Auto 1 and motionflow for gaming shouldn't be enabled. You should be getting some pretty hefty input lag. Try game mode, it disables those features completely. You should have none of those features on for gaming.
You get 30-50ms input lag in game mode. You get about 108ms in normal mode. Tested using my RB2 calibration guitar. Game mode supports local dimming just like normal mode, assuming you are in the right game mode. Motion processing isn't made for gaming. I assume you actually calibrated your "Game" scene settings? The defaults are awful. I flip through them and theres pretty much no difference between game and cinema, PQ wise. On top of that, motion blur is built in to most games, when you get motion processing alongside motion blur.. it just doesn't look right. Those features are not designed for gaming.
If you can't detect 108ms input lag, than all I can say is "wow". To each his own I guess. Connect a PC up to the TV and you will see the HUGE difference between game mode and cinema/general mode in terms of input lag.
I know for a fact the rock band test is NOT accurate for input lag. You would need to have both a crt and the tv, a pc hooked up to both of them and run at the same resolution using a stop watch program and take a picture at a certain shutter speed to tell the input lag difference.
As for the motionflow.... you have to be kidding me. You are saying that you prefer playing games with 300 lines of motion resolution vs 1200?? That makes NO sense to me. The fact is I would deal with the input lag over blur that lcds normally have.
I have a pc hooked up running at 1080p, and lag is less with a 1080p native screen, plus using wired controller helps too. I have yet to meet anyone in person who has issues with any tv with input lag. I know the internet it seems to be a hot topic but just like my issue with dse no one in "real" life knows what either is.
Anyway, I did setup game mode correctly, as yes the default looks pretty gross. Overall game mode is a blurred mess b/c there is no motion flow, clear 1 emulates how a crt displayed the frames, how can this be worse then 300 lines of motion resolution?? I just don't get it.
Please show me where someone did input lag test on the Sony that did it correctly and not with the rock band test. If not, saying it has over 100ms of input lag in custom is just pure guessing.
I don't mean to come off abrasive and I apologize if I do but this tv with out motion flow clear 1 and local dimming standard, its no better then a $1500 lcd, why gimp it?? You paid for it, and gaming looks incredible with custom, its just not worth going to game mode for some un numbered game lag. The tv in custom has about the same input lag as the Pioneer plasmas, so were those bad too for lag? I guess I dont get :/
Also game modes local dimming isn't near as good as custom/cinema mode.
