First, your terminology is a little confusing:

DCDi was Faroudja's brand of deinterlacing commonly found in the FLI2200/2300 series ASICs. DCDi has nothing to do with scaling (ie. 480p to 1080p), but some of their DCDi parts were capable of scaling (ie. FLI230x), but this is not a function of the deinterlacer.

If you consider deinterlacing "enhancing", then yes - this was the primary purpose of these devices. The FLI2200+ also had rudimentary noise reduction and image controls.

Faroudja - there is a nice I havent heard in a long time. They were the gods of scalers for so many years and they used to be very expensive

Now, in late 2010, is DCDi still valid or has it been superseded by less well known chips in projectors and flat panels?

I ask because I'm planning to buy a large Sharp LED unit and there is an upgraded version with DCDi for about 20% more than the standard unit. The regular one doesn't specify what deinterlacer it uses. I'm wondering if its worth it for the Faroudja and if its a plus at all.

This is a scam. Sharp does not put the DCDi chip in their TVs, and neither does Froudja (STM or Sage). The only DCDi you will find is a stamp on a box. It's a fraud. If you already bought the TV, call to get your money back. Tell them you opened the back of your TV and found no DCDi chip there. If they don't give the money back, sue.
