Here we go again with the MW2 basing. Even though BLOPS is broken nobody likes to admit it for some ungodly reason but whatever. If some computer genius is determined to do so they will find a way to hack/reverse engineer a software (a game is a software) so just because MW2 is hacked to **** is because people put that much effort into it. If you think BLOPS is not hackable then you are fooling yourself. Anyone want to get into Windows VS Linux discussion? Probably not because no matter how jacked up and unstable Windows OS is majority of the people use it.

All of you can hate MW2 and Activision but I think it's still a great game and they are going to come up with another great game in November.

Never said it wasn't. In fact, I shelved it a week after I bought that as well and play it soley for Combat Training for a few laughs with friends.

But this isn't a discussion about Treyarch's games. This is a discussion about MW3 and IW's efforts of late.

Again, I WANT MW3 to be great and I am really hoping it is. I just feel it is not going to be.

I have high hopes that will be and solely because it's a MW game with modern weapons because I was never a fan of the WW era or the BLOPS era. The guns just didn't interest me. I love CoD because it has weapons I love and especially the 1911. I own one and I can relate and I wish it was brought over to MW2.

Anyway, the guys that left Activision is out to do their own version of CoD and who know what new things that will bring but MW has always been my favorite FPS since Counter-Strike. I wasn't big into console based FPS up until CoD but I have played all of the CoD series to know what I like and don't like. I don't like BLOPS now because I find it boring. It may feel like a solid and polished game to many but to me it's anything but. I am not saying MW2 is perfect because it isn't but it is a lot more fun and I can imagine it being more polished if the legal battle didn't throw everything out of loop.

This is exactly my point. I am by no means suggesting that BLOPS is perfect or even great. I did have some fun with it on release until, as usual, it got hacked to crap.

But this right here is the basis for my belief. I think Activision and IW are too distracted from the goal, which is another great MW game, to deliver another great MW game. They called in outside help. The team working on it are probably a fractured version of the core MW team that delivered CoD4, which is widely regarded as the best in the entire series.

I mean the cons are adding up fast and the pros are fastly declining.

I know this is just my opinion and anyone here can and will disagree. But the facts are right there in front of us. I just simply cannot blindly follow the into another mediocre effort to shell out $60 and have it sit on my shelf and depreciate in value. Mainly because my wife notices when I buy a game and toss it aside.

I think I am like a lot of us on AVS. I am excited about MW3, but I really need to see what this game is about first before I buy it. Battlefield 3 is coming out the same time and could be better. Both games will be supported heavily on AVS so finding people to play with will not be a problem.

I am hoping that they change the formula somehow to make the series feel new again. I really don't want different weapons and maps with the same exact gameplay. I know it will be similar, but I hope they find a way to breath new life into MW MP.

I guess we all find out in a few weeks at E3. It will be nice to see the major FPS games unveil their secrets to the world so we can begin to get an idea of which games we are going to buy this fall.

COD has kicked Battlefield's azz every single time. The 3 people that end up buying Battlefield games (and whatever other shooter you want to name.. Homefront, Reach, Killzone, etc) these days, quickly come back to COD when realize their entire friends list is still playing COD.

Have you seen the gameplay footage from BF3 though? I tried BF: BC2 and just didn't care for the pace of the game or the in-game movement. But BF3 looks like it could be more along the lines of COD with some unbelievable graphics. I'm willing to give it a shot based on the footage I've seen so far.

I don't know where you are getting your figures from but where Battlefield is certainly not as popular as CoD may have been in the past, it has a very nice following all on it's own.

I also don't believe, judging from posts on the many game forums I have read, that CoD is going to be breaking those sales records this time around.

I hear a lot of caution from the once faithful CoD audience, such as myself.

Now, this could all change at E3. IW could stand up there and reveal the most killer game any of us has ever seen. But I doubt it. I think they will try to hook us with the ending to the story. A lot of cinematics, which let's face it, always look fantastic. But in the end, it is superficial. Smart gamers are going to ask, where is the MP demo? Where is the gameplay footage?

Remember MW2? No beta? No demo? Nothing. They set loose the hype machine and suckered us all in. It worked, like a charm. I never pre-ordered a game before MW2, but I did that time. Lesson learned.

I can see MW3 ending up like Halo Reach. Good following for a few weeks and then the dropoff starts. Halo Reach has died off greatly, and I think a lot of it has to do with how similar MP was to older Halo games. There are only so many times you can play the same game without getting bored. If this comes out and looks and plays like past COD games I will pass. EA is going after the top spot and BF3 is looking great. The competition for gamers money is high this time, and MW isn't as fresh as it once was.

It's funny. There was a time when if anyone posted a negative CoD sentiment on a forum, they would be bum rushed and slammed before even getting in a second response. I think the tone in this forum and over on Xbox.com kind of tells the story this year.

By the way, I agree 100%.

Trade it back on Amazon if you don't like it.

Agreed. Although I'll just buy both at release date and trade back one to Amazon if I don't like it. Odds are that Amazon will offer game credit for pre-ordering at some point, so combine that with the trade in amount and you really won't loose much. Even better would be to sell on Craigslist, you could probably get $45-$50 for one of these shortly after release.

The amount of glitching, cheating, boosting, unbalanced gameplay, overpowered weapons/perks/killstreaks, etc.. was without a doubt the worse its ever been in COD history. No other COD game has had as many issues as MW2. With the problems it was riddled with, and their lack/slowness of support to fix those problems. I'm personally glad the "old IW" isnt around anymore to fock MW3 up.

The old IW that created COD4, the greatest shooter ever made? I'm glad they're gone too.

Odds are I will pre-order if I can get a great deal. For most of the major releases I can get $20 or more off in future purchase credits. A few games I have actually made money on (Halo:Reach) and a handful I have broke even on. Worst case I finish the single player and sell it off. Best case I keep it and play with the AVS gang. I should see enough before release to decide if I am going to pick it up. Believe me I want to, but with the shear amount of great games coming this year, I don't feel the NEED to buy MW3.

As great as COD4 was, (yes the greatest shooter ever made) it was where IW peaked. As I said.. MW2 was (and still is) a mess of a game. IW took everything from COD4.. and thought if it was bigger, badder, more destructive.. it would some how be better. Instead it ruined the finely balanced gamplay. In COD4.. you had a defensive counter for every weapon or perk. In MW2 you have basically an offensive multiplayer for every weapon or perk. Its like the entire goal of MW2 is to always string together a 25 hit combo.. as if you were playing a fighting game.. and get your Nuke.

IW completely lost its way. And while MW2 was still fun to play, they lost even more fans like myself when they became horribly slow to patch the cheating/boosting/glitching in the game. As if the unlimited noobtubing & marathon commando wasnt bad enough on its own.. For months at a time MW2 players were stuck with the care package glitch, the Javelin glitch, trick lobbies, ice rink games, players hiding in rocks/walls, etc.

It was very refreshing to see another developer (Treyarch) take the popular COD gameplay, and return it to a more balanced game. With guidance from Activision, old IW code, some old IW employees, new ideas and a new lead developer. Hopefully the MW series can return to the formula that made it so popular in the first place.

I agree MW2 was over the top. But at the same time, it was kind of a natural progression. IW said hey, people love these perks, killstreaks, etc so let's do it bigger and better.

IW was pretty much done by the time the game released so of course there were problems. Why wouldn't they have learned from their mistakes the same way Treyarch learned from IWs mistakes?

Every single series of COD has only been more popular than the last. So popular that since 2007 it has broken all records set by a single game. Even W@W and BLOPS by Treyarch are extremely polished titles that play well. Activision has made bllions and knows this is the hottest franchise they will ever have, do you really think them adding MORE help to polish/finish what will be (yet again) the BEST selling videogame ever is a bad thing? If anything additional support is a great thing. More people, more ideas, more creativity, more refinement.

I would like to point out that this sentence almost made me fall off my chair in laughter. Thank you for that.

I hear this and I think that you are certainly erring on the side of caution when you take the bet that MW3 is going to suck wienerschnitzel.

However, one positive you haven't noted is the talent that Activision got to back IW up: Sledgehammer-- a company run by former Visceral execs (Dead Space), and Raven-- which just put out the much-under-appreciated Singularity.

I'm hoping that this influx of talent can steer this ship right-- but I wouldn't bet on it. Let's face it: even the hallowed Cod4 had a lot wrong with it. CoD is, by design, a mess.

I'll still be buying it...

I hope so too. I am not trashing them because i enjoy it. I am being negative because since CoD4, the entire series has been a huge disappointment.

Coming from CoD2, i never thought 4 would even be decent. It shocked the hell out of me. Maybe this dismantling of IW is exactly what the series needs. Maybe Daekwan is right, maybe fresh ideas will be a good thing.

We will see. But i certainly wont be there on release day. I will be hanging back waiting to see what the masses think because i don't trust fourzerodouche or Activision.

From Twitter (@MW3Updates):

- For those asking about beta info: all I can say register at CALLOFDUTY.COM if you haven't already, and check your twitter often...

- Yes, MW3 will feature a whole new multiplayer engine. Much improved since MW2. Info on multiplayer will not be emerging until after E3.

- As for the campaign experience, you can be assured this game is deserving of it's Mature rating.

The only thing from that that sounds positive is the beta.

A new engine? We have heard that many times from devs trying to breath new life into a franchise.

Campaign? I dont care what its rated. Is it good?

I refuse to sign up for Twitter. I don't know why people need to see what others are doing, hell facebook is bad enough. I liked MW3 on facebook so hopefully that can get me in the beta.

I was about to say. The ONLY people I follow on twitter are companies, atheletes, racers and ideas that I care about. I dont care what my friends are doing, but I do care what Activision is doing about MW3. And I'd like to know about it as soon as possible. When used that way.. Twitter is a great tool for one-stop shop, up to the minute, 1st hand updates straight from 'the horses mouth'.

Then you can let us know any details about MW3!!!! If twitter is the only way I guess I will have to suck it up and sign up.

I am on Twitter following Respawn Ent. I will start following Activision as well and see if I can help contribute to this thread. Though I am pretty sure with my busy schedule someone else on here would beat me to it. Nonetheless, I will see what I can do.

I actually signed up. I won't give out my account to friend and family, but I figure it could be good for hobbies if I follow companies. Sure Daekwan will beat all of us to it, but it will still give me the heads up to check it!
Things I would hope to see in MW3:

1) Day and night maps
2) Snipers can only damage/kill when their the crosshair is on any part of the model's hitbox. Of course, I can imagine it being quite difficult to do with lag compensation.
  • This also means, no dragging (This isn't the movie Wanted and nobody can curve bullets)
  • For close quarter combat the rifle should be useless but if the crosshair fit inside the model's hitbox then thats a different story.
  • Secondary weapon is there for a reason
3) Structural damage to deter campers.
4) 60 fps
5) Fix flashbang so that if it goes off behind you it wont blind you. Since there isn't an equipment to counter flashbang, I think this is fair.
  • I recall in Counter-Strike when someone threw a flashbang in front of you and if you were quick enough to turn around it didn't blind you.

And just like Activision. I'm going to charge for the latest updates.

Please put $1 in my paypal account to see the world premiere video of MW3 lol
