I'm not Ash but unless he's got a cage under that ragtop he isn't racing. Most likely a Time Trials Event, which is just as much fun and you can run in street trim.

Jeff if your not in a club you ought to think about it. We schedule track time at Waterford Hills, not too far from your house.

I don't belong to the ultra high end HT crowd, but I'm digging this thread and I'm a big car guy. FWIW, here's my BMW 550i w/ M-package (and the wife's Audi Allroad in the background). Nice toys everyone!

Jeff,
B Curry is correct - this is a picture from Performance Driving School in Texas World Speedway at College Station Texas.
Joining PCA is the way to go as it opens up many new avenues to enjoy your car.

OK, so since my Hyundai Sonata is not going to make the cut here, I had to dig deep into the archives of my great pre-marital passion - adventurous travel.

Picture's one is shot in the stunningly beatiful Soussousvlei sand dunes in Namibia (which I toured in four wheel drive sleeping in rooftoop tent).

Picture 2 is me in Egypt (many moons ago) climbing some mountains in the valley of the Kings.

Picture 3 is taking from a military plane that dropped me off in the amazon for a trip down the river.

Picture 4 is my travel companion and Touarec guide on a trip on camel back in the saharah desert.

In picture 5 I got caught in a student demonstration dispersed by teargas in Cochabamba Bolivia.

I have many, many more - I took my first serious job in my 30s....

Current vacationing habits consists of taking the kids to Disney...

Note: all pictures are taking with low tech cameras with the exception of Namibia, which was shot with a half decent Nikon.

Yup. Heading to Laguna again in a couple of weeks. The car has a Borla exhaust, Porsche Motorsport throttle body/plenum, Softronic engine software, and a B&M SSK. I also added a Dension iPod adapter, but didn't opt for the Bose stereo "upgrade." The exhaust is freakin' loud, too.

Wow... Thanks guys!

I'll check out the links. So, the Rally Sport Region is the michigan region only? Waterford is only 25 minutes from me. I'll join up. Thanks for the links! Time trials are plenty fine, just a way to get the car out and stretch its legs...

Very cool!

Awesome. How do you like your softronic upgrade. They offer one for my car now. Is changing the exhaust necessary to get the full benefits? I know you'll get louder.

I cannot echo that sentiment loudly enough.

Some cars absolutely MUST be left entirely intact. They are not upgraded by mods, they are violated.

Very cool!

Porsche Club of America, PCA, is divided into zones. Inside the zones are regions. We are in Zone 4. Southeast Michigan has enough owners to support two regions; the Southeast Michigan Region and the Rally Sport Region. The Southeast Michigan Region (SEM) is the older club, charter 1958. I'm in the upstart Rally Sport Region (RSP), charter 1996. When I joined, RSP was more active in performance/track driving thus my choice. I don't know the balance now as my work takes most of my time the last years and I'm not able to participate as much as I would like. I used to be involved with the Meadowbrook Concours event as well.

The basic requirement for membership is that you must own a Porsche; proof is your registered vin number. My wife wanted to join so we bought two cars. Just kidding, membership allows for family or associate membership as well. But I do own two Porsche's.

Here is a link for Zone 4: http://zone4.pca.org/default_files/RegionInfo.htm

Click on the logo for each region for information for that region.

Put me in line with these guys. With no disrespect, as it sits, you have more car than you know what to do with. And the only safe way to find your as well as the cars limits are to take it to a track. After you've taken some driving classes, get one of the instructors to drive your car while you sit in the passenger seat and take a few laps. I think you'll find during this experience that your car has additional performance that you have not found yet.

Practice up, save your money, and take a trip to run some hot laps at the Nürburgring.

If you follow this plan you will have Jeep tracks in your underwear; carry spares.

Totally agree. And thanks for the advice guys (Ash, CM). I thought of the upgrades after I get to know the car and put miles on it, track it and see where' I'm at. I may never doing anything but since this new to me, I am learning about the myriad the options for increased performance.

And yes, I am certain I have more car than I can handle at this point! Sorta like overkill components in the HT!

Thanks!

Let's up the ante a bit here. Who can produce a million dollar plus yacht or power boat, with credible proof of ownership?

How about a vacation property?

More interestingly still. Move into the realm of intanglibles; bedded supermodels (just one would be elevate your prestige on this forum dramatically).

I like it, but I think its effect is subtle. For my car, it was necessary to get the most out of the exhaust, but in a forced induction car like yours, his software probably does very different things and will have more effect in an unmodified car. Actually, the best thing about the exhaust is its sound.

Certainly, even with the humble Cayman, there is more car than driver there. I also agree with the other guys to leave your car alone until you've had a few track schools under your belt. At that point, you'll know better what to change in your car, if anything.

Put another way, if Michael Schumacher were driving your car, would he be able to drive it faster than you? If so, leave it alone!

Speaking of which, here's a fun video of Mark Webber flogging a GT2RS around the Porsche track in England:

Yes. There are no limitations... Just a thread to show the guys here the other fun things / hobbies / stuff in your lives. The group here isn't all that large, so why not get to know a bit more about each other?

I know when I go to CEDIA and the likes, we meet up and have a great time chatting and learning about each other... Sometimes we even end up at the strip club!!! There are a few here who remember that evening!!

Andre, I'm on the side of the fence that believes the Cayman is only humble because Zuffenhousen is keeping it that way. I don't think they will try to kill the goose that laid the golden egg again as they did with the 928. The Cayman is a seriously capable platform limited by available engines from my view.
