kcaj,

I am also in Hereford (Palominas) at 78.1 miles from the Mt. Bigelow transmitters. I receive all of the Bigelow signals with strength of 84 -87 except for KGUN which I can not receive. It appears that my antenna is not as good for VHF reception. Channel 46 comes in at a strength of 84 and is watchable with a steady signal.

I also had the same temporary problem that you had with KOLD. I believe that it started back when we had high winds. My antenna did not need any adjustment. I had a signal but it would pixilate or freeze. The signal strength was at 84/85 but the signal quality would fluctuate from 100 to the lower 40s. Now the signal quality is back up to a steady 100.

Ron,
Good news! The VBI data is flowing again on analog channel 9. I had a call at 1455 and my contact told me it was fixed. I went into my diagnostic screens and saw my first clock set .since 5/16, happen at 2200 UTC (1500 local).

Somehow the data that COX sends to Comcast was leaving COX but was getting misrouted before it got to the reinsertion hardware at Comcast.
Something about a variable path vs a fixed path. It's fixed now.

Mick,
The grid is back but it seems stuck on "listings pending" for two days. The host is back with channel 9 as host.
On another topic, my neighbors are receiving letters from Comcast advising that to continue receiving channels beyond the basic 2 - 13 they will need a cable card or a set top box at additional cost. Something to do with encrypting the upper channels. My letter is probably in the mail. The change will probably affect disc recordings and could be a healthy pain in the neck.
Have you heard anything about this?

Ron,
You 'may' have to do a reset on your TVGOS device. I had to do a hard reset on my
Panasonic EH75 DVR. I believe the old grid was in place on 5/16 when the VBI signal ceased but the current listings have no grid associated. Once I did my reset, the grid was replaced with a new grid and all the listings began to fill in.
As for the change to digital. You can go online to comcast.com and order as many DTA boxes as you have open coax ports. You'll get one main box (ask for the small Motorola box because it puts out almost no heat when it's off) and a small DTA box for the other outlets. The DTA's only convert and have no access to on-demand or timer settings but the main box is a fully functional cable box that you can set up for timer recordings.
I received my equipment in 3 days but I don't believe our zip code will be converted until August or September of this year. They are doing it in stages.
After that change, only 2-13 will be available to analog tuners. Our TVGOS signals will remain on Analog Channel 9.

Mick,
Thanks for the words. I have a Mitsubishi HDTV with analog, ATSC and QAM tuners. Does that make any difference? Also, have two Hard Disc DVRs connected so I can record two different programs while watching a third on the TV. Coax inputs are on each of the DVRs and two on the TV. Also have a wireless Mac Mini and WII attached.
Do you think any of this stuff will be affected?
My head is starting to hurt!
Ron
Ron,
I'm sure ALL of it will be affected in some way. Without a DTA or Cable Box, you will ONLY Analog channels 3-19 and any of the Digital channels that are unencrypted.

No signal on my antenna from KVOA right now, while I'm trying to watch the US Open golf. All other channels still come in fine. I called KVOA, but of course no answer. Anyone else experiencing the same? It's been down for about half an hour at this point.
Well, I got a hold of someone there (Kevin?) who said they were working on it, and that a crew had been sent out to fix it (to Mt Lemmon?).

Might take a while I guess.
I already submitted one for the DTV being off the air since 3:00 PM today, it's been 2.5 hrs now and counting since they went off the air, I'm guessing it's not affecting their cable service or there would be a bigger uproar. Not sure what the rules & regulations are for them being off the air like this, I would hope there are some kind of fines or something since this would never have happened during 'analog" TV days, so I'm not sure why it's tolerated now without the hardware redundancy or multiple antennas or something so they aren't ever off the air unless there's a natural disaster maybe.

Considering stations have 30 days to notify the FCC if they're operating outside of normal parameters (including being off the air) I doubt anything will come of your complaint.

Is the RF 4 broadcast from Tumamoc Hill still on the air? Assuming it has a direct feed from the station it should be able to provide solid coverage to most of the city, at least for those with low VHF-capable antennas.

At least Over The Air TVGOS does not work anymore. It was on ch9 before.
Does anyone know what is the problem? And when it will be back again?

Anybody else in Comcastland notice that HD KWBA is off the air AND
that HD KVOA is ONLY left channel, both QAM AND Comcast cablebox?

This morning, the following HD channels were available in Tucson on Cox Cable:

Team HD on 661 (NBA League Pass, SDV)
Game HD 1 on 685 (MLB & NHL pkgs, SDV)
Game HD 2 on 686 (MLB & NHL pkgs, SDV)
ESPNews HD on 787 (Sports and Info Pak)
IFC HD on 789 (Movie Pak)
Fox Soccer Channel HD on 796 (Sports and Info Pak)
Style HD on 798 (Variety Pak)
Fuse HD on 801 (Variety Pak)
G4 HD on 802 (Sports and Info Pak)
History International HD on 803 (Sports and Info Pak)
SWRV on 900 (Variety Pak)

I think this finally puts all the channels that I watch in the HD tier with the addition of History International, Fox Soccer Channel, and G4. The only other HD channels I can think of that could be added are TCM and the Weather Channel.

I noticed nobody responded to your post. I recently moved to Sierra Vista from San Jose CA. I have a Sony DHG-HDD500 which uses TVGOS version 8. It ran flawlessly until my move. Here on COX cable I cannot even get the clock to set...with or without cablecard. I guess my DVR is now a "brick".

There is no verification for the claim. It looks like vandalism; probably from a teenage boy from Texas we knew as Dingbat2007.

Seems like an odd thing to do for vandalism. I'll still hold out hope. Looking at RTV's affiliate map, it seems past the time that it should be up in this market.

To you and me - yes, it is odd. But I and several others spent months fighting against just that kind of vandalism - over and over and over again. And Wikipedia is powerless to stop it. This kid went through nearly 100 aliases while I was active. I hate to be a killjoy, but don't hold your breath waiting for RTV. BTW, I hope I'm wrong.

Mick,
Believe u are in 85750. Is TVGOS still operative for you? The diagnostics screen on my TV no longer shows "Host 009", just Host 00. No grid anymore. Using the set up screen on my TV I removed the settings and reinputted the zip. Not sure whether that's a hard reset or not. No change. Don't know whether the cable card has anything to do with it. If I leave the TVGOS settings blank on the set up screen the menu key on the remote brings up something called "Channel View" which shows channels and nothing else.
Any thoughts?

Anyone have experience with a good indoor antenna for HDTV OTA which would work near Swan & Sunrise. I am currently using an FM radio antenna (a wire) and I get KUAS 27.1, 27.2, 27.3 & KHRR 40.1. I tried a RCA ANT1450BR which, if positioned right would get K16EO 9.4, 9.5, 9.6 I would like to be able to get K04QPD 4.1.

Thanks
I am located at Catalina and Tanque Verde. When I was operating OTA, I used a Radio Shack, 15-1892, Indoor VHF/UHF/HDTV antenna with RF remote control. The remote allowed for rotating the antenna when necessary. I had tried many indoor antennas and this one worked the best. I did receive all local channels. Note that due to multipath, whats works for you may not work for your neighbor.

And about time. The last to do it, and they crow like it's something really special. At least now maybe I don't have to put up with sd on a primetime HD broadcast so that they can plug some crap story that I don't care about and didn't need to know about simply because they were so far behind that they couldn't insert an HD crawl. Now, if KMSB will wake up and realize that they don't need to preempt the audio to run the actual NOAA alert about weather in another county -- I can read the crawl just fine.

KGUN and KMSB are still SD. That would make KOLD the second out of four local newscasts to go HD, not the last.

Speaking of local news...I hope KVOA loses the News "FOR" Tucson slogan soon. It is quite annoying.
Does anyone who have Directv and watch Wheel of Fortune on KGUN9 seem to notice the picture like studders and goes into a slow motion type effect alot? Ever since they started broadcasting it in HD it has seemed this way to me. I don't notice this on any other show or station so was curious if this was the way they were recording the show.
