new amp, speakers buzzin??

just got a Rotel RMB 1095. sounds amazing with my polk rti A9s when watching a movie or listening to CDs. When i have nothing playing i can hear a slight buzzing sound from my speakers.. all 5 channels. it does get worse when i turn on all my lights and does not completely go away when i turn them all off. just curious as to what is causing this annoying buzz. any help greatly appreciated

Ground loop ?

Try disconnecting and connecting equipment one piece at a time to see which piece of equipment is causing the hum..

OR

Try a different electrical socket other than the one the lights run off of.

If you don't know whats running on what turn everything off in the house than go to electrical panel and turn off one breaker at a time to see what can't be turned on (No Power).


That is how I found out whats running on what.Mark everything down for future reference.

Simple explanation here and how to troubleshoot.

Are your lights on dimmer switches? That could explain why it gets worse when the lights are turned off.

A few years ago, a buzzing-type of sound caused trouble with a subwoofer in my basement HT room. I got rid of the buzzing by removing a dimmer in an upstairs dining room.

yes they are..... its like dimmer central in my house. apparently very popular in the 80s when my house was built

ground loop hum it was...... cheater plug into a different outlet solved the problem. seems like i tried it the other day but it didnt go away. oh well fixed now. thnks

no, it's identified, not fixed...

don't just leave the cheater plug in place... that ground is there for a reason...

now that you know what the issue is, take the proper steps to fix it...

safety first...
