Just replaced the bulb today in my venerable Sony VW-50 Pearl. It's like getting a new projector.

Double feature tonight is Shrek Forever followed by The Social Network.

Myabe I'll get around to upgrading to a new projector next year.

A new bulb is always awesome. How many hours did you put on your last one?

I think it was around 1,000 hours.

Every time I change the bulb I get a "plastic burning" smell. Do the newer Sony projectors have this smell when new, or when changing the bulbs?

No plastic smell with my brand new bulb/projector.

Is it anything like the new card smell? Seriously, that doesnt sound right but if you keep getting this smell after 2 or 3 bulb changes and everything works fine, I would guess that there is no issue

Daniel - do a quick search and you will find plenty of AVS members commenting on the burning smell from their Pearls. I also remember reading Geoffrey Morrison's review in HT magazine where he went so far as to recommend that owners turn their projectors on outdoors to get past the cooking electronics stench!
