I don't think this is possible. Even if you were to use a DLNA server that supported random playlists, it would probably need to interact with the BD670 as a DLNA renderer to function that way and based on a previous report here, the BD670 doesn't seen to operate in that way.

If you want randomized mp3 playlists, the best way to do that would be to use a device designed primarily for music playback. The BD670 is not a good music player, it is primarily intended as a video player. Consider the ability to play mp3s a bonus feature for infrequent use.

Even if you wanted to play back all the tracks from an album in sequence or with other files as they appear in a folder in alphanumeric order, it won't play the audio seamlessly from digital media files. There will be gaps between tracks and the player often drops out audio from the very beginning of each track. This is not an issue when playing back from a CD or DVD, but it seems to happen consistently with network playback. (I'm not sure what happens with playback from a USB drive.)

great player, but subtitles are awful...

I mean no costumization at all...
i hate withe subs, cause on bright images are quite unreadable.
Is there any mod or program that let's you modify the tables of charset? as it was for lg dvx player?

I just need to have a 2px black border for subtitle characters... and if it is possible a little bigger font... (but the most important is the black border)

No one as a clue?

Do any of these players have region free ability?

Interested in the BD630 in particular... They are available on ebay but 2x-3x the costs of the standard version....

Thanks!

I bought the BD-670 to replace an Insignia which only offered Netflix, Pandora, and Cinema Now, since I also wanted Amazon and Hulu Plus, as well as DLNA.

DLNA, I must say, works spectacularly well, although I did have to convert all my videos (at least camcorder and home videos) to mp4. Netflix and Amazon are OK.

However, I can't get anything going on Hulu Plus. I'll select a show and an episode, and then the "play" symbol appears in the middle of the episode image and hangs there for a long time. Eventually I hear the "limited commercial interruption" audio blurb, and the loading circle appears. And stays there, no matter how long I wait.

This happens no matter what show or episode I choose. Hulu Plus works fine on my upstairs Roku, and as I mentioned Netflix works OK on the 670 (though it does start 2 seconds into a movie/show, as someone mentioned earlier).

Any ideas? I have the most recent software update. I've rebooted the unit several times and that makes no difference.

New to the forums. Hello! I've browsed for years but never registered because my problems have always already been solved by someone else.

I just picked up the LG 55LW5300 bundle (Sweet deal at $1197) that came with the barebones (no wifi) BD-645 3D Blu-Ray player about 2 weeks ago and everything worked well out of the box with my Pioneer 931 receiver. Up until two days ago...

I picked up The Polar Express 3D Blu-Ray to watch with the kids. I put it in and watched a couple of minutes of it with my wife. No problem. It has the exact features our HD-DVD (RIP) version had so my wife begged me to play the "Josh Groban Live at the Greek Theater" of that song "Believe" which is in 2D (I believe, ) The screen went black but you could hear audio. The audio would cut out every couple of seconds for a couple of seconds and after about a minute I turned it off and it went back to the Main Menu in 3D. Didn't watch any Blu-Rays for 2 days.

Yesterday I picked up Kung-Fu Panda 2 in 3D and watched a couple of minutes of it before my kids got home (holy cow! Amazing btw!). They finished their homework and asked to watch Cars2 on Blu-Ray. I put it in and again no picture just audio. Powering the machine on/off you get the LG splash screen but then it goes to the "no signal" cube screensaver and the machine just locks up with a Blu-Ray in it and now all 3 of the 3D movies I have make it lock up (Tron Legacy, KFP2 and Polar Express). I put in a regular DVD of Raiders of the Lost Ark and I got the off/on audio that I got with Josh Groban.

Did Josh Groban kill my system? I digress.

I then tried hooking the player up bypassing the receiver to see if it was a receiver setting. Same thing. Nothing.

I hooked up my Vizio Blu-Ray player through the receiver and it played Cars 2 perfectly.

I hooked up the LG BD-645 to my old Sony SXRD directly and it played Cars 2 perfectly. While I had it on and working, I upgraded the firmware with USB and returned it to factory settings.

I hooked it all back up and reset my tv to factory and (drumroll)... Same thing. Locks up as soon as you put a 3D Blu-ray or Blu-Ray in (Says "16:02" whatever that means? Error code?). Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD plays but no picture and the sound goes on/off intermittently. Again, everything worked fine until I went from 3D to 2D material on a 3D disc. Cannot figure out what in the H.E. Double Hockey sticks happened.

I looked hi/low for a similar thread and found nothing. If any of you have the fix or an idea of what's going on you would be my best AVS friend! Thank you! ---Chris

P.S. Xbox 360 also plays perfectly through the same HDMI 3 connection. Forgot to mention that. I'm going to post this in the forum that has the TV bundle too.

Hello everyone, I thought I would post on the thread here as my wife "thinks" it would be a better deal to get the LG BD670 to replace the BD390 we have already... pretty much only for the reason of Pandora I do believe??

We have the BD390 and it works quite well without issue, so its not like its a dire need to get a new player. I just think she wants the Pandora is all since the 390 does not get it. Right now Best Buy has the BD670 on sale for $110 so its not like a huge investment by no means so maybe its worth it?? We have a PS3 as I use it to do Pandora ( works ok ) by the "wife" has a hard time running the unit... go figure huh? lol

So what I am asking is ..." is there enough meausure to "upgrade" as to where its really worth it or not"? We watch more std DVD than Blu ray so the question is as well... is the upconvert as good as the 390, or better"? I dont use analog so the HDMI is the way I connect anyhow.

In my mind I dont believe there is enough to "upgrade" from the 390 we have unless you can inform me its worth it.

Sorry for the post, its just that I thought I would get a bit of info on the unit before making the deceision is all.

Thanks, Jeff

P.S. Xbox 360 also plays perfectly through the same HDMI 3 connection. Forgot to mention that. I'm going to post this in the forum that has the TV bundle too.

This is the first I have heard of this player model. From some quick searching online, it appears to only be available in the 3D TV bundle you have. From looking through the manual, it seems to be similar to the BD650 minus the streaming apps and component video output. However, an article I read online suggested that your player has a 2D to 3D conversion feature, which hasn't been offered in any of the other BD6xx players to my knowledge.

This player does not seem to share its software updates with the other US BD6xx players either (though the download site references the BD650 and BD660 model numbers, the version numbering and file name are different than those offered for the US BD650/BD670 and BD690 players). Anyway, checking in the thread for your TV bundle is a good idea as there could very well be issues unique to this player that users of the other players in this thread will not see.

As for your problem, a few general suggestions:

1. Shut down the player completely, unplug and leave unplugged for several minutes then restart and see if the problem persists. (The players do not normally shut all the way down when powered off; this operation of unplugging the player is equivalent to rebooting a PC.)

2. Check for software updates on your TV. It sounds like the issue could be on that side.

3. Try swapping out your HDMI cables. Even if the cable(s) work on your XBOX, there might be something going on there so you'll want to try to remove that variable.

4. Try disabling HDMI-CEC (I think LG calls it SIMPLINK) via your TV

I would try these things first with the receiver not connected and then reconnect it if you can get everything working with just the TV and the BD player. Next step is probably to call LG support.

Good luck!

I've never used the BD390, but I think the upgrades you'll get are as follows:

- 3D support
- More Streaming app options (Amazon and Hulu and others in addition to Pandora)
- DLNA support is probably slightly more reliable (I have a BD570 and a BD670 and the BD670 plays some files that the BD570 chokes on.)

I think the upscaling on the BD670 is okay, but nothing special. If you want better image quality, I'd invest the $110 in Blu-ray media to replace some of your DVDs instead of getting a new device!

Back to your question, since you seem happy with the BD390, if all you need is Pandora, there are other solutions that you could go with. I would look at Roku. These players have Pandora and more streaming channels than just about anything else on the market and you could save some money going that route as well.

Just downloaded and installed player update BD.8.62.376.E dated 2011-12-14 (available now at the US LG.com).

Before even trying to play a disc, I tried to launch the Amazon VOD app and the player powered down. I cold booted the player and tried several times but each time I attempted to launch Amazon the player shut down.

I had a copy of the BD.8.62.369.E installer, so I rolled back to that version and Amazon is now working fine on my player. I would strongly recommend that all Amazon users avoid the .376 update for the time being. (Hopefully this can be addressed via a Premium Apps update, though we'll have to wait and see.)

Hello Vamp, thank you for the reply!! Yeah, I was thinking about going a differnt route as well such as the Roku and such but then again I may run into the same situation as I have now to where the "wife" may not be able to figure it out. As mentioned, I do have the PS3 so I can get the Pandora she wants but she has a hard time with it . ( not to mention I do think it comes through as good as if it were a dedicated app., meaning it does not sound the best or at least to me that is.)

As far as upscaling goes, to honest I dont believe I could even tell a differance, even if I were to have the "famous" Oppo ( sorry to say this... "overpriced"). I do have some good equipment, not the best by no means but mid level per say. I have an Oknyo 808 av & LG 60" plasma .

Not that I noticed for the short time I had it installed. Streaming app selection seemed to be the same, though Napster was recently removed due to their acquisition by Rhapsody. As usual, no release notes included with the download either.

What's the verdict on the BD640?
So I'm about to make the leap and buy my first BD player. Is the 670 a good choice? Seem to be a lot of problems here with firmware updates and all.

Most all BD players have firmware problems, so don't get too alarmed about that feedback. I think that the BD670 is a good Blu-ray player overall.

How do you intend to use the player? Just Blu-ray and DVD discs? Do you have PAL discs in your collection? Do you use any online streaming services(Netflix, etc,)? DLNA?

I think the best choice for a BD player comes down to which features you will use most.

Just a quick note about the new BD.8.62.376.E update. After reading your post I decided to use the online update service instead of downloading from LG and updating with a flash drive or CD. After the BD-690 update was finished I had no issues at all with Amazon VOD.

Hello all. First time poster. Just picked up a BD670 this past weekend and so far it is working great. I was looking for a player that could stream mkv's and this player so far is doing it quite well from my home computer. There are only a couple of issues I have run across, and maybe folks could help me out.

1) When I play an mkv that was encoded at 1280x688 (1.85:1) it stretches the image to 1280x720. 1280x544 (2.35:1) and 1280x528 (2.40:1) mkv's playback at the proper aspect ratio. Not sure why it has problems with these.

2) I'm not seeing my music files. I can see the folders and subfolders but once I finally get into the final directory (i.e. Music\\Metallica\\Ride the Lightning\\) it just says "empty." All of my mp3 files are CBR 320 kbps.

Any help would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

I just bought two BD670s, but I won't open them until Christmas and could opt for the BDP-S580 or DMP-BDT210 instead. I'm buying two because one is for my primary residence and the 2nd for a vacation home. At the primary, I'm looking for streaming of Netflix and possibly setting up DLNA, as well as playing blu-rays and DVDs. Basically the same for the vacation home except I already have a Roku. There is no TV service there. It needs to be easy to use for my wife. Also, I have Panasonic Viera plasmas at both houses. Would this make the Panny any more preferable? My overall impression is that the BD670 & S580 offer fairly similar features, while the 210 may be the best blu-ray player, but lacks in streaming capabilities, which are important to me. I definitely want both players to be from the same mfgso that there are not 2 learning curves.

One thing about these forums is that there's just TMI for the average user. It would be nice to have a nice summary comparing model features or general info without having to read 12,620 posts (Start here) or 5-6000 for each manufacturer's line. Even the comparison matrix at LG sucks, as some of the models have info on some features, while it is left blank on others. It would be nice to have quick comparison of what differs for the BD630/650/670/690; I'm sure it's buried somewhere in these 6000+ posts

Thanks for the suggestions and I tried all of them with no luck. I think the DVD firmware update is what caused all of this. I currently have a 3D Blu-Ray player (only). It will not play any other media other than 3D Blu-Ray. I watched Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D with the kids tonight and the first minute of it froze quite a bit but the entire movie after that was flawless. I put in the regular DVD of Fight Club in after they went to bed and all I got was audio. I'm just thinking about getting a better player tomorrow and enable a friend by giving him this p.o.s. who wants to upgrade to Blu-Ray. Hmmm. Out of new ideas. Call LG support is what my wife suggested, but will they have any info that's going to help me? Really?

I think the BD670 plays disc very well and I love that it plays PAL discs (region free). I was disappointed that Amazon VOD does not support 5.1 surround. The same was previously true of Netflix, though I have heard LG was supposed to be updating the Netflix app. Any Netflix users getting 5.1 with the recent updates? I think Panasonic has a 5.1 Netflix app.

I think the BD670 file format support is good, not sure how other brands compare today in that respect. The DLNA works most of the time, but can be flaky. If that was important to me, I might look at competing models known to have reliable DLNA, but for the most part it does what I need.

It sounds like you could have a hardware failure, so, yes they can help you by replacing it if it's under warranty.

Thanks for pointing that out. I just updated directly through the player and Amazon is working for me now as well. There may have been an issue with the download version. I noticed that the player referred to BD.8.62.376.F during the installation, but it listed .E instead of .F once installed.

I purchased a BDT210 recently and problems with DLNA streaming. You can read some of my issues in the Panny section. I couldn't get the Panny to stream any of my mp4 or mov files via DLNA. Also, it wouldn't play my home-made DVDs that I created from our family videos. I have about 400 total videos stored on an Iomega NAS. I would see the files just not play them. I ended up returning the BDT210 after 5 days.

I bought a BD670 from Amazon. It plays all the files on my NAS, except mov, but I don't have too many of those. It also plays my home-made DVDs without a problem.

Of the two, the Panny has the better UI for online access and BD playback. The BD/DVD picture quality was fantastic, so I can't fault it for that.

Overall, the LG did a better job at things that were important to me so I stuck with it.

Thanks Vampidemic & fbara. It sounds like my decision to buy the BD670 is sound, and it should meet my needs. Im sure each player has it's pros and cons. We won't be hard-core users, and I expect that our experience will be whatever the BD670 provides. I don't have expectations at this point.

I have the BD670 updated with firmware BD.8.62.376.E. I'm a huge NHL fan (Go Sharks!) and bought this player mainly for streaming the games live with my NHL GameCenter Live account. I have the player successfully linked to my account but am running into a strange issue. EVERY single live game comes back with the error "NHL Blackout Rules....yada yada) and won't stream the games live. Every game. These games are not blacked out because I can successfully stream them live to my PC, my Roku and my Android phone. Every device I have works great but the LG refuses too and thinks everything is blacked out.

I made sure that the country code was set to USA and everything else on NHL GameCenter Live works, just the live games themselves are being blocked. It almost seems like the player thinks I'm in a different country or something.

Anyone else with this issue? Any ideas? Thanks.

wth... lg is st*pid or what?
i recently discovered that my lg bd660 (bought in italy) is different from bd660 in other countries...
i don't have smartTv but only netcast application.

my firmware is different from the others, bd670 in italy is equal to bd670 of other countries, instead bd650 and bd660 are different...
lg this is not fair !!!
same price but lower hardware/firmware...
i'll try to load real bd660 firmware in mine to see if this is only a firmware change, but i really doubt it...

Firmware version BD6.030.00.C instead of BD.8.62.376.E
Is there anyone with my bd660 (itlay but i guess it is like an european version...) that has already tryed to put bd8.62 in bd660 european player?

i don't have smartTv but only netcast application.

my firmware is different from the others, bd670 in italy is equal to bd670 of other countries, instead bd650 and bd660 are different...
lg this is not fair !!!
same price but lower hardware/firmware...
i'll try to load real bd660 firmware in mine to see if this is only a firmware change, but i really doubt it...

Firmware version BD6.030.00.C instead of BD.8.62.376.E
Is there anyone with my bd660 (itlay but i guess it is like an european version...) that has already tryed to put bd8.62 in bd660 european player?

Different countries have different restrictions. This is not a new thing.
