Sounds as if your tv is still in store mode. I believe you change that in the tab with the toolbox/brief case icon.

My 60PZ550 goes back to Vivid each time I turn the TV on too. WTF?

Press HOME, go to options, change MODE SETTING to Home Use.

Multiple reports have came in that the Fry's B&M Ads for March 18-25 listing a 50" 3D plasma including 2 pairs or Glasses is indeed the 50PZ550, at a price (even after tax) that's well below the best Amazon price (without glasses). Search Slickdeals or Fry's ads on Mercury news for detail. I'll be heading to my local Fry's in a bit and will report back (and buy one) if it's indeed a 50PZ550.

Now I'm thinking on retun the LG60PZ550 and get the LG50PZ550 and save about $900

I was at Frys and it is the 50PZ550, I picked one along with the wireless usb stick which is priced at 29.99.

For the price seems like a good deal.

I went to the Campbell store and it is the 50PZ550 but they said I can't take it as they have to deliver it for $40. I didn't know any better till I came home and googled it, seems they have to deliver anything over 50" but I should be able to just pick this up at the store. I'm going to call back in the morning and if they don't have it, I'm going to go to another of their store in the area to pick one up.

Update: Ok, guess they don't stock anything 50" and above at the store so they all have to be delivered from local warehouse. Won't get it till Tues. In the meantime. I would appreciate any setup tip or video settings if someone have ran the unit thru a calibration DVD or some such. TIA.

Sorry, it was worth a shot. I did notice that when I put my tv into 3d mode it resorts back to vivid, but only because the expert modes where greyed out.

I saw this TV at a store today. The one thing I noticed, and it might have been the source... There was a Blu-Ray running, but it was some sort of demo disc. The image didn't seem to reach all the way to the edge of the screen. Has anyone seen this at home watching Blu-Ray or any HD content? There was even a moment when the image would shrink even further from the edge of the screen for a brief second or two and pop back out to it's original point, still not reaching the edge of the screen. Like I said, maybe just the demo disc but it has me concerned. I will go back with my own Blu-Ray in hand and see if they will let me put that on, but I wanted to ask about it here as well.

The unit I saw at the store have no such problem. Was the same image you saw also on other display nearby? if so, then they are going thru some sort of video distribution box to feed multiple screen with from the same source and the problem you saw could be with the distribution box.

Well, I am glad to hear that at least. It was set up with it's own Blu-Ray player. Most other TVs were all running ESPN on Direct TV or something like that. I actually had to have them turn on this one, it was pretty slow in there and they were shutting some units off. The sales guy wasn't the brightest, he was annoying me quite a bit. I'm going to go back and look at it closer, use the remote and everything myself. I'm sure the demo disc must have caused the issue. As a positive, I was fairly impressed with the picture on the screen. If I'm going to get a plasma, this will probably end up being the one.

Can anyone tell me how you access and turn on the 24p movie mode? I want to make sure I check that out.

Got a 60pz550 at Fry's yesterday....... Can't wait to enjoy!

just bought this from hhgregg. they price matched the current offer from Abt Electronics (exp 3-26): $1549 for 60pz550 + 2 pair 3D glasses shipped.
i got the glasses and the TV should arrive this wednesday. cant wait!!!

Hello everyone,

I bought the 50PZ550 and so far have really enjoyed it. I upgraded from an old 42inch Toshiba Regza 42HL167 which served me very well, but broke and I needed an excuse to get a new TV.

Now onto some thoughts of the TV. I decided on this one because of the good things I have seen from the 60PK950 that we have also. I really enjoy being able to access Netflix right from the TV and the dark blacks and natural colors the screen can produce. The addition of the 3D was a bonus, and I was excited to see what Killzone 3 would look like....That seems to be where my one and only real issue is with the unit.

I have noticed a real lag in the unit that I never had with my Toshiba. Now I realized that there would be some amount of lag, but when I hooked up the lag test software I was shocked. I got a very consistent number between 83-100ms mostly 100ms. I used the same HDMI connection that I use for my PS3 and used the TVs "Game Mode" setting and still got the same numbers that I got on my "User settings". Now I am hoping that maybe I did something wrong. So if anyone with the ability and time could run a lag test too and share the numbers with me I would really appreciate it. Or maybe I am not switching a setting off on the TV that is not obvious to me. I really wouldn't care but at this level of lag the game becomes more challenging to play.

Other smaller issues that I have found with the unit are really not that big, but I will run through them quick. first off the screen seems to be more susceptible to IR than the 60PK950 we have. Though to be fare I have not done a real through break-in for the unit and with a quick watching of something else the IR disappears. Also like others have said that when switching out of 3D and going back to a different input, some settings revert to default, the one that I have a problem with is the ISM goes from orbiter to normal.

Other than that I have no problems with the TV though I am still trying to figure out the differences in all the 3D settings.

Bad news for all of us owners. Chad B is reporting poor black levels (he's not released them yet) on the XXpz550's. I ran calibration with my i1LT in conjuction with HCRF this weekend and ran into the same thing (50% worse than a XXpk550). Color levels were very accurate with little work, so some bright side. Out of the box wasn't too bad either.



After reading this, I tried out my xbox 360 for the first time with the 60PZ550 since today is day 15 if I want to return. I had noticable lag running in custom mode, but when I switched to game mode I was satisfied... it seemed much more responsive. I'm not aware of a way to test latency with the 360 however to verify your results.

Have you tried to see what your lag is outside of 3D? Between the glasses and what must be a fair amount of picture processing I'd be curious to see if you have the same issues.

Those numbers of 83-100ms was without 3D turned on which is why I was so worried. With 3D turned on there is a bit more of lag, though I feel like it fluctuates a bit(though it might just be my spazzy movements when I play).

To hear than when you turned on game mode the response time got better makes me think that I still might be doing something wrong. I have some pics though they are back at home(at work now). will try to add some pics later.

Well, that's just great. Terrible input lag and WORSE blacks than last year. I was really leaning towards this TV.

Havent tested the 360 yet as it is still hooked up to my panny s1. However the black levels are great to the human eye. In fact much better than my s1 which had respectable levels pre rise and post rise. The only thing I like better and the panny is the screen is a tiny bit less reflective than the LG, but I have light blocking curtains anyways.

Well I wouldn't get to down on the unit I mean I'm mostly sure I have a setting wrong somewhere with my tests because when I tested today I got as low as 60ms...so don't take just my test as 100% accurate.

As far as I can see the blacks are real black to me so I don't see a problem with that.

Yeah I should probably just stop reading these forums, I just get scared away from everything. I liked the picture on this set at the store quite a bit. I don't play games online against people, so even if lag is a little high it should affect me too greatly. I am touch worried about racing games though... But overall for the money and the features, this seems like the best bet for what I want.

That's just it. Things like black level are all relative. My picture looks amazing... Sitting next to a Kuro? maybe not. How often is it going to be sitting next to a Kuro? It's a substantial step up over my Panny TH50PZ77U which picture wise has lost much of it's brightness.

Videophile's may want to steer clear of the XXpz550, but average joe's will enjoy the picture, internet features and 3d for the price.

Has anyone tried to use PLEX Media Server on the PZ550. I do not think it is available on that model but I wanted to check.

I completely agree, I'm going to jump on this deal now, I've read myself sick. I think it'll be a big improvement over my Samsung 61" 1080P DLP. I want 3D for some reason and won't be able to afford it in the theater room (Projector) for a while or at least until there are more options.

Wish I had a way to measure with the 360. I know it can be done with a laptop and a usb-to-hdmi cable, but those run over $25...

Another update.

Unit got delivered yesterday afternoon. but I had to wait till after dinner for a friend to come and help setup the new stand and mount the TV so we didn't get done till almost 10pm. which means I didn't have a lot of time to play with the unit but here's my first impression (short as it is).

Basic setup. PS3, CinemaGo (media player) and HD TIVO using HDMI going thru a Onkyo TX-SR608 5.1 setup onto the TV and a Optical cable for TV audio back to the Onkyo. OTA antenna into the TV. (this setup was previously connected to a 46" Sharp LCD).

I have tried the following.

Regular Blu-ray playback
Killzone 3 3D Demo (the 3D works, don't know about lag yet)
3D Blu-ray playback (Resident Evil Afterlife)
720P .mkv, DVD and BD iso, RMVB and HD .mp4 thru the media player.
Live TV and recorded shows from the HD Tivo.
OTA antenna.
Stream Youtube using Netcast
720P .mkv and HD .mp4 using the built-in Media player

Everything worked fine, The PS3 detected a 3D Display soon I switch the input over. Did not have time to watch the whole movie but the opening sequence in Tokyo and the 3D effect is damn good. Much better than using passive glasses in the theater. As most reviewer would say. RE A is not that good as a movie but it's a great 3D demo movie as it's full of the typical 3D exploitation shots. (some reviews rate the 3D effects to be superior than those of the Avatar 3D transfer).

The picture looks great right out of the box. The Black bars from a movie playback is pretty dark. Not dark enough to melt in with the black frame but pretty good. going thru the built-in calibration routine actually produce some improvement.

So far. I'm very happy with this set. Yes, it does not have the midnight black that you get from a Kuro but not many unit does and certainly none at this price. I would say if you currently watching anything non-Kuro more than a couple years old. This unit will offer decent improvement at a price that is hard to beat (Fry's deal expire tomorrow).

Working late tonight so I probably won't get much time with the unit. I still need to setup my new Wireless N router (current G) so I can try streaming media from my PC using DLNA. Would appreciate any hints on connecting to a Win7 PC.

I agree. I tend to think of any 3D TV I purchase in the meantime as an interim purchase as all the varies format will take a couple years to settle down. If and when that time comes. I'll invest in a high end model then.

I've had the PZ550 for 5 days now and so far I'm impressed, especially considering the price from Fry's.

I've had my XBOX 360 and PS3 connected without issue and streamed several HD movies via my Windows Home Server over Wireless N. Picture looked great. I watched a movie in Vudu's HDX "1080p" format as the first one is free when you sign up. It streamed fine over wireless and so does the netflix content. I had heard various things about LG USB wireless stick but it seems to work well.

If you need extra glasses Frys has the LG AG-S250 for $65 which is the cheapest I can find them.

I am about to pull the trigger on a 60PZ550. Does anyone know if it supports ARC so I can use with my Sony CT350 soundbar?

After way to much reading I have decided to go with the 60PZ550 plasma over the 55LW5600 LED.
