Computer speakers for TV? Another solution?

Thread Starter
I have a Coby LED TV in a 12' x 12' exercise room. As expected, the built-in speakers are very poor and I cannot hear them over my treadmill. This is a small, infrequently used room that I'm trying to improve with minimal dollars spent. I really want to avoid buying a receiver, but the only audio output available on my tv is one digital coaxial.

Setup: Coby LED TV (cobyusa.com/?p=prod&prod_num_id=10505&pcat_id=2008#features-tab) connected to a AT&T Uverse Cable Box via HDMI.

Questions:
  1. I've found computer speakers with RCA inputs (logitech) that I can connect directly to my cable box, but I'm unable to control the sound with my cable box remote. logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/7321
  2. Does any type of powered speaker exist that I could plug directly into my tv digital coaxial?
  3. Do I need some type of converter in order to use RCA speakers with my tv?
  4. Is there another (cheap) solution to simply get better sound out of a tv without over-complicating a room I'm trying to keep simple?

Thanks in advance!

is there a "headphone" outlet ?

your remote will have no control over the digital output, regardless of the speakers you attach.

With a headphone jack or variable line-out audio jacks, the TV's remote
should be able to control the volume. The Coby web page mentions
neither, and I couldn't find an online manual or even a picture of the
back panel.

Lacking these, a small, possibly used, receiver is the next simplest and
cheapest option. It needs to accept either HDMI or coax digital (SPDIF) input
and have a remote control. Plus, with a receiver, it's possible to use powered
or unpowered speakers.

I forgot about that part while composing my original response. It's a good
thing I lost it.
