auto motion and none film based content

Just to clarify, I do not mean 120hz or motion flow but the other Auto Motion 1, Auto Motion 2 and off settings.

My question is: does Auto Motion 1 or 2 effect things that aren't film based? for example, will my setting of auto motion 1 or 2 effect how a hockey game looks on my tv or does it only effect film based content such as movies and shows?

I like that there's no blur while watching sports but I'm not too big a fan of the "soap opera effect". Is there any way to get sports to be blur-free and films and shows to be regular and not have the "soap effect"?

I'm assuming you're talking about Auto Motion Plus on Samsung sets. It effects all source material. If you don't like the soap opera effect, keep the judder setting low and set to clear or custom with Blur at 10 and Judder at 0.

Or are you referring to Film Mode with settings Auto1 and Auto2? This is the set's deinterlacer and specifically effects film source material by doing reverse 3:2 pulldown on all film source material. Keep it on Auto1.

yeah, sorry for the mix up, I meant film mode and auto 1 and auto 2, not auto motion.

and thanks for the response. So I guess it's not "auto 1" that gives it the soap effect, and it's the actual setting I have the motion flow set to? ( I have a Sony, not a Samsung).

That's correct. On Sony it's called MotionFlow. On the Sony's I don't think you have the option for custom settings and you can only choose from Off, Standard, or High. So if you don't want the soap opera effect, go for either Off or Standard. But it does work great for sports so try it on High for football, hockey...etc.

Film mode on the Sony is called Cinemotion, and the settings of Auto1 and Auto2 might be a little different than those on the Samsung. This setting applies to film source material and has nothing to do with the Soap Opera effect. Try both settings to see if you notice a difference.

My recommendation? turn it off!

I did some research and a couple people who reviewed the tv I have said a combination of Motionflow standard and film mode set to auto2 eliminates the soap opera effect and keeps the image blur free. so I'll give that a try, see how that looks.

update: Auto2 made a difference. The tv shows and movies lose a lot of that "soap opera effect" by switching from film mode auto1 to auto2 and the sports seem to be unaffected by the change.
