Axiom vs. Aperion

Thread Starter
So I have narrowed done my choices for speakers for my home theather and I was hoping to get some feedback prior to making my decission. I have a 19x19x8 room. It will have a 110 inch screen with projector, and will be used primarily for watching movies, sports and TV. I have narrowed my choices down to the following:

Axiom
2 M80
1 VP180
2 QS8

Aperion
2 Verus Grand Towers
1 Verus Grand Center
2 Intimus 4BP

I will have HSU sub. Thoughts or opinions by anyone?

My thought is that you really should listen to them and buy the ones that sound best to you. Speakers are very subjective. In fact one of the last really subjective aspects of audio what with modern receivers and auto EQ. I will say that Axiom tends to be very forward like Klipsch. Some find them shrill and fatiguing over time. Some don't. But I don't think many would argue that they are a forward sounding speaker. I've owned several models of Axiom. Eventually sold them. Hated their center channel speaker but perhaps they have changed it as the model I owned was the VP150.

I agree with the above. Go with what sounds best to your ears. There is no "right" answer that can be provided by us.

Also agree. I will say that both companies offer great speakers. Based on my experience, I feel Aperion speakers are a bit more balanced and less hot up top.

I've never owned Axiom but i've heard more than one person say they didn't like the VP150. Why is that? The specs check out to be pretty impressive with high power handling and high sensitivity.

Only Aperion pays for shipping both ways...I'd say order both and judge for yourself in home. If you decide to keep the axioms your shipping is already paid for by Aperion and with Axiom it is not.

Am in the same situation. Curious as to what did you ended up doing, and if you are satisfied with it?

Well, I had Axiom speakers.

I have Aperion speakers.

Both of the setups you listed will probably be excellent for HT.

The Axioms are rated to be much more efficient, so louder with less power is good is it not?
Especially for movies.
How much amp are you planning on using?

If you're basing a speaker purchase on specs, you're doing it wrong.

I wasn't. Just pointing out that the Axioms require less power, which for HT use is kind of important if your budget constrained.

home theatre hifi web site has a good review on the axiom system.

It is not the one I was looking for, for you though. I read one recently where the reviewer went gaga for the system, and said the vp180 was light years ahead of the 150 (but I can't find that review right now).

I bought Aperion's full 6 system in Nov/2010, and had planned to compare the 6T's with Axiom M60's or M80's, and return the 'loser'.

I got the Aperion system on their holiday deal in first, and was so pleased with them (espeically for the price), I didn't even order the Axioms (was going to have them all home together for 2 weeks as both brands have a 30 day home trial).

I've read good reviews on Axiom, and have read they are a bit bright (but I've never heard them). I find the 6T's plenty bright, so in my room, I'm pretty sure they were the right choice for me.

The new Verus line should be even better.

You really need to hear both brands, but you could do a lot worse than either.
