Alas, we no longer have Chuck Amy to kick around anymore
Losing Chuck Amy, as well as Ralf Turk at 4 and Roy Mitchell at 11/18 just illustrates the growing frustration with the new Corporate landscape. What used to be local issues are now being dictated from Corporate headquarters thousands of miles away. They have no idea what's best for the community, only what works well for the Shareholders. All the experienced Engineers, who really knew how to fix anything are being frustrated by not being able to do much of anything without the Corporate Overlords approval. They put in requests for Capital Expenditures, that are consistently disapproved, while the News Departments get whatever they ask for, whatever the price. It makes it almost impossible to get upgrades for what you have, let alone NEW equipment. You have to keep equipment 20 to 30 years old going because new gear wont get approved. But if a news department asks for a Weather System upgrade that costs a hundred and twenty thousand dollars, Whammo! They get it. It's a matter of Return On Investment. Most corporations don't see HDTV as a profitable venture. There's no quick ROI. It is really quite sad to see the end of an era.
