Help playing Blu Ray rip with VLC or PowerDVD

So I've been trying to figure this out for weeks now and am stumped. I'm hoping that someone on here can help me find a solution to this problem. It appears that I'm doing everything right, but I'm obviously missing something.

What I'm trying to do is load an ISO using either Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% and then play the file with either VLC or PowerDVD 10. These are all Blu Ray rips that I'm trying to play back and they all should work just fine. When I mount the ISO on my virtual drive (I and it autoplays in either VLC or PowerDVD, I get an error.

This is the error I get from VLC:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://I:\\'. Check the log for details.

This is the error I get from PowerDVD:

There is a disc with an unsupported format in drive I:

I would appreciate any help I can get on this topic, as I have searched through forums and google for an answer to this with no luck at all.

I don't know if VLC can play Blu-Ray format, however the most popular free program is MPC-HC. Read up about it, download it and try it.
PDVD has a documented problem of not playing mounted ISO files.
AnyDVD (a paid software) can take care of that. However, it is quite expensive and if MPC-HC works (as it should) you don't really need to spend the money to buy it now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm looking into this now. I'll let you know how it turns out for me. I just thought that what I had would work, based on everything I read. Guess I didn't read enough.
