It also needs the right conditions to handle local dimming correctly because it's edgelit, some scenes will have nice blacks and look good.. then it'll go to another scene where there's too much brightness so the blacks turn to gray. The only way to stop this is to turn your brightness down to where the point where you are losing details in dark scenes/shadows.

I've always had a strong eye on the XBR4. I've always wanted it, but at that time, the television was selling a 46" with what we can get one now for a 60" at MSRP. So it was a luxury I couldn't afford back then. The design was obviously subjective, some loved it and some did not. I could care less if the BEZEL was as thick, since the design allowed 4 high quality speakers and 2 tweeters inside the bezel. The glass surrounding base added a touch of sophistication and class. Plus the bezel made a 46" look larger than the screen size. A 52" probably looked like a 60" in comparable size today in dimension.
My friend has a 52" XBR4 and I envy his with my Samsung 55" B650 2009 model. I understand your position, because I thought the XBR4 had a better picture than mine! Plus, if you look at pictures of my television, people make fun of the V-chin JayLeno design!

Then I got a 2010 monolithic beauty. It's nice indeed. But for the odd of me, I still want that GLASS DESIGN border w/ good speakers!!
I'll trade two 55" for your XBR4 PLEASE!!!
