Which way do the tv speakers face? To the rear as on the Samsung? Or towards the front on that larger bit of bottom bezel?

Thanks

Jim

Part 6 = win. I see no blooming, blacks are pretty much as black as they can get even in a pitch black room. This TV looks amazing based on those videos.

I'm definitely buying this TV.

My only concern is PC Mode.

You're not going to wait until the 2011 LG 9500 comes out before you decide?

I sold my old TV when I bought my D8000. Now i'm returning my D8000. LG is likely a few months away, i'd be without a TV in my main room.

I've also seen many LGs that look good on paper, but i've never seen one that impresses me in person. /shrug

It seems like everytime I try a different brand I end up returning it and going back to Sony... to me it just feels like they have better all around pictures than the other brands. Maybe it's just bad luck with the TV's I decide to buy.

Hey everyone, I am going to take down videos 1-5 and do new videos like no 6. Anything in particular you want to see?
I am so tempted but I really need to wait until more people get it. Is there only one person in this thread who actually owns it?

so the viewing angles are not an issue?...weren't the angles on the HX909 really bad?

I would like to see a really dark blu ray movie like dark knight or any you may have and see how the black levels are. Make sure they are no floating blacks, etc. Thanks

In my case I can afford to wait until later in the year. I'm looking at this Sony, the LG LW9500 and the Panny VT30. I'm not a fanboy of any company and truly hope that all three of them rock.

I'll just sit back and read all the reviews for them and pick the set that is "right" for me.

Do you have a Netflix subscription? Like to see how the tv handles streaming video...
Thanks!

Nick, if you have time, could you include in your next video showing the web browser on the 929 and whether it's easy or a pita to use without a qwerty remote?

Shadow detailing is another story.

Locdim blacks considerations makes sense only in conjuction with blooming and halo effects both in direct and off angle viewing. When LEDs in any zone are switched off it has black hole blacks. But when there is small object inside the zone, its surrounding will also get illuminated. It requires delicate massaging of zone backlight to have this in balance. The question is how precisely is this implemented in the 929.

Issues still requiring reliable info are:
- viewing angle, improvement over 909 or not?
- color/grey reproduction in calibrated set
- can clouding be reduced with backlight settings?

Jim, the speakers are actually on bottom of the panel.

Maybe Doug Blackburn will review this set, since he did such a service with his 909 review. CNET will probably compare blacks on this with a Kuro, a 909 and some other sets, but that review could be 2-3 months from now.

Seems like the 500m Kuro is the black level champ, but if the 929 could hit that performance- and the 909 almost does, the 929 would be the next set I would purchase.

A 2012 Panasonic isn't going to get blacks better than a 500m.

Hope Doug Blackburn gets to review this New 929 unit.
It would be for any manufactures to get the Gold Star & or 5 Star on the Product with some of the Best Calibrators. We are Lucky some of the Best landed here on AVS.

Hi Nick

I dug through the online manuals and they don't show the speaker location at all.

So the speakers fire downward?

I ask because our TV will be in a wall furniture unit. I envy your table top situation. Ours has plenty of airflow but it makes for lousy sound if the speakers aren't forward facing as the ones we currently have on our ailing Mitsu RPTV.

I suspected this would be a problem for all of the LCD units that are coming now and I've upgraded my speaker system but not yet procured a center speaker until I test.

Watched your vids last night. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Jim

most, if not all of the current tvs with small bezels, have speakers at the bottom as theres no where else to put them.

Anyway to fix the black bars and make the picture bigger? Seems like you are holding the camera the wrong way.

Some real 720p footage would be nice.

1) He showed viewing angles in the video, and it looked good to me.
3) 2 people have the set that I know of, both claimed some flashlighting in the corners, and both have said at one point that clouding seems to have been reduced. 2/10 or 3/10 backlight seems like the way to go on the set. I've also noticed that after about 200hrs any flashlighting is greatly reduced on any LED TV. I see no noticable flashlighting on his videos, at all. I don't think uniformity/flashlighting/banding/blooming/viewing angles are an issue on this set judging by his videos.

@Nickthenewkid24

Maybe it was his camera or the settings on the tv. The shadow detail on harry potter was off in his video. The scene where he summoned light (1:06) into the video, everything was totally black except the light itself. I've compared the scene and some of the background sound be absolute black while the rest should be slightly illuminated. I would have to see this set in person or see a higher resolution posted video to really see how the picture looks. Thanks for the video post.

if you go full screen you can see reflection in water and slight illumination in other spots. but yeah you are correct the video does not show the illumination effect fully when i actually view with my own eyes. sorry for not having the best video equipment, but hopefully it gives everyone an idea on the television set. also new videos are uploading now that basically replaces yesterdays horrible ones taken from my phone in vertical position.....

Can you make a video about input lag? Do input lag test or just hold a controller in front of a camera (between cam and tv) and tilt right stick.
For example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f6n7HvP2QE
In game mode and standart, pleeeease^^

How is the heat output on this series? I'm really considering moving from plasma to an LED LCD for the simple fact that during the summer the plasma TV heats up my upstairs TV room a lot. It's nice for heat during the winter, but really annoying when its 95 degrees out.

seriously almost nothing at all. I have had mine on for 3 hours and I can feel a little warmth on backside. have to touch screen on front to feel anything at all which is not much either.
