Official Sony HX929 Owner's thread (46HX929, 55HX929, 65HX929) No Price Talk - Page 463

I don't know about the US but here in Canada it's now near impossible to pick up the 65HX929. Getting one for a friend as I'm setting up his HT room, already got all his audio gear but I'm having a tough time locating a 65" 929. Went to three Sony stores and they are all out of stock except for one selling their display unit, nothing coming into their warehouses either. FutureShop and Best Buy, the same thing. All three Sony reps I spoke with said that it's now showing as discontinued in their system, and one rep, after pressing him for more info, smirkily said to wait until August without wanting to say anymore. I take it the next XBR/929 replacement may be coming out next month?

I don't believe we'll see any OLED this year. The Aug. release may be the 65" HX850, even my very reliable sources are being very tight lipped about anything.

The problem is, due to the larger screen real estate it is very difficult to evenly light the panel from the edges ( remember the HX850's are edge lit)

that makes sense. the only other possibilty is a bigger 929- or they bring out the crystal led they spoke about thats suppose to come out in 13 or a larger 850 i think
post #13868 of 15169
Or the HX950, about which not much is known at present, other than it appears to have a full-array backlite.
I posted this several pages back, it is announced in the Turkish SonyStyle site with no info posted btw I don't believe this is a full array set.

Guys, I just bought myself a pair of Xpand X103 glasses, but I can't enjoy 3D games or movies on my PC.

I have everything set up: video card connected to receiver via HDMi 1.4 cable, which is connected to the TV the same way, latest geforce WHQL drivers with 3d tv play enabled, resolution set to 1920x1080/24hz on nvidia control panel.

The 3d vision 3d test works, I get the 3d effect, but everytime I try to see a 3d blu ray disc or play a game (which is 3d vision ready, and 720p/60hz set), I dont get 3d. The TV actually recognizes the 3D source as soon as I select the correct resolution (1920x1080/24 or 1280x720/60), but the actual game or movie still appears in 2D. Im using cyberlink Powerdvd 12 ultra, which supports 3d.

Can anyone help?
Thanks!

I can maybe help with the games, I use a PS3 for movies since my PC is housed in another room. First test I guess would be to see if you get control of the 3D in games, even though you aren't seeming any effect. Assuming from your posts you have an NVIDIA card and you've got the correct software. Use the CTRL-F3/F4 in game to see if you can adjust the depth. You should see an overlay on the screen showing the amount of depth represented much like a volume indicator on the bottom portion of the screen. Let me know if you see that and we can go from there. (it is possible it is turned all the way down and you just aren't getting much effect).

Also, what are you running as a game? I presume you've looked in to compatibility for the game and such?

But still somewhat limited supply in the U.S. Good deals from a few non-authorized Internet guys, All Time tv's in NYC. I just got a 65 from them. Great service, white glove delivery. Very good price. Even they told me Sony is running down the inventory before the announce a replacement.

Re: 65HX929 using Internet video. How do you use a theater receiver for Internet movies instead of internal speakers? We never use the internal speakers for any other sources.

Thx DD

use the optical output to your receiver using a tos-link (optical cable) for 5.1 sound

To use multi-channel audio, connect to an external audio system compatible with Dolby Digital using an optical cable, and select [Audio System].
[Audio System] must be selected to listen to 5.1 multi-channel audio.

Sharp builds large screen edge lit displays and have always been noticed for having very good screen uniformity.

If your receiver is HDMI CEC compatible and you are using HDMI, the TV will automatically send the audio back to the receiver via the same HDMI cable that is normally used to send video from the receiver to the TV (I think it must be HDMI 1). That's my setup and it works great with a single HDMI connection to the TV. This has the added advantage of controlling on/off and volume easily with the TV remote (the signals are also sent to the receiver via HDMI).

I'm not a fan of Sharp products, with the exception of the Elite, and that's not a true Sharrp product but a collaboration of Pioneer tech's and build guides with unlimited funds to create and market..

Many of he major R&D people came from Pioneer research department and were provided with much of Pioneer research material when they went to Sharp to assist and develop the (Sharp) Elite brand. They were also given carte blanc to create the maximum LED display not all companies can afford that gamble in today's economy.

Thx Riz. I looked through the manual the other night and saw the toslink connection for audio out to a receiver. The problem is that my current Yamaha receiver does not have HDMI connections, so I have separate audio connections via toslink. So, until I replace the receiver, I can't take advantage of the ARC HDMI connection for two-way audio. The separate toslink will hold me over until I get a new receiver with ARC HDMI.

Thx DD

Does the base stand swivel or is it fixed on the 65"?

According to Sony's website stand is tilt-able but makes no mention of swivel, a feature that certainly should be mentioned, so by this absence it would be safe to assume it doesn't swivel. Im sure this feature was canceled for safety reasons if a panel that size swivels too quickly there is a possibility of balances, that's a lotta real estate to spin around (usually not by the owner, but others) It would make liability controllable, and keep in mind what that would add to Prices (liability insurance cost $$$)

The 65 does not swivel - and i would hesitate to say it "tilts". as others have mentioned it is a bit wobbly on its base - so maybe that is the tilt feature :-)....

The tilt feature is purposed for install 65" on a low media stand, the tilt corrects the vertical off-axis problems. But if someone had 'young' hands present why would you present a problem by putting it within reach ??

im curious IMRIZZO- i am currently using a tilt wall mount for my xbr3 i was told that the mount is good for this 929 65" if i tilt this tv downward like i have at present- does that effect the 3d or should the tv just be flat against the wall. thanks for any knowledge or assistance

If your viewing height(center screen) is within 36" off the floor this will correspond with your (seated) viewing eye-line height, the off-view axis is more pronounced with vertical tilt the object is to angle the screen so you are viewing it HEAD-ON so tilting on a higher then 36" is highly recommended.
