I have the PS3 glasses for my 929 and they are actually pretty good for my viewing. Tried all the others in the Sony store. They lost way more brightness when you tilted your head just a little. The PS3 glasses didn't. To be honest, they are kind of big, but are not that uncomfortable at all. Not to heavy either. I like mine.

Compared to the el cheapo PS3 3D glasses, I thought the 750s were terrible (I did not have the polarizing filter clip ons) image wise and returned them. Almost as bad as the 250s which I also sent back. If you tilt your head even slightly, the image degraded terribly. With the PS3, there was significantly less crosstalk especially if you moved your head..... you could almost sit on your head and the image remained constant.

I'm assuming the polarizing filters make a huge difference for the 750s, but since I wear prescription glasses, the PS3s actually fit over the regular glasses much more comfortably so I didn't bother requesting the filters from Sony.

I would be interested in new models as well, but with Sony's shift toward Passive on many of the 2013 models, I'm wondering if I should pick up a couple extra pairs of the PS3s now before they start to disappear in case there are no more new models in the works from Sony compatible with 2012 and earlier tvs.

I prefer the 750 and 250 to the PS3 glasses. I have two sets of PS3 glasses, but I think the crosstalk was better on the 750. I know if you go off-axis with the glasses it will mess with the colour, but honestly I don't have that problem when I wear them, and I wear them a LOT. The biggest plus for the 750s is the weight...they are SO much lighter and less cumbersome feeling. When you have them on for 4 hour+ gaming sessions, this can make a big difference. I don't have regular eye glasses, so the fact of glasses on my face is something I am not used to except for my sunglasses which are also extremely light.

I'm surprised to hear that in regards to crosstalk. You are the first person I've seen post either forum member or professional reviewer that has experienced less crosstalk with the 750s and 250s compared to the PS3 glasses. Do you have the polarizing filter clip ons for them? I never bothered to order the clip ons so I don't know how much of an improvement they really make. I agree about comfort, but the other issue I have with the 750s is it lets in way too much ambient light from the sides when not watching in the dark, but then the red glow appears if you watch in the dark from the power button. I guess if they could just develop a pair that combines both aspects in regards to comfort and performance, we'll be all set.

No I don't have the polarizing filters for them, but I still feel they offer the least amount of crosstalk from the 4 different models of glasses I have. I am in a totally dark room, so I have no issues with ambient light and I do see the green flashing light from the glasses if I specifically look for it, but I don't notice it while watching movies or gaming.

I really liked them, but if they were reviewed poorly, then that would explain them being retired.

I just picked up an open box 55hx929 at my local Frys, it had been a display model for a very long time, and I got it for a very good price. The backlight is still as bright as the sun, and the TV is performing great. It probably has thousands of service hours on it.

I am seeing crosstalk in 3D, and I've tried the Sony 250 glasses, the xpand x103 glasses, and the playstation glasses. The playstation glasses are doing the best at minimizing the issue for me. The result is acceptable and I'm happy with 3D on this set. I'm very pleased at the bright picture this set produces in 3D.

Sounds like people love this set, I have a chance to pick this up for about 1100$ with a 5 year warranty from a major retailer. It was a display for the better part of 6 months but no banding issues or any other image issues I can see. I'm guessing I should jump on this?

Yes you should. That's an even better deal than I just got on mine that was a display model.

Is the 3D comparable to the 950s? Either way, can't be as bad as the horrendous 3D on the 60ES8000. I love the 3D on my 65HX950, but it is just a slight notch below the 65ES8000....but a better overall experience since I'm not staring at 5 wide vertical bands anymore.

Congrats on getting a great set at a great price. biggrin.gif

I haven't viewed 3D enough on the 950 to compare. 3D on both looks good to me, though.

3D on the 60ES8000 is definitely broken.

Thanks! Loving this TV.

I've been wanting this set for quite sometime. Just was waiting for the price to drop. But now It's a toss up for me between the 46 hx929 or the lg 47lm8600. I seen the lg and was amazed by the picture . I can't speak for dark scenes because I didnt get a chance to see that. I saw the 929 when stores had it and loved it also. I currently own a Sony 40 kdlwl140 that has never failed me for 5 yrs. Only thing that concerns me is lg's build quality. Any suggestions??

MPO the Sony is the better set, I've had my 929 46" for 17 mos with no problems or PQ changes. Everytime I turn it on it still blows me away, I also have an 46"XBR8 that I use as a reference and the 929 is easily it's equal if not a bit nicer.

Any word on a year or so old 929 and Sony's 5 year warranty? What have people done, called Sony, told them the issue, and they were offered a deal of some sort? I think I will pursue it because of uniformity, not because I want a new 950.

Well, guess I'll take a real look at it next week with my vForge. I need to test my latest CalMan workflow creation for functionality before I get pushed a new version to work with.

Absolutely blown away by the picture. Coming from a 32xbr9 it is quite the difference. Thanks for the settings IMRIIZO, looks great.

Hi guys, I have a question for any owner of a HX92x set.

I found in a store a 55HX920 at a great price. Next to it, there was a 55HX850, so I could watch them both at the same time, running the same video feed. The guy in the store was very nice, and let me customize both sets, so i put them both on Cinema 1, with backlight set to 5 as the only custom option.

So, I had them both set the same way, and was looking for any differences. My mind was set on buying the HX920, but I just wanted to make sure that I was getting a good set. Well, the HX920 looked a bit tinted green compared to the HX850 (which had a bit too much violet, I think) - the water of the sea was turquoise on it instead of blue, but I thought this could be corrected when calibrating it.

However I've noticed two other things that I'm not sure they're fine, and I would like to ask you guys if you see this on your sets as well or not. First, when the menu is displayed, the band at the bottom with the icons is not a dark black bar, with icons on it, but it's a grayish bar, with icons on it. Second, and this was what really worried me, when I tried to display the pictures menu (the TV sets were network connected, and could show files in a folder over the network), which was a small list of some four files only, I've noticed a gray vertical band, running from the top to the bottom of the screen, close to the left margin of the screen. It was quite wide, and I immediately thought this must be what people call "banding" or "crease". There were parts of the background in that menu which were black, but that band was definitely not black. Looking at the same menu on the HX850, I did not notice anything of the kind. The HX850 had a uniform colored background, there were no lighter bands and darker parts in the background. But then, the HX850 did not show any part as completely black either, the screen had a very faint glow coming from all over its surface. So, I don't know which set was looking good and which was looking bad. Maybe the background is indeed not supposed to be a uniform black area, but has a light vertical band on the left, while the rest is dark, like on the HX920, and the HX850 is just unable to show such an image and its dynamic lighting shows a uniform faint background instead? Or is the background supposed to be completely flat, with no lighter and darker areas, like how it was looking on the HX850, and the HX920 is the one that has a banding issue?

When you guys go to the pictures menu, to show some files from a USB stick, or from the network, do you happen to see a lighter vertical (and somewhat wide) band on the left of the screen ? In other words, is that normal ?

That set is on my mind but I really don't want to buy it if it's got a defect. frown.gif

I just bought a 65" one last week to replace the old 42" PDP in the living room. It is now sold with an attractive price in my country. I guess it is to flush out all stock ones. (It was about US$5000 ~ 6000 but now about US$4400. The KDL-55HX950 TW model is currently US$4000. KDL-65HX950 is unavailable yet.)

The local dimming system on KDL-65HX920 (= XBR-65HX929) is not perfect. But it is still acceptable after some adjustments are applied. I observed a slight banding on 2 vertical-bar zones near the center when there is very quick horizontal panning with unique bright colors. The same object's brightness is a little lower when it goes across that 2 mentioned vertical zones.

Another obvious local dimming bug is about the black / dark-gray grid screen with a white mouse cursor. The total local dimming zones can be observed / calculated with this method. tongue.gif

Thanks, guys. I guess the way that sample behaves is not really what I want. I think I'll end up with a HX850 instead, absolute black is not that important to me. smile.gif

Absolute (or as near as possible) Black, is what brings out the spectacular color this set is capable of.
I'm brand new to the site. I have a chance to pick up a barely used 55hx929 for $1600 is that a good price or should I pass on that and get a HX850 for about $1300

Do you think it is worth a 300 difference in price for a barely used set?

Private owner locally I will definitely look at it running first. Anything I should look for to make sure everything is ok?

Look for dead pixels and/or banding issues.

Take color slides like d-nice plasma break in slides with you on a flash drive so you can tell immediately if there are any pixel or uniformity issues.
