(I suppose I could always order from the U.S.) I am growing increasingly annoyed with the Playstation branded glasses...they are seizure glasses.

New owner here I purchased the 55hx929 and just had a question for you guys. Do you leave your tv in stand by mode or do you use the energy saving switch on the side of the tv to turn power completely off when tv is not in use? I called Sony and when I asked the rep she said the energy saving switch should be turned off when tv is not in use or it could cause the tv to overheat? So every time I go to turn on and off this tv I have to use the energy saving switch on the side of the tv or risk the tv overheating if left in stand by mode? Any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks.

My set has been in standby for over a year now,Toublefree, when you shut it off completely it takes a little longer to boot up. I would only shut it down and unplug it if I intended not to turn it on for week or more (just to be on the safe side).

Haha!! I didn't even know there was a switch...so, no I don't use the switch. smile.gif

It you were really worried about it I would recommend a smart power strip instead of using the energy saving switch.

My 46" has also been doing the reboot once or twice a week at start up as a few others have mentioned ever since a couple of software updates ago. I figured what the heck, I might as well try to reset to see if it stops the behavior. I followed "IMRIZZO'S" instructions and got the reset to work on the first try. In a few more days I'll know if this procedure has been successful or not. So far, the set has not done a reboot on start up since the reset. Thanks for your easy to follow instructions "I'MRIZZO". It is a bit of a pita to re-enter all of the settings, but if it solves the odd behavior it's worth it.

does sony still offer trade-in's for faulty tv's? I've had my tv for 10 months and it's started to develop problems. Does anybody have the number to call where they accept a camera shot of the fault and offer a trade-in?

The flicker you had with your 250 glasses, what setting were you using for motionflow? I have the 250 pair and its only watchable when motionflow for 3D is on smooth. Please tell me more about your 750.

by the way, Journey 2 3D is awesome.

My settings are Motionflow off, I only watched one movie (Avatar) And after watching with the 750's the 'flicker' gone been very busy and forgot to respond again sorry.

Just wanted to weigh in about the new Titanium 750 3D Sony Glasses. I also am so happy with them. To me, they make a huge difference. They are so light it is like I barely notice they are there. And I have to wear regular glasses under them. Yet, still they are much much much better. It really makes for a much more enjoyable 3D experience now. Much less of an ordeal. Just slip them on and wow.
They charge quickly too and I think I read that 40 minute charge is 15 hours. 5 minute charge is 3 hours. Like others here, I highly recommend them. They should really enhance your 3D experience. They certainly did that for me!

I purchased this TV a couple months ago, and while I certainly love a lot of things about it, I do have to say I'm *slightly* disappointed in this set, compared to what I thought I might be getting.

First off, I should probably say that I have a family member who has a 40'' Samsung, and has had it for a handful of years now. One thing I always appreciated about her TV was that DirecTV always looked surprisingly sharp and clear, and any sporting event--basketball, football, etc--always looked incredibly smooth, to the point where it felt like you were sitting in the stands watching it live.

I'm not getting that with my 55 HX929, and to that degree, I'm really disappointed. I love Blu Rays, and video games look good, but DirecTV is just "pretty good." I know it's satellite, so I wasn't expecting miracles, but when it comes to sporting events in particular, I thought I could set it to a couple different options and watch NFL football or NBA basketball in incredibly smooth motion. That's simply not the case, especially when compared to the Samsung.

Is this just a case of Sony and Samsung being different brands that produce different results?

You do realise you are comparing a 40inch tv to a 55inch tv....

Well of course, but what does size have to do with how smooth the picture looks when watching sports?

For example, the Sony has a feature on the TV--the Smooth option--which makes film look like video. I don't particularly like it for movies, but think it would be ideal to have that effect for sports viewing.

I know this because the Samsung can create this look for sports, so when you watch a football game, it looks *incredibly* smooth. And unlike a movie, where that effect can make things look fake or cheap, it only enhances the reality of the sport you're watching.

I can't do this with the Sony, which is disappointing.

What is your picture settings? Have you had your TV professionaly calibrated or calibrated yourself? Have you tried the different scene modes especially the Sports scene mode when you watch sports videos? You know you can turn on/off Smooth option anytime you want right?

In bold, size makes a difference here. wink.gif

Have you tried clear? Standard always makes motion look super smooth on any Sony i have seen, i personally hate it. I always use Clear personally.

I haven't had the TV properly calibrated, but I did tune the TV to my liking. I'm not at home, so I can't give the settings right now, but I will say that the TV does look good, the color looks natural, the blacks look fantastic.

I've tried all the options--smooth, clear, clear plus. I've tried the different scene modes. And like I said, games look good, Blu ray's look fantastic, but when it comes to the smoothness of the picture, I figured this TV would smoke a 3 year old Samsung, and it simply doesn't in any way, shape, or form (talking strictly sports viewing here).

I couldn't tell you the specs of the Samsung, but simply posted my thoughts here to see if anyone knows if Samsung typically has Sony beat in this area. I haven't seen it talked about much online, so I really don't know (and didn't know prior to purchasing).

It's a pretty significant difference, though. Like I said before, watching sports on the Samsung is almost identical to watching a movie on the Sony in the Smooth setting. The action unfolds in a smoother fashion, there's no blur--it's almost like "hyper reality." Again, not my taste per se for movies, but with sports, it's pretty impressive.

Anyone have any more info on the announcement/release of the new 65" XBR? I have a buddy who's itching to buy a 65HX929, but I've been telling him to wait until the new model is released.

TIA!

I was under the impression that the last cycle was a release of the 46" and 55" in March/April of 2011, and the 65" at the end of summer 2011. I thought they announced the new 46" and 55" sets at CES 2012 and these smaller sets were now available, but we were still waiting for the announcement/release of a new XBR 65" set. Am I wrong?

Your in error, the XBR65HX929 as well at the 46" & 55" have not been replaced and is still in production for 2012, the newest Sony Top tier is the HX850 and is only available in 46" or 55".

Thanks for the info. Is the product cycle for the XBRs normally more than one year?? I thought that new models come out every year.

There are reports in the Uk from Sony reps of August release date for the HX950. I haven't heard anything personally, i am happy with my 55HX853. smile.gif

Sony is reconsidering their TV strategy, so it's hard to say what's going to happen in the future. They have offically said that they are going to "de-emphsize TVs". It does not look like there will be a replacement for the XBR-929 in 2012 in any size. (And wasn't there no XBR at all one year...2009 maybe?). And if there was a replacement, I would think it would be a very minor update - probably just cosmetics.

Going forward, Sony is giving consideration to not producing their own sets, especially at the low-end of the line. Obviously, if Sony is only going to OEM someone else's sets, there's no point paying for the Sony nameplate. On the other hand, Sony has also given lip-service to producing sets using newer technologies.

So it's really a matter of "wait-and-see". But at this point, I doubt there will be any new product announcements before the January CES show.

If it's greyed out then you can not gain access to it via any other means.

How do others adjust this setting then when watching 3D?

If it's greyed out for your then it's greyed out for us as well. Although I'm not sure but what scene mode are you on when your Motionflow is greyed out while watching 3D? I'm not at home and cannot remember but I think when you're in Animation scene mode and on 3D, you're able to change the Motionflow settings. Are you in General scene mode and Custom Picture setting? I have to check at home later to confirm what you're saying.
