Ah I remember that room. I took delivery of my 360 Modena there in 2002. A long time ago now but I still remember the great profiteroles and champagne, and the sound of the F1 cars testing across the road as I drove out the factory gate!

Not a long time in years but "decades" between a 360 and 458. An amazing amount of R&D in 10 years.

Completely agree. But I'd rather have owned a 360 than never have owned a Ferrari at all. And VIP collection from the factory is priceless.

PS: I've never understood why anyone in the US would own one though given your ridiculously low speed limits, fanatical police officers and penchant for driving slowly in the fast lane. tongue.gif Best stick to pickup trucks...

I agree about having owned but your comment made me think about how far the V8s have come over 10 years; from a small car company at a relatively "affordable" price. IMHO, there is more to driving a Ferrari than just top speed. I have put 99,000 miles on my 575M and it is still a thrill to get in and drive 3,000 more miles. ;>)

Your speed limits are simply archaic. Set in the 70s during the oil crisis and never modernised to reflect safer and more efficient cars (albeit the average, American-built car is not something I'd want to be seen dead in). I was in DC a few weeks back and we travelled on a brand spanking new toll road (I don't recall the name but those in the area will know). No one on it. Speed limit of 50 mph and cops/cameras everywhere. What's the point? That's simply uneconomic. I'll bet those cops didn't even earn a return (soft and hard $) on capital employed. Here in the UK they're boosting the speed limit on the open road to 80 mph because of the potential efficiency benefit to the economy. That merely brings it into line with mainland Europe. "Typical" traffic flow on a motorway would be just shy of 100mph. I agree it's not about top speed - my current car is limited at 145mph but 125mph on a motorway is fast enough for me. It's about cornering, working through the gears and feeling and hearing it all. I drove PCH once. So much potential yet so boring with everyone banked up doing 40mph. If I move to the States my car will be a Ford F150 - now that you guys do well!

Agreed. Sometimes the speed limits are a problem. A couple times a week I travel to my one office that requires me to take a highway. So, I can get a bit of a fix when, on certain stretches, I can get up to 120 - 130 MPH. But that is fraught with the possibility of a major ticket, etc. I have a bult in radar, laser jammer which has saved my ass a number of times!

So, a few times per summer, I take it to the track. The picture was from a wet and rainy day Porsche club track day last week. 4/7 in my group lost it and left the track! But high speeds and big turns. A lot of fun and keeps my 'need for speed insanity' in check.

BTW - Thanks for the suggestion, Rabident. Much better!!!

I use a free photobucket account. Upload the picture to photobucket then there is a button at the bottom of each picture. Click it and it puts an IMG URL in your paste buffer. Then you just paste it into the AVS reply text box where you want the picture to show up. Everyone else sees the image, not the URL itself.

Jeff

you will also need a License Plate Reader cover:

I saw an LPR demonstration (our police force is buying one) and they are quite effective: said to pay for themselves in 6 months in my quiet town: much quicker in larger nearby towns (cost is $25k installed on a police car)

Hey Mark. THey are not using cameras in Michigan yet but I'll remember they make such a cover! Great suggestion and thanks!

Rabident, see above. Thanks for the suggestion on Photo-bucket!

Of course, check local and state laws...because in Illinois, anything that covers an Illinois license plate is illegal.

Brief story for some added context;

My wife and I recently had dinner with a colleague of hers and the colleague's spouse. Well, her spouse was a police officer and we had a wonderful evening of fine food (St. Elmo's cool.gif ) and great conversation. He shared with us a couple of very entertaining stories I'd love to share with everyone. However most importantly, he shared his personal and professional beliefs about speed limits, speeding tickets etc. He stated his administration places a much more heavily weighted emphasis on ticketing reckless behavior, and not necessarily merely speeding. He said he just shakes his head at idiotic, reckless maneuvers that draw attention to oneself. He's a car guy, with a heavily modded late model Mustang sleeper, w/nitrous, racing brakes, stating he's got about $50k in mods to an otherwise stout domestic machine.

Anyway, he too feels there's typically an un-due emphasis on speeding, yet he really likes the manner in which his department handles the issue. He prefers to issue warnings, and said to get a speeding ticket from him, one really deserves it.

^^^

same here too... although many nearby towns have different philosophy

the LPR does not track speed: it only reads issues on the vehicle plate (and not the driver)

still it is a valuable tool
