Advice on Dshnet home setup?

New here, maybe the wrong place to post this? and maybe kind of long but I'd sure appreciate some advice so I don't make the wrong choices...

Currently have 2 old TV's
Getting 2 new TV's
Have 3 kids.

Old TV's:
42" Toshiba rear projection Cinema Series (HDTV "ready"?).
28"? Toshiba Cinema Series tube.

New TV's:
47" Vizio XVT473SV (backlit LED LCD) - going in living room
37" Vizio XVT373SV (edgelit LED LCD) - going in master bedroom

Current Dishnet equipment:
508D in living room. We use the DVR a good bit.
311 in master bedroom -- (if we had DVR it might get used some but pause would be nice.)

Ideally I would like to have
View HD content in both Living room and master bedroom
Major DVR capabilities in Living room.
Would like to view HD DVR content in the master bedroom. At least have pause type capabilities.
SD feed to small Toshiba in kid's bedroom1 (42" projection will go into kid's bedroom 2 and be dedicated to an Xbox.

The Vizio's both have wireless N capabilities (don't know if it's only through the supplied Vizio Internet Apps or if I could stream other content to them).
I have a wireless network in the home with a d-link DIR-655 Extreme N router.

I could get a 722K for the living room and TV2 would be the old Toshiba in the kids room. Then maybe a 211 in the master bedroom ... but no dvr that way.

I could get 2 612's but then DVR'd content would only be available where it was recorded -- could not watch dvr content recorded in the living room in the master bedroom (and certainly not in HD). and visa versa. And the 612's are single tuner only? so the kids would be out of luck in their bedroom.

If I got a 722K with a sling adapter (or a 922K) could I sling content to the Vizio in the bedroom?

What is the quality of sling'd HD content? or is it only SD? Is there a bandwidth issue? if I have other things going on the network? The DIR-655 does have the capability to configure some sort of QOS to allocate/prioritize bandwidth based on content? or destination? or something.

I'm fairly computer/network savvy. I am perfectly capable of complicated wireless setups/configurations. Like maybe dd-wrt another couple of wireless routers into the network, or subnetting it, or stuff like that.

I just have to make a decision on the Dishnet hardware in the next couple of days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's basically:
3 tv's (maybe 4). 2 HD and 1 SD. Ideally, I would like to share all DVR content.

Here are some things to keep in mind. The TV2 output on the 722k is a SD output. A Slingbox will output HD to a second set, but only if you have a pc/laptop connected to the second set. I've heard of people connecting an external hard drive to the 211 to use as a dvr. You have to pay Dish a one time $40 fee to use the hard drive. And I've heard that you can use a hard drive as large as 1 tb.

So if HD is important to you for the kids tv, then buy a Slingbox and have a dedicated pc hooked up to the kids tv. Make sure you have a decent video card in the pc. Otherwise just connect the TV2 output to the kids set. Dish recommends minimum 3mps connection to stream HD (a minimum 1.5mps for SD). The Slingbox will stream HD or SD, whatever channel your watching. Then get a 211 with an external hard drive for your bedroom.

I have a 722k with composite cables hooked up to my basement HDTV. HD isn't too important there because it's used for Xbox360 and pc gaming with Blu Ray watching thrown in. I also have a rooftop antenna that gets ota hd to this and my living room tv. SD on this set isn't too bad at all. I guess it's upconversion abilites are pretty good. I also have a 500 gb hard drive connected to the 722k. I do have a sd 32" crt on the second floor, but it's just used for tape/dvd viewing, retro gaming and (very rarely) ota watching.

Great information, thanks.

Not too concerned about the kids... What I would want to do is sling DVR'd content from the 722K to the second TV in the master bedroom. I want all HD in the master bedroom. I don't want to have to record/DVR the same show in both places. I guess it's a workaround to sort of make TV2 HD

I'm thinking this will be my solution:
722K in living room w/sling adapter (have to compare to 922K)
222K in master bedroom

TV2 output of 722K to old TV in kids' room 1
TV2 output of 222K to old TV in kids' room 2

Sling HD dvr content from 722K to pc in master bedroom.

Thanks much for the info. (any opinions on the 922K over the 722K?)

The 922 has a 1 tb hdd, twice the size of the 722k. Since it has the Slingbox already built-in, you'd have one less power plug to worry about and less of a space problem. Other than that I don't really know because I haven't investigated replacing my 722k. The 722k is an excellent dvr.

Ok, don't know what happened... but I ended up with two 722Ks.

Talked about a 922 but they wanted a $200 upgrade fee. No matter what, no way around it. 722K was a free upgrade. Remember that I required HD in 2 rooms. Currently I have a 508D and a 311.

722K only: -$1/mo
722K + 211: +$6/mo
612 + 612: +$9/mo
722K + 722K: +$16/mo

Another option I thought I had was 722K + 222K. I figured with that I would either get the external drive enabled for the one time fee or I would get a sling adapter and stream HD DVR'd content from the 722K to the bedroom. The account specialist said:
The external drive is not an option on the 222K -- I believed that.
The sling adapter does not stream HD (only SD) -- I didn't believe that

So... there were a variety of promos, and I've been a good Dishnet sucker for at least 10 years, and I was willing to commit for another 2 years -- I went with the.
722K + 722K for +$16/month
Free install (new dish, new cables, to 4 rooms)
Free activations
Free HD upgrade (for life -- of the subscription)
and just a week or two ago they give me free Starz for 1 year.
Apparently I have the option to downgrade equipment paying only $15 return postage...

Will run the TV2's to the two kids's rooms even though I expect one of the old TVs to be dedicated to the Xbox (which won't be in the living room any more )

Thanks for all the advice.

I have a 722 with sling adapter and cannot keep it connected. They have replaced the receiver and adapter to no avail. My connection is hardwired to a DD-WRT Linksys WRT54GL. Any ideas?
