A few pages ago I posted two pictures right taken for having an opinion about the uniformity of my 46".
It does not refer to "no signal input" screen (I don't know why I have only a solid black screen in such a case, I have the latest fw... ) but the bluish is very similar.

Have a look to this picture taken with two different exposures:

Just for your reference...

Well, just decided for the hell of it to call Sony tech support to see what they have to say about this. The person I talked to just took my info, and told him what I see on my screen that's basically it. He said next step is the technical team will evaluate this and get back to me.

I'm so torn, because this TV is so amazing! I'm not even sure that even with the banding I could let it go back!...lol....I kinda just want to see if Sony will acknowledge it and give a definitive answer on what this problem is.

See the lighter edges on your blue screen? That shows up as faded gray/orange/pink/blue/etc during normal viewing, and it's quite unacceptable.

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see what can be done; the guy near the top with the banding photos has almost a perfect uniformity compared to ours, so now I know that uniform screens do exist.

Can anyone else please post screenshots of their no input screens for reference? I really want to believe it'd be possible for me to get a screen without brighter edges!

Also, if I got my set on December 20th of last year, am I past the easy exchange period? Am I still covered?

Hi swugly, if you are taking my banding photos as reference remember they are from a 65" model. wsxcde screen is a 55 (like yours?). I really have not checked the 55, only in stores. Other 55 owners may comment if they see something similar and help you more.

Effective April 1, Sony & Samsung will not discount or allow their products to be discounted retail. And if you've followed thread past few weeks 55" and 65" seem to be drying up.

Just to wrap up my Vt30 versus 929 experience, I have now had 30 days with the 929. I put my VT30 back for the final comparison. Well, now I'm shocked. The VT30 is more bright and crisp when watching TV/Movies.. even my wife noticed. Gaming still goes to the 929 hands down tho. The Vt30 can't get bright enough for that odd as it is.

I had enough time wasting on comparisons, bottom line go with what u like

I've located a 55 at a great price via internet from a great e-tailer. Pretty solid on this do you think? Should I pull the trigger?

If you've read through the thread, I think you'll find those with good panels are exceptionally satisfied and happy !
I know I am.

Yeah I followed this thread and read every page through early December. Then quit...now I'm back on it Just making sure I didn't miss anything. It seems the crease issue has been at least minimized now and the DSE/clouding is hit or miss. I also know problems tend to be voiced here more than other places which can skew the data a bit...

I'm extremely satisfied too...even with the banding I don't want to not have this set!... Lol

On a side note, Sony called me back to ask if I could email them pics of the problem.

Is it true that Sony and sharp lcds are the same exact thing just different external appearance?

Processing is different and I don't think all panels are shared.

Sharp panels use the super awfull split pixel tecnology and they look very grainy, the hx920 uses samsung panels, they look very nitid and you can see them at any distance, so I think Sony and Sharps have nothing in common other than being tvs.

I just powered my new XBR-65HX929 today . It was built in February 2012. Out of the box, the picture look great. My neighbor, who helped me place it on a Techcraft BAY6028 Credenza, said it is a beautiful set. He has a 40 inch XBR.

I have already made my request to IMRIZZO for a copy of his settings. Now I have to checkout all of the connected Sony equipment: Blu-Ray players, single and mega changers, DVRs, and a Beta recorder (that right )

Well thanks to this thread in particular I pulled the trigger earlier this week on an XBR-55HX929. I researched and debated for almost a month between Plasma and LED, Samsung, Panasonic and Sony with this set finally winning out. I purchased it from Vanns through Amazon for what I think was a pretty decent price of $2250 all in.

It arrived today and has been sitting in the box in the middle of the rec room floor for the last couple of hours. I'm almost scared to touch it but also dying to see the build date and the obvious hope of no issues.

My opening newbie question is if there is anything anyone would suggest doing right out of the box ? Is there a sticky somewhere in the forum that I missed ? Vanns suggested unpacking it and letting it warm up to room temp for 4-5 hours before plugging it in and turning it on. Thoughts ?

Anything else to do right away ?

Any and all input much appreciated and again thanks to everyone for this amazing (and freakin long) thread and the wealth of information contained here in !

I hope you've opened it by now and that you are need deep in cables and settings. If you got the 3D glasses already, the demo 3D videos direct to the TV (Internet Content -> 3D Experience) were the first content I viewed after slapping a cat5 cable in the back.
