IN72 - 1080p - Cannot Get It to Go

I have an Infocus IN72, purchased almost 5 years ago. I just bought a Vizio VBR220 BlueRay player. I cannot get the IN72 to display 1080p, it only displays 1080i.

I did have it going through an Onkyo TX-SR604, but I bypassed it and plugged the BlueRay player directly into the IN72...still no luck.

I've looked at all the settings...cannot find anything else to try.

Any suggestions? Maybe the IN72 just can't do it? The specs says it can thru HDMI.

Thanks.

That projector has a native resolution of 854x480 Pixel which is SD. When you send it anything greater that SD signal the projector must scale down the image to fit in it's 854x480 chip.
I have owned this projector and sending it a 720p from the cable box produced a better image then the 480, but with BR I would try setting the player to 480 and then compare that to 720. I would expect the new player to do a better job of scaling than the projector.. but you should try it both ways and compare. You are not displaying 1080 anything, just scaling it down to fit, so there is really nothing to gain...

1080i is basically the same as 1080p on a digital. On a 480p digital its even more irrelevant.

1080i and p are not the same.

Note that IN72 does not accept 1080p via HDMI or M1-DA. It accepts 1080p only via component. I have the IN72 and I feed it 1080i from the cable box as I don't want my cable box doing the 480p conversion.

So if your Blu-Ray player can do a good conversion to 480p, just send it 480p.

HDMI

480i/50Hz/60Hz
480p/50Hz/60Hz
576i/50Hz/60Hz
576p/50Hz/60Hz
720p/50Hz/60Hz
1080i/50Hz/60Hz
1080i/50Hz (Australia)

Component

480i/p/50Hz/60Hz
576i/p/50Hz/60Hz
720p/50Hz/60Hz
1080i/50Hz/60Hz

1080p/24
1080p/60 (sub-sampled)

The InFocus IN72 literature is misleading then. When I read it it seems to indiciate that it can accept 1080p over HDMI. Most BR players only put out 1080p over HDMI, not Component.

So if I follow the posts...I should set the BlueRay player to 480p or 720p and then it will send to projector?

Yes that is correct.

Buy a 1080p projector, feed it 1080i, and show me the interlacing.

Digital projectors are by default progressive scan whether it is 480 or 720 or 1080. So if you feed any interlaced signal, it will be deinterlaced to convert from 'i' to 'p'.

Some digital displays (including TV's) accept only 1080i/60 where as some do accept 1080p/24.
