I came THIS close to buying an LG 60PK750 the other day from a local supplier who had a very good price for that set. However, as I read through the threads, the PK550 might be a better fit for me (black levels and overall PQ). It's a little less expensive, too, so that's a plus! However, I was just online at an AVS participant's site and saw that the 60PZ550 can be had for about $150 more than I was going to pay for the 60PK750, and about $200 more than I would pay for the PK550. In one case I'd have to pay shipping, and in the other I'd have to pay sales tax, so it seems a bit of a wash that way, too. I can't find any formal reviews of the PZ550, and I'm curious to know if it's image quality is still superior to the PK750, the way the PK550 is/was. Does anyone know?
Since I'm down to basically those two sets (the PZ is attractive because it adds 3D (not a must-have), for a reasonable price), does anyone have any other suggestions in the "sub-$2000" range?
I'm sitting 16-17' from the screen in a room that we're about to tear out the paneling and put up sheetrock to help brighten, because it's just DARK. I realize that's a plus for watching some TV's, but not really a good environment for my kids to play in! That being said, even after the work we're planning, I still don't think the room will be super bright.
Given the distance and expected uses, size and PQ are my biggest concerns, with blacks and vivid colors being a preference. My kids and I play some games, but mostly single player (occasionally online, but nothing serious), so input lag is a concern but not a high one. My thought is that if we ever get more serious, I can put a smaller, dedicated gaming set somewhere else in the house, but this room is more for TV and movies.
