What to buy for a BYT setup?

I'm alreaday getting the itch to setup my BYT (BackYard Theater) but would like to upgrade my existing audio setup. I currently have 3 older (10 years plus) 120 watt JBL box speakers. Right, Left and Center going to my receiver a Kenwood VR-6070. For my sub I have a 250 watt 12 inch sub.

The sound last year was ok for an audeince of around 10 - 20 people. This year we expect to have a larger audience of around 20 - 40 people so what would you recommend for sub and speakers?

Ideally I would like something to work with my current receiver if at all possible but I definetaly needs something louder. I have a budget between$750 - $1000.

What do you guys receommend?

Any help is appreciated,
-Paul

Here's what I did.

I went mono so I'd maximize the intelligebility of the sound. The second reason I went mono is I don't have enough bass bins to go stereo! lol

Before your heart jumps.... realize that the bottom two bass bins were bought for $200 total ($100 each)

So the point is, if you look around and are patient, you can get some killer speakers at a good price.

I did pay out the nose for the top horn (big one on top) but, you could come up with something else.

I'm looking at moving this stack down by the lake this summer and do a "boat-in" movie, much like the old drive-in movies of yesteryear.

Should be fun if I can pull it off.

If you know how big a LaScala is then that will give you a good idea of size.

Regardless of what you do, I AM under the personal belief that horns will give you the best dynamics and clarity of sound (at the huge expense of size)

Hope you have an understanding wife

Wow, that is impressive. so basically the bottom line is keep an eye open for some used equipment. I've decided to go to guitar center and see what they have for used equipment for my setup.

My only concern is the clarity of sound more specifically the dialog. I don't want it lost in the special effects of the movies.

Thanks again for the info...

I think I might need to keep this a secret from the wife
