Hi all,
I have a new sony tv xbr-46hx929 connected to my sony home theater set up ht-is100. I got everything else working ... but when I tried to use the built in Netflix app on the sony tv it plays the movie but does no play any sound. Everything in my setup is connected via HDMI

Note I have a ps3 connected to the same receiver and it displays to the TV both video and sound when i use the ps3 built in netflix app

Has anyone any ideas or suggestions as to whats happening here?

Try to do a software update. Home>Settings>Product support> software update.

For those in the Pa/Del/NJ area the local Sony Store at the Comcast Center has the 55Hx929 on display.

OK, I really need some help with this decision and I'd like to decide before the world ends in 2012. I'm looking for a 55" Sony LCD to replace my 52" XBR4. The TV will be used primarily for watching HDTV Uverse (not the greatest PQ IMO but lot's of channels), Xbox 360 & PS3, and the occasional Bluray. I'm considering 5 TV's and I just can't choose:

EX720 - Lowest priced out of the 5
NX720 - Lowest priced w/Gorilla Glass
HX729 - Is the local dimming on this set any good?
HX820 - Why get this when you can get a 929 for not that much more?
HX929 - Is it worth the money over the other 4 sets here???

I'm wondering how good the Gorilla Glass is? I really like the matte screen on my XBR4, I'm not sure how I feel about having a glass screen again. Even if the reflections are muted, they are still more than the matte screen. This is a tough decision. Any thoughts on the pros/cons between these sets?

Is anyone using ARC (Audio Return Channel)?

I have a single HDMI cable connecting my receiver (Marantz NR1602 w/ ARC/HDMI 1.4a) and the 929 on input HDMI 1.

No problem with source material also connected through the amp but the ARC channel doesn't seem to be handshaking properly with the receiver when using the built in apps...

For instance, if I run Hulu on the 929 it should use the return channel via HDMI to pump sound back through the receiver but it's just not working.

ARC was one of the selling points for me, hopefully someone can sort me out.

Also just wanted to add that I'm extremely happy with this TV, coming from a Samsung LN46A750 and the difference is just amazing...got a great deal rivaling many online prices at Howards if you're looking.

Happy to say many of the issues people talk about here (blooming, etc.) are either not noticeable to me or anyone else so either we lucked out with a great set or I'm not the nitpicker. Either way I'm immensely enjoying this new set and looking forward to getting this ARC issue sorted out so I can sit back and just enjoy the heck out of it.

Anyone ca tell me:Can the input lag be better on nx720 than on HX920? I'm tired to compare these two TV's!
And wat about 3D? Does the DigitalVersus review tell the true about 3d on HX920?

My arc has worked perfectly. Might want to try different cable, or see if your receiver can have firm ware updated.

Make sure HDMI control is turned on for your receiver. I know on mine it's off by default. I'm using the ARC feature as well with everything outputting through my receiver on HDMI 1. When launching Netflix, Amazon, etc my receiver switches to TV and the sound is output through receiver accordingly. Also when I turn off receiver it automatically switches to TV speakers.

So i'm having some slight A/V sync issues... I enabled HDMI Audio Sync but doesn't seem to help. Does HDMI Control need to be enabled for both TV and receiver for this feature to work?

Seems like a delay of 40-70ms is needed on audio to compensate for the delay of the TV/Receiver's upscaling/processing.. but varies based on codecs. I've never been able to get HDMI Audio Sync to work.

Not sure about this one, never had to use the audio sync feature on my receiver. I believe mine is on it's default setting which is either off or 0. Sorry I could not be more help. I do know HDMI control should be on for both for ARC to work

I am having the same problem but with Netflix, I plug my hdmi into the ARC HDMI port and everything from my receiver where I have connected my media server , cable box and ps3 routes fine to the TV but when using the Netflix app from the TV it does not route the sound back to the receiver ...

** could it be my HDMI cable? do I need a certain level of certification for my HDMI cable?

Insidious, thats the first thing i did when I got my TV yesterday was to run the software update.

I wonder if I need a hdmi cable certified for a higher hdmi standard? I am using the ARC hdmi port aka HDMI1

It may not matter unless you're receiving 3D content on your TV; then you would need the new HDMI 1.4 (not 1.3) cables. If I had a 3D TV, I'd go 1.4 just to be safe.

I turned off Control HDMI as I did not want the bravia sync to happen. I have a sony receiver and it keeps "auto discovering" the TV controls and its messing with my Harmony 1100 setup.

Anyone know how I can turn of Bravia Sync as I do not wish to use it.

This is fairly simple to do on the TV, unfortunately I am not home but I believe its done from preferences under HDMI settings or something. I know I had to turn off some (NOT ALL) of these control settings on the TV. Auto turn off and auto turn on I turned off because for example whenever I wanted to listen to music with my playstation and receiver my TV would automatically turn on. So I turned off auto turn on or something. I can check when I get home but I'm sure someone else on here can help

To me there is only one choice out of what you listed. All the other units will suffer from un-uniform screen, flashlighting, banding, more motion blur, poor black levels, and probably more. These are the types of things a person will see when comparing slower refesh rated edge lit LEDs to a faster refreshing local dimming LED.

Hey bud,

There's a couple models on sonystyle.ca. They both state hx909 compatibly. One has speakers and the other one doesn't mention any speakers. Both are 99$.
Which one is the correct one for the Hx929.

Thanks in advance.

Sucks for them. Looks like they have local dimming off and the backlight jacked.
