New HTPC build, comments?

I have started putting my HTPC together today

I have.
case: Antec NSK-2480
System board: Intel DH67GD, to be replace when available
System drive: WDC WD5000BEVT installed under the 5.5 inch bay
Wifi adapter: D-Link DWA-131
Keyboard: HP Wireless Mini Entertainmet Keyboard
Card reader: Sandisk SDDR-189-A20

I am considering for the rest of the parts.
CPU: Intel i7-2600K
Ram: Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G x 4
Data drives: WDC WD20EVDS x 3
Floppy drive: Bytecc BT-144
HVR: Hauppage Win TV-HVR-2250
Blu-ray drive: Plextor PX-B940SA
OS: Windows7 Pro

I also intend to get a video isolation amplifier splitter to prevent signal loss from the antenna being split too many times.

I can not use the supplied power cable for the system drive because it is too close to the bottom of the case so I need to get a SATA power adapter.

What else is this doing besides htpc duties? If nothing its a big waste of money to get the i7 and 16 gigs of ram. Unless your doing some serious photo editing or 3d rendering your never come close to using that ram, let alone 8 gigs.

Sweet system though.

I have that case, I like it a lot. Beware its very deep. It sticks out of my tv stand. Especially once I plug the coax cables into the back of it.

Well, having that extra power/ram will help if you are using ffdshow and doing image quality improvements on SD video (upscaling, denoise, proper de-interlacing, etc.).

Agreed. I have this case as well (love it) but really underestimated how large it is. That's both a good and bad thing as it really is one of the better cases out there as far as cooling is concerned.

Wondering if an AMD Athlon ll X4 640 3.0 GHZ 64 bit quad-core with a Blu-ray drive & GT430 graphics card would be good enough to do 3d to my Acer 5360 projector.............don't do alot of gaming so thats not really a concern Basically for 3d movies.............Any help would be appreciated.....

Buy an Nmedia case instead of that Antec.

All 4 Nmedia cases are a better buy: 2000b, 6000b, 5000b or the 1080p depending on the dimensions of your TV cabinet. The value per $ is much better than the NSK2480. The Nmedias look better, have more hard drive bays, support larger motherboards, have better cooling and have more front connectors... 11 type card reader, 3 usb, firewire, esata, and you can put the Nmedia LCD in if you want it to look fancy. Crazy what you get for $80.

Edit: I have built 4 HTPCs with Nmedia cases, they are a pleasure to work with and have sound deadening drive bays. The only cases I've ever liked more are Fractal Design but they don't build htpc boxes.

Yah but with the antec you get an excellent power supply. Plus the cooling is very good. Size can be an issue though.

I got mine for 99 bucks so I was very happy.

Go with the Intel Core i7-2600K the preformance is over-the edge. I have it combine with a SATA 2 SSD and could not be more pleased. A note though the SATA 3 SSD's will be out in a week or so with the Sandforce SF-2281 controller, with reads of 550 MB/s and writes of 525 MB/s at the same price as the current SSD's.
