URC-WR7 unable to learn discrete power on/off

Hi all,

AVS newbie here. I looked/searched in the various threads in this forum area but could not find a reference to the problem I'm having, so here's my first post :-)

I bought an URC-WR7 which I like a lot, to the point that it has effectively replaced a Harmony 880 as my main remote. (I like that it is a purely button-based remote, and does not require going to the PC for programming.)

I was able to program the WR7 to do everything that I wanted, except discrete on/off codes for my components. It just won't learn them from my Harmony (which works fine in that regard).

The devices I'm having trouble with are:
Plasma TV - Panasonic TH42PD50U
BD Player - LG BD390
Receiver - Yamaha HTR-6063

Like I said, my Harmony sends discretes just fine for these, but when I try to learn them on the power on/off buttons of the WR7, it just doesn't work. The WR7 blinks that it "learned", but after that the buttons still behave as power toggle, not discrete on/off.

The weirdest thing is that I also have a Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player for which the WR7 *was* able to learn the discrete on/off commands from my Harmony 880. (HD-A3 is currently controlled via "CD" button of the WR7 and the discrete on/off works just fine!)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sometimes the R5, R6, R7, WR7, and Gamer models of URC universal remote will simply refuse to learn certain commands, why? I can't answer that, solution stay away from those models. The next models up in the urc line, do not have this problem. Which include RF10, and RF20.

The first models listed have a very small learning memory, you might be out of mermory?

I am not out of memory... I had thought about that at first, but the remote can still learn other codes, it's just the power discretes from the devices listed that are not learned.

This WR7 is more than adequate for its price and I am very happy with it, even without these discrete commands. But I was hoping to find a fix or at least an explanation for this issue... thanks anyway.

It may not be the URC remotes. I have had difficulty learning commands from a Harmony to much more expensive controllers and found that sometimes the codes in their database work but are not pure. There are a lot of functions in the Harmony database that were collected from users and technicians and are not necessarily the same codes originally designed by the manufacturer.

One tip that my help though... Change the repeat settings in h Harmony remote and try again... You just may find a combo that work but I may take a lot of trial and error.
