I'm confused here, at first I was shocked that the 55HX929 prices have shot up $1300 in one week?

but then I checked sony.com and they are now labeling the HX929 "XBR" , is that for the 2012 models? and is this "intelligent peak LED" something new for 2012? its a bit confusing because they kept the model number the same for 2012?

Yeah, you are a bit confused. It has always been officially the XBR-55HX929. And yes it is the 2011 model. There is no XBR 2012 replacement yet.

Seriously, why clog up the official thread with these redundant requests? Why not just PM Rizzo directly?

I have that info in my signature the few that still request 'in-thread' are an extreme small amount I've had several hundred request since Dec.

We, (I've) been posting about Pricing Change that was forthcoming for at least a month, suggesting those who were hesitating, would regret that hesitation lapse. Now your left with buying a PanaPlasma as they are the only pricing holdout and who know for how long. And now you'll be left with "SETTLING" rather than what you wanted.

Thank you all for the forewarning on UPP. I got Amazon to price match US-appliance at very great price one day prior to UPP price effect. Looks like I now got the TV at a 60% discount. Sorry to gloat, I wish I could time the stock market as I did this purchase. I am upgrading from a 37" 1080p Westinghouse monitor, with one HDMI and no TV tuner that has served me well since 2006. I hope I am happy.

Also went through 3 sets Oct/2011, Nov/2011 & Jan/2012...they all had the extreme banding...Good luck!!!

Yah I hear you guys....To be honest....even with the banding on my current set I can't notice it 99 percent of the time...I will totally keep it if the new one has banding....Hopefully a newer model is free of it but I'll keep you all informed.

I just kind of want Sony to say what exactly this banding is and why it's there....I mean the set does cost around 5 grand, actually $5399.00 now which is a lot for a TV!......Aside from that it's seriously spectacular...I can't imagine what they could do aside from fixing the banding issue to make it even better from here on in. The picture is just so killer!

Ok guys, got my 55 a day early, it arrived yesterday. I'm liking it a lot so far but I'm having a couple of minor issues...

1) on HGTV for example it looks as if the logo is floating in the bottom right corner, like its moving up and down a couple pixels and its distracting and annoying. It's almost like it isn't handling the deinterlacing correctly or that I've got some kind of noise reducer or something turned on that's causing it to do that.

2) what does the "picture" setting do? It almost reminds me of the old school contrast? Certain setups recommend this setting between 70 and 90. It tends to look better on my set at around 85 or so. But what is this actually doing?

3) which motion flow settings do you guys recommend for sports? Smooth? Clear? Clear plus?

Also would you guys recommend turning the backlight down a bit lower and increasing the brightness or vice versa?

Finally, do these LED/LCD sets settle in after a hundred hours or so?

As of now no crease, no banding (at least that I've seen yet) some very minor issues along the very top of the panel on mostly white screens is about the only uniformity issue thus far.

What settings are you using ?

At this point a combination of yours and Hometheater magazine. I'm supposed to get my calibration disc back from a buddy pretty quick. If not I'll just order a new one.

All the items like noise reduction, edge enhancement etc are turned off.

edit: e-mailed my buddy said he didn't have it that I left it in my backpack, I did and used it...

hitachi is still in the display businesss? haven't seen a model from them in years.

That's not in SONY's DNA (to paraphrase one of their old commercials). With the SXRD fiasco they eventually offered an exchange program but never explained what goes wrong in the optical block and what causes it to go bad.

Do you have cable or satellite? Did you connect directly to the TV? Do you have Hi speed HDMI cable? What is the highest resolution on your STB? Make sure you have the correct settings on your STB and AVR as well if you have it also.

edit: BTW the mysterious floating logo thing fixed itself. It's since reappeared twice but as of now it's ok.

After a very long time, today I planned to watch Avatar 3D again and I discovered that the latest firmware update has fixed the flickering thing while watching 3D. Last time when I watched a 3D movie, I had to set Motionflow to Smooth to enjoy flicker free 3D. But now I can enjoy 3D without messing Motionflow. By the way I'm using the Sony TDG-BR250 3D glasses.

the display panels their jointly working on is hand held panels and Phone type panels. they all recognized that will be the next growth product, and they all wanna be on that band wagon.

Some material on this set looks incredible. Other material is mediocre at best. I'm sure some of that is source material. But even my wife commented that a lot of stuff looks washed out compared with the Pioneer. This set seems exceedingly picky with the feed. I am watching a basketball game on one channel vs the other and the difference is pretty significant. I've run my DVE calibration to dial it in a bit more...

Overall this set is pretty good, I'm just wondering if it's not the best choice for us...

You are right on the money with that assessment. This TV does a horrible job with less than perfect source material. Its frustrating because when its fed good source material its nothing short of amazing. Such a wide spectrum!

I think the TV is so good that when sent lousy source material it is showing exactly how lousy that material is in fact....But when sent killer material like a blu-ray it is again showing how good of a TV it is.

I haven't tried the reality pro engine, but is that supposed to be helping make lousy stuff look better?

I was worried after reading these post that my cox cable HD channels would be looking terrible, but in fact it's the opposite, they look incredible.

I had a lot more banding when this was new. It's changed significantly. Wish we could get a definitive explanation.

I noticed on my second 65hx729 that the banding faded also. I had to wait about two months for the 65hx929 to come in and they let me keep the 729 while I waited. By the time the 929 arrived that banding on the 729 had faded by about 30-40%. I am hoping that the banding on the new 929 fades also.

Have Sony 65hx929 (only 6 weeks) connected to DIRECTV's new HMR-34. While watching recording on TV, suddenly screen goes black and Sony logo appears on screen (like when I first turn on TV). This lasts 1-2 seconds then the screen goes back to DIRECTV recording at the point before blackout. Power cords connected to Monster Powercenter. No power outage when this occurs. When DIRECTV receiver is not on, TV screen states No Signal. Think problem is TV. If problem was DIRECTV receiver wouldn't TV screen simply go to NO Signal screen. Does any one have an idea on cause or what to do? This problem occurs infrequently (perhaps once a week or less) but in my mind this should not be occurring at all. I have sent an email to Sony and have also posted this question on DBSTalk.com. Has anyone else had this problem?

Gonna have to check that out. It is a fairly easy fix (sync signal was operating at too low a frequency), but I am a tad surprised Sony decided to address it.

Hello all. I am the new and proud owner of a XBR46HX929. Got a great price of $20XX after taxes from a NYC based physical/online retailer who is great at price matching. A January 2012 build with some flash lighting mainly in the bottom corners but it doesn't bother me much. I don't think it's worth the hassle of an exchange as of yet. I tweaked my set on my own and I love the picture. Watched Tron Legacy on Blu Ray and it looked amazing. I'm curious though as to why in most people settings, they seem to turn OFF all the stuff that we paid this premium price for. Motion flow, detail/edge enhancer, noise reducers, contrast enhancer, black corrector, etc. I notice that most setting on the net have all the bells and whistles we paid extra for turned off which is kinda confusing. I happen to love motionflow. Clear for cable broadcasting and PS3 gaming. Smooth for blu ray watching. Is there anyone out the who has some setting recommendations that actually use the features on the tv that we paid extra for? I'm constantly messing with my setting no matter how good I get it to look but I never settle. Any suggestions welcome. How about those settings Rizzo
