With the upgrade to firmware version 8.97.422.E on both my LG BD670 players, when playing Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 on blu-ray, the player shuts itself off once the main menu loads after the opening menu animation. A similar issue occurred with firmware version 8.97.413.E, but it was not a consistent issue like with 8.97.422.E.

With the older firmware, from time to time the player would become completely unresponsive while navigating the main menu on the Star Trek TNG blu-ray title and would require me to pull the power cord.

I was just wondering if anyone has the same issue(s)? I am not able to create it with any other titles, and have no problems on my older Sony player I dug out.

I have a different problem with bd670. I was watching movie from USB - Corsair Voyager GT ubs 2.0
Movie details:
Video codec .................: XviD MPEG-4
Bitrate .....................: 3 410 Kbps
Resolution ..................: 1280 x 720 (1.778)
Frame rate ..................: 23.976 fps
Audio .......................: AC-3 | 448 Kbps | 5.1
Time ........................: 2h 44mn 32s
Size ........................: 4.44 GiB

and in the middle of the movie it starts shutter/slowing down - that's not the only one whit which i have problems - it looks like it is overheating after a while?. It has enough space from all sides and top.
What could cause that? Hi bitratte or video codec?
I also can't get it to work with PS3 media server and subtitles but that is a different topic.

Latest FW and same before.

try lowering the bitrate
Could that be a problem? This model isnt form 2008 and it shouldn't have any problems with high bitrate(actually not really high) or am i wrong? What about mkv movies in 1080 with 10.4 Mbps from IMAX - it will have problems with them as well?
I think more likely it is a problem of the codec - xvid because high bitrate mkv will play fine.
And why does it happen after an hour or more - it shouldn't be make any difference?
Keep in mind that the player is decoding the file. It can cause stuttering due to the fact the the player doesnt have a very powerful decoder to begin with. Try lowering the bit rate and see what happens.

Just got the BD660, its working great !!

except for 2 things that have been discussed in this thread before :

-No Flac support
-Faulty MP4 playback

Have these 2 issues been fixed and is the current firmware working fine ?

Thanks !

I can't even update to 8.97.422.E. My HX906TIN are taking forever to update and when it's finished, it'll reboot and it'll recover the last update. LOL!
I'm not very into software on recievers, but this isn't normal...
Can anyone help? I'm an updating freak. I hate being one step behind others. x)

Either wait a day or two, try loading the firmware onto the USB via LG's website and updating that day, or update via Ethernet cable - instead of WiFi.

One of those is bound to work.
I had to use usb to update - no joy with ethernet - all the time it was failed.
OK the nightmare has started, after the firmware update on the bd660 through network, the player is now stuck at the LG loading screen in a never ending loop..
Its a european bd660...
Any Ideas on how to fix this ?
This kind of **** makes me want to go back to VHS tapes and rotary dial telephones on a remote Island..
I had the same problem, what I did was disconnect the ethernet cable and then hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. The player made some noises after which i held the power button down again. Not sure what I did but it suddenly started working again. I hope this helps anyone with this problem, I know how frustrating this can be.

HI,

Having some trouble with DTS mkv files. I have the Lg bd 660 coupled with an LG 3d tv and recent purchased the LG 3502a soundbar.

I have set the soundbar up as below

Sat box audio hdmi passthrough tv to soundbar
bd660 digital audio out to soundbar

Now th tv will passthough dolby surround sound fine from the blu ray player and the sat box. Which is great, it wont however passthrough dts, somewhat of a grumble amonst lg tv owners. It really should be enabled by lg without hacks.

Now when using dlna with the the blu ray player, It stutters playing mkv dts. Its fine with ac3 tracks. So I assume it is somehat of a problem with dlna and the bd660. I then have to use popcornhour audio converter and change the audio to dolby.

The question is, is the issue with dts and the bd660 common and apart from changing the audio to dolby is there any other workarounds? maybe new firmware in the futer from lg smile.gif

Has anyone had freezing issues during the sound of music? I do wonder if a lot of freezing is because the 670 has a tendency to overheat easily

What playback medium are you talking about? Blu-ray disc, DVD, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Blockbuster, etc...? I have an old DVD of the movie and it plays fine on my 670.

Hi sorry it's the 3 disc edition bluray and dvd but playback freezes towards the end of chapters 28 and 29. We did notice when watching an mkv of family guy that the player crashed twice on the same file but there's a chance that could've been an encoding issue.
Very tempted to use the Bd670 as a player for the spare room but unsure of a good replacement atm.

In reply to Ron Alum & Lord of the Manor. Had the same problem and sent it in for repair. Luckily it was under warranty and they fixed it for free. On a different note I discovered it would not play all .wmv files so I just spent a huge amount of time converting them to Mp4. It likes the 720s fine, but not the 1920x1080plus a few other sizes.. Also what good is this new update?
Well I got mine as a open box demo and paid: $90. So there! wink.gif

All kidding aside... I posed the same question as you and STILL got no response. So I left well enough alone and have NOT updated her once.

I have a problem my BD660 - it does not play any burned DVDs. When inserting a disc it chews on it several seconds then spits them out with "Error" on display. It plays original Blu-ray discs and DVDs without any problems though. Strangely it even plays burned Double layer DVD+R's. I have tried discs with DVD video, music and photos, but nothing works. All my burnt discs are DVD+R's, maybe DVD-R would work, but i dont have those around.
Any idea how to resolve that? I have bought the device used, but its still in warranty. Should I RMA it?

EDIT: I was randomly trying out discs and I could find two in a row which would play. I inserted other discs which where not working again and afterwards I was trying to play the discs which previously worked, but they wouldnt work. The discs which where initially working are the same as the not working ones (basicly all my discs are Vermatim MCC-004 DVD+R's with few Taiyo Yuden discs)

.422 seems perfect (DVD chapter skip audio glitch fixed, all apps working, no Cinavia). What does this new one do?

How do I find out if it has "Cinavia"?

play a backup, if audio cuts and a warning pops up, you have it

Any Backups that are known to have it?
