Blown center channel woofer

I bought a full set of HTD Level 3 speakers about 5 years ago. I recently noticed some rattling from the center channel. I believe I have a partially blown woofer. If so, I guess I'm in the market for a new center channel. With all the options out there, would anyone like to point me in a general direction? Use is primarily HT and obviously I like to listen loud...hence the partially blown woofer.

Thanks in advance.

If you like it that loud you should look into speakers that can go LOUD without distortion or compression. CHT SHO-10's are inexpensive, then you could go to JTR speakers next, then look at Seaton speakers.

HTD carries a 5 year warranty on their speakers. Are you out of warranty?

Thanks for the info. I'll start looking. I knew the warranty issue and I have just started conversations with them. If I'm in the warranty window it will be within weeks so we will see.

Another question. I remember reading a long time ago that you always want to buy a center channel that matches the fronts. Does that need to be a consideration as I look if I'm out of warranty on this one?

Yup. Having had different speakers across the front three it is very noticeable. If you stick with the same brand and the same model lineup then you should have a seamless transition when sound pans across your LCR speakers.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I have a couple options. I currently have floor standing speakers because I wasn't overly confident in my sub. That changed when I got the HSU VTF-15H. So...in theory I could go with some higher quality bookshelf type speakers instead of towers.

Or...I could just replace the blown woofer...but that wouldn't be nearly at much fun.
