. Unfortunately that picture does not help much, I'd need to see a picture of the guts to tell you more, or of the rear input panel.

If it's the set I think it is, it is a video only set, and will not do HD or any data projection. Parts are almost impossible to find, and if it is a non HD set, it's completely worthless, and worth maybe $100-200 if it can do data/HD projection.

Before The Vidikron VPF series which were based on the marquee ECP and cost about $20K, they released a chassis in 1999 that they actually designed and built in Italy called a Kronos 1. It was a disaster, rant hotter than hell, ate power supply's like buttered popcorn, and demonstrated why you should only design shoes and clothes in italy.
