New top of the range for Japan will be released worldwide soon .

Hey guys with the monolithic stand, I can no longer purchase them in Australia since they have been discontinued, I was wondering ho the compatibility is with them? I can get one from the UK but the power cables there are different\.. Do they require a power point or do they somehow leech power from the TV unit itself. I just don't know whether it is worth me importing one if it does not work. Thanks guys.

Here are some more information on the Sony's Japanese site:

That's good news but if you read it, its an KDL-HX-950, doesn't indicate that this is the NEW XBR ? XBR has always been their Top of the Line set.??

Probably the next set to wear an XBR badge will be an OLED panel.

I guess it's possible but the HX950's japanese price is more than the equivalent HX929's MSRP, making them astronomically priced sets for non-XBR. Also, the HX950 is a full array with local dimming set which, correct me if I'm wrong, would be the first non-XBR full array Sony TV. Not to mention that the marketing material (from the Japanese Sony site) only compares the 950's improvements over the HX92x series so it's targeted specifically at replacing the 929.
PC Richards has told me they expect the 950 in the next 2 months. They have it listed at $5,500.I hope Sony took care of the banding problem.I will probably return my 65hx due to banding.I got it for about $1000 off retail but that banding rears it's head every so often.I was thinking of keeping it due to the price. With the 950 coming out, I'll have to fork over the extra cash for a band free set.

So, based on the little we know, what do we think about HX95X vs HX92X? I get the impression that it is mainly an upgrade, rather than something revolutionary, so anyone with a fully working HX929 really has no reason to upgrade, right?
@Improwise,I wouldn't upgrade if your 929 is working fine.It does look like an upgrade. If they can improve the blooming that would be fine.It doesn't bother me on the 929.If I can find a 929 without defects I would get it.Who knows what problems the first batch of 950's will have.

The specs say "Dynamic Edge LED" w/ "Local Dimming." Shouldn't it be full-array?

BTW, I just picked up and connected my 65hx929, and what a difference compared to my 8 year old Samsung 61" DLP! IMRIZZO, can you please PM me your calibration settings? Thanks in advance!

Too big for me, but I'd love to see the technology in action, and I'm sure Sony will be displaying them with some Super 4K SPECIAL promotional material.

You were asking about wall mounting your set. In my case, I mounted my set to the wall using a "Sanus" mounting system. It came with complete instructions and I can report the quality of the product produced by Sanus was excellent. I had little or no problem with the mount and would recommend to anyone considering this type of mounting. I would comment that my wall mount was installed on an exterior CMU wall with furred drywall on the interior. I point this out because that situation can cause some detail concerns as it did in my case. I see that you are planning to mount the 55HX929 set on the wall. I would imagine this should work even better than mine. In my case, I did not get a chance to review the latest installation specifications from Sony before I received my set. This Sanus mount provides a space of 1.5" behind the set. I don't think I would use anything less than that for ease of routing the various cables. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, my set came (65HX929), and much to my surprise, many of the cables plugged into the back of the TV at 90 degrees. I was originally looking at the specs for the 55 similar to your set. The 55 plugs in from underneath, and not perpendicular to the set. This makes a "HUGE" difference when mounting to an exterior wall. I don't think that will be a concern for your situation. Good luck.

I was reading some of the other post talking about power usage difference between the Plasma and the LED Sony. I'm not sure I know what the technical specs say regarding the difference, but I can report after my set has been on for hours, it seems barely warm. I don't think you will find that to be the case with a Plasma set. YMMV :-)

Best Regards,

Does anybody know if the Sony Bravia XBR 46HX929 is still being sold or is still manufactured? I checked on Sony's website but it says it's unavailable. They only have the 55" models for sale. I want the 46". Any advice? Thank you.

Depends on where you are. I'm in Canada and the 46HX929 has been discontinued and out of stock in most, if not all places for at least 1-2 months. However, in the US, Amazon shows it in stock (I presume from third party resellers). This TV is becoming, if it hasn't already become a hot commodity since Sony appears to be dropping the 46" XBR, at least in some markets, and instead focusing on 55" and 65" only (see HX950 announcement). Looks like Sony is relegating the high-end in sub-50" to the HX850 which is edge-lit.

Just got my 55-inch hooked up today. Have not watched it much, but used IMRIZZO calibration. Thank you sir.

What is the best cleaning kit out there for this unit, especially with the Gorilla glass?

Interesting to see that the NEW 84 XBR is not Full ARRAY...that is disappointing and my personal impression of the design is under par.

One the side,
I bought my sony 65 2 weeks back with the agreement with the store manager that I can exchange this with the new Replacement that is coming this holidays, if I tell him my choice within 45 days.
Looking at the new hx950 -- I don;t know why it is not an XBR???? not sure if Sony does not consider this as an XBR, it is not its FLAGSHIP model. And if not for marketing, I dont want to downgrade from an XBR to a non-XBR KDL-65hx950....does not feel good...

May be there is something coming after hx950....which would be the XBR...may be a 65-XBRHX979?

Any thoughts...

Oled models will be XBR going forward.

Sony used literally same set last 2 years and now branching to oled and 4k , hopefully 950 is not a regressive gimmick like their xbr 5-7;(

Could this be incorrect? They list it as XBR on this one.

Could someone please explain to me why the name is so important, ie that XBR is in it? Aren't the specs more important?
As far as I understand, Sony only uses the XBR brand in the USA, so all tvs in Europe/Japan wouldn't be XBR - even if it's the exact same model

Only use distilled water and a microfibre cloth. Anything else is not necessary unless you have some serious stuff on it.
But otherwise, don't use any chemicals please.

I see. I was about to order the Monster Kit with the amonia free liquid cleaner and a microfiber cloth and another kit from Phillips as well. The Sony store sells the Monster kit, so I thought that they approved and recommended it.
