*cliffnotes is xbmc OUT OF THE BOX compatible with hdmi bitstreaming DTS/MA with my specific computer build?*

hello all,

Long time lurker here. 2 + years. ive spent the last 6 years of my life jailed up in an institution of higher learning, and am now the proud owner of a 150,000 piece of paper that proves i graduated.

i am no longer a poor boy and am now working in my field of study (medicine) and have some cash burning a hole in my pocket.

i have auditioned psb, monitor, paradigm, klipsch, velodyne and polk.

i am purchasing the studio series from paradigm.

My current gear:

onkyo 608
360
panasonic viera 50 inch

despite this being my first post, i am not new to forums. i post on 4 other forums. including nike and bodybuilding.com.

im fluent in protocol such as liking direct imgs and such. i plan on being a contributor, so id appreciate if some of the elder scrolls could contribute to a young buck like myself.

i have a piece of paper infront of me that is an itemization of a super computer i plan to build to kick start my av endeavor. i understand its a marathon and am approaching it as such. i patiently wait on newegg and vanns, then i buy.

planned computer is custom built

i7 quad
12 gb g skill ram
windows 7 loaded on 60 gb ssd hd for boot up times
2 tb wd caviar green hd
gts 5 series graphics
happauge colossus (released next week??)
lite on blu ray
anydvd (with shark 007 and the other 3 programs samir or w/e his name suggested for the rips/encodes)
antec 900 blue led case w/ blacklight tape
and mustiff green led 800 w power supply

thats the build 1600 bucks. i plan to add 2 sonos walkie talkies to it as well.

WHAT I NEED TO KNOW (the point of this thread)

is my 608 receiver and said computer with the xbmc media center going to be able to bit stream hd/master audio from blu ray out of the box. my graphics card is nvidia which supports HD i know,

but ive been reading dantes blog from this site and i PLANNED on using wmc7 until i read the nightmare that is his description on how to simply get it to friggin work in wmc7. the amount of sheet you have to add and edit is ridiculous. and i am not going to spend a buck fifty on a rig and have to add all this crap just to play a blu ray, there is ridiculous then there is reDONKulous. and to do that is redonkulous.

This is the Home Theatre forum and for watching video your "buck-fifty" rig is way overkill! There are several guides in this forum which will steer your toward a suitable system once you describe your wants/needs for it to do.

There's a whole lot more than the HTPC, there's storage, TV-recording, ripping, conversion to .mkv w & w/o flac (for HD audio), video streaming, front-ends, remotte controls, OS, tuners, and you mention Colossus yet it still won't capture HDMI due to HDCP and what else would you use it for and have you looked at their 1212?

I don't use XBMC nor have I upgraded to 1080p & HD-audio, so I can't address your main question. Have you considered a $118 BR player?

Overkill.

Think stealth bomber instead of fighter jet.

Yah unless thats also going to act as your main rig drop that cpu and ram way down. Graphics too 5xx is also way overkill.

But judging by the case maybe this is more then just an htpc.

Without knowing what you'll be using this rig for exactly -- i.e. what software you will be running and/or what functionality you want/need -- there's no way to suggest a system. What you need depends solely on what you want to do with it.

This forum needs a "how to ask for help" sticky like at Tom's Hardware -- a form to fill out that asks the questions that help answer the questions

That's the keyword right there.

1. You are building a custom PC
2. You'll be the one loading and configuring the OS
3. You'll be the one installing and configuring XBMC
4. You'll be the one choosing, installing and configuring additional software on the PC (like AnyDVD).
5. You'll be the one choosing, buying and installing the cabling between components.

Well... guess what? There IS no out of the box, as there is no box to begin with. Your outcome will depend on your knowledge/expertise/actions/blunders/etc etc...
