Totally agree. One of the best handling cars you can buy. With 100 extra HP would be trouble for big brother.

Talking about more car than driver, she already was straight off, I get her back from Switzer Performance soon after they have installed their P800 PKG Package giving her @800BHP.

On Previous cars they have achieved:

1/4 mile: 10.2 sec. @ 139 mph
0-60 mph: 2.8 sec

I don't have the 'Big Dog' $ but I am an avid car buff and truly enjoy car related threads so here is my current contribution (even though it pales in comparison to the amazing cars posted thus far) .

Jeff, what were you thinking...although I know that the automatic is faster how could you possibly get that car in automatic...a car like that needs to have a standard transmission...

And, while on the subject of Porsches, I am looking for a 1997 Porsche 911 993 C4S widebody in standard that is in pristine condition...anyone who has one for sale or who has a lead please let me know...

Hey Joel..

1. My '06 Carrera 4S was a manual. And i will miss it.

2. But you nailed it, i wanted a faster car and the Turbo S only comes with the PDK - no option for manual. The explosive speed of this car is intoxicating (my 4S hit 60 MPH at 4.6 seconds...the Turbo S has been clocked at 2.6 secs. It's like trading in a sub that goes down to 18 hz for one that goes to 10 hz . In fact, manuals are a small percentage of sales compared fo PDK now. That said, i hear you. I drove my 4S one last time before the new owner picked it up and I will miss it. What a car! The new owner loved it. The '06 (to present) 997 4S is one of the best cars Porsche has ever made (in my opinion). Try one before you go back to the 993. Performance wise, there is no comparison but I will say the 993 has gorgeous lines and a raw feel to it. I swapped my 4S for a while with my buddy who has a '97 4S. Much fun and nostalgia but I missed my own car's power and handling.

That said, either way you can't go wrong.

Actually, the best thing about the exhaust is its sound.

Certainly, even with the humble Cayman, there is more car than driver there. I also agree with the other guys to leave your car alone until you've had a few track schools under your belt. At that point, you'll know better what to change in your car, if anything.

Put another way, if Michael Schumacher were driving your car, would he be able to drive it faster than you? If so, leave it alone!

Speaking of which, here's a fun video of Mark Webber flogging a GT2RS around the Porsche track in England:

That is a great looking, stealthy fast car! Congrats... that is a big upgrade~ I'll bet you cannot wait.

You nailed it...it is the lines and the rawness of it that is attracting me to the 911 993 body...and, if anyone has one I am a buyer...

I see you're from Toronto. Check Autotrader.com They have 44, 1987's listed for sale in the US. You'll have to sort through 'em for your flavor.

These guys are in Orange County about 20 minutes away from me. They are Porsche fanatics and supply a very high standard of car to discriminating people. Give them a call- they sold a 959 a few years ago and have made their name selling 993s.

Other interests... How about hot wives that married us when we were broke students? That's all I have right now... But it's bitchin!

Traded my 993 Turbo for a 997 normally aspirated, not AWD. I thought the 997 was more fun to drive and no turbo lag. I understand the new turbo is really nice.
I then bought a second house 500 miles away, and the 9 hour drives in the P car where too hard on the back and ears. I didn't have the room for yet another vehicle so I traded it in on a S550, which is a much better touring car.
Yet, I really miss the sports car. I was thinking a Turbo S Cab, but that price point brings you close to many fine cars including Lambo and Ferrari.
The down side to a true exotic is that it's hard to be inconspicuous. Still pondering.

If I didn't really want 4 seats (kids), I think I would've gone for the GT3RS or Audi R8 V10. I'd love a Ferrari but it is not conspicuous (but sooo gorgeous) and the maintenance can be very expensive compared to a Porsche. I think of all the exotics, the Porsche is the least conspicuous... but all the least pricey).

How about a Panamera Turbo?? I drove one and there is nothing not to love about it. It really is the full package that compares nicely to the Bentley coupe.

I decided to move the tractor and pick-up truck to the mountain house where I have 30+ acres. It opens up a garage bay and a parking space in the drive. I'll keep the S550 for touring and comfort. We have a minivan for the dogs.
I then have room to garage a sports car here. The unbelievable thing is that I have 5 bays in this house, but my wood shop take up a whole garage, only leaving three bays.

If you have enough ceiling height you can add lifts and double your garage space.

It won't work here, but it's definitively something to look at when I upgrade the outbuilding in the mountain house.

+1. Looks like the ideal place to buy such a car! Joel, looks like your journey to a 993 has ended! Love that ruby 4S!

I hope so though it may not be that simple...I need to check as to what is involved in changing miles to kilometres because otherwise the car will not be street legal in Canada...

I will let everyone know later in the week...I also like the black 4S a little more but will have to go and drive a few of them...the turbo would also be killer but the Porsche phone looks stupid...who knows, perhaps I will just bite the bullet and buy a 2012 turbo S this coming summer

If driving them is what youre going to do, thn you'll buy the Turbo S. So, if you really want a 993, don't drive it until after you buy it!

Yeah I know how that goes. I just moved to a place with an oversized 3-car garage but after dealing with storage, tools, etc I barely have room left for even that little car. My "practical" car still has to stay outside.

Here's a change of pace. Photos of my new Ride before we mounted the bindings. They are a custom pair of Ski Logic Skis, "The Double Eagle," 196 cm long, with tip 160 mm, waist 104 mm, tail 139 mm. They are real big with a modified rocker so they float, but they also have a radical sidecut with a 15 meter turn radius. This is the closest thing to a one ski quiver available. We just did over 175,000 vertical feet in Colorado last week on these Birds. The art work is all laminated wood veneer with Abalone Mother of Pearl for the Eagle's Eyes and the Sun, and they are the only pair with this design in the world.
We didn't do the Nurburgring, Monte Carlo, or Indy on them, but we ran such famous circuits as Reva Ridge @ Vail, The Big Burn @ Snowmass, Double Diamond @ Beaver Creek, Formidable @ Copper Mountain, and Imperial Bowl @ Breckenridge. Stable with a wicked edge hold is an understatement. Norm

Very cool. Wow! I can only imagine how they feel. I imagine big wide turns and speed!
Have skied many of those areas myself!

No kidding. Norm, do you mind if I ask how tall you are, those are some pretty long skis for sidecuts. Now, in the good old days those would have been tiny . My old 215's were long and stiff...yes, we are still talking skis

At over 1,300 bottles, I'd say the wine takes as much time as the Home Theater these days. This particular cubbyhole is good for about 700 bottles when full and is 55 degrees +/- .5 at 72%

Raul, I'm 6' 2". They're like skiing DH Boards, but turn on a dime. A real combo. I was in the ski industry a while ago, and got things for free, but this is probably the best ski I've ever ridden. Totally versitile, and more stable than anything I've tried. Norm

My other hobby, too. My cellar is only about 900 or 1000 bottles - more like a closet rather than a legit wine cellar, but temp and humidity controlled as well. Built it from scratch with my buddy over a few weekends.

I just bought a couple of '07 Faust to try... Promising cab for 07 and modestly priced at $39.

Wine could be a totally new thread in and of itself!
