My video card, 8800GT, has s-video out on it, will this be sufficient to convert vhs?

I want to convert vhs to dvd, can I plug in my vcr to the graphics card s-output and then i would be able to record the VHS tapes onto my hard drive?

If I'm able to do this, can anyone recommend any good software to bring VHS footage onto my HD?

edit: what would be better quality?
VHS/DVD recorder or transferring the VHS to a digital source and burning the videos onto DVD?

VHS/DVD recorder is the SIMPLE way to do it. With VHS the quality isn't very good to begin with, I don't see an advantage to using a PC unless you just want to save files to HDD. To use a PC you will need a capture card, the S-video on your 8800 is an OUTPUT.

Video cards only have outputs unless you have an old ati card that has vivo AKA video in/video out.
A VHS/DVD recorder will cost you around $100+ while a capture card can be bought for as little as $20. The capture card will require a little more work but its cheaper. You need to decide if you want ease of use or cheap.
