Thats is a dangerous assumption and a misleading opinion to share with others.
Yes the lamp can get damaged but its heat surrounding all internal parts is just as if not more the main reason the fan needs its time to cycle. I am not sure why this is so hard to understand.
If you dont think you need one thats cool, its your unit but to say the bulb is the only thing that could be trashed (hinting thats no big deal when it is hundreds of bucks to replace) while ignoring the obvious POSSIBLE damage to the more expensive unit and its sensitive parts is bad information.
For the cost of a new bulb (that could get trashed as you admit) you can have a solution that will prevent this issue from maybe happening so the unit is actually free if you think about it.
A car can hit a tree, a rodent take out a sub station, hell a tree branch took out the entire north eastern U.S. in Aug 2003, then you have weather and countless other outage potentials that could happen no matter how much you watch.
The spirit of this thread is to just get people talking and thinking about this.
