The x4 sub-pixels is referring to the Sharp quad-pixel (yellow pixel in addition to the normal reb, blue, green pixels). Both 830 and 831 are quad-pixel. While the Sharp spec page does not list the "(x4 sub-pixels) = 8 million dots", the 830 overview page does. I can not find any differences between the 830 and 831 (maybe a BestBuy unique part number or firmware difference?).
While the 830 and 831 are 120 Hz refresh with "120 Hz FineMotion", the 832 is 120 Hz refresh with "240 Hz AquaMotion". The 240 AquaMotion is some sort of adding frames to smooth the motion between frames. The 2011 Sony and Samsung lower level 3D units also use this 120 Hz Refresh with "XR 240 MotionFlow" (Sony) and "Double Frame Rate 240" (Samsung).
The 835 is 3D with true 240 Hz refresh rate as are the higher level Sony/Samsung 3D units.
From what I've read, 240 Hz is really only necessary for 3D (the rate of each eye of the 3D glasses is half the rate).
IMHO - On a 2D set, I don't think I can tell the difference between 120Hz refresh, 120Hz refresh with 204Hz motionflow, or 240 Hz refresh.
