Placed my order for the 110 yesterday.

Good points. Thanks for the feedback!

Alternately, and a huge plus for this player IMO, is that the composite video out works concurrently with HDMI ... If I just want Pandora, I turn on the player and the LCD and am good to go.

Ahh, very good. Appreciate the detailed responses here. Great tip, I will arrange the menu as suggested. I'll see how this goes and perhaps dig up a composite video device from craigslist or something in the future to augment playback. Our SXRD TV also takes about a minute before a readable picture displays so this option might be nice.

Yes, it could because that's how it sync with your 3D glasses, through IR.

Normally plasma TVs emit more IR noise than other TVs. I now found out that my GT25 TV emitts much more than the previous Panasonic TV I owned. I didn't have the remote issue but my wireless IR headphones get screwed up.

Does the remote for the 110 not support volume control for your AVR like the remotes for the 85 and 350 do?

Is there any way else to make region free on dvds?

Cheers!

Since you are in Europe, the simple region free remote hack will work fine. It's been the same on all panasonics for years. Just get yourself a one-for-all remote or some other remote made by UEI that has a Setup, Set, P, S or Magic button.

Unlike past remotes, the 110/210/310 is not universal. It only works with panasonic devices. I was disappointed to learn this as well. But a real universal remote is a much better solution anyway.

Amazon finally has the BDT310 back in stock.

the only thing that boggles me is that my BD player is in the closet, so when I went over and shot the remote right at the thing, it still took many presses.

Well. what did I expect? My Harmony One (which controls my living room, 110 is in the BR) cost me more than the whole 110 package did. Still, I wonder why Panasonic went through the trouble to redesign their remotes. Seems to me that was more expensive than just keeping what they had, especially since a good chunk of users don't depend on the TV for sound.

If you really like the panasonic remote, since all panasonics use the same codes, you can easily use an older panasonic remote you may already have. You'd gain volume control, but lose some of the newer commands like netflix, skype, and 3D. The remote for last year's BD65 is universal and at least includes viera cast. Personally I mostly use JP1 remotes which range in cost from $0 - $15. They can control absolutely every function from the original panasonic as well as volume punch thru and activity macros like harmony.

Finally was able to play with the 110 last night after getting it for free with a 55GT30. Waiting on my avatar starter kit and 3d glasses so just put in a blu-ray or 2 to see that it worked. Really like it. Seems to be faster than my oppo 83 blu-ray player (which I need to sell somehow) so thats good. I'm amazed at how skinny it is!

So I recieved my 210 last night and was wondering how to get my receiver to do the audio decoding at the highest sampling rate.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR876. I have had an older PS3 that would not bitstream the content to the receiver to decode. I just want to let the Onkyo do some work for a while.

I put in Avatar which is DTS-MA and at first the Onkyo would only render DTS. I changed a setting on the 210 (don't remember what audio setting it was) and got the receiver to render DTS-MA, but at only 48khz. I thought DTS-MA was 192khz. Maybe I am just going crazy and the numbers are confusing me.

My question is...what settings do I use to get the highest fidelity audio with the receiver doing the decoding? I have the 210 hooked up to the receiver with an HDMI cable and have 5.1 setup in the room.

Yeah, I could still use the older remote, but I plan on unloading that player at some point. Or I might just decide that the advances in the 110 for the online services aren't needed and return the 110 since it's hooked up to a panel that doesn't do 3D. I was definitely disappointed that Panasonic has not upgraded its amazon.com app, which still lacks VCR buttons. The amazon.com app in my LG display in the living room has them.

Has anyone had any issues with Blu Rays freezing or stuttering? I am upgrading from a Samsung C6500 that had this really annoying issue with lots of Blu Ray discs to the 210, and it's my hope that it won't have this issue at all.

I have had absolutely no issues playing BluRay discs on my 110 (including some visibly scratched Netflix discs).

For digital audio out, select bitstream. Two channels - 192 kHz...multichannel - 96 kHz.

Make sure you turn PCM down conversion to off. With it on you get 48 kHz.

Awesome, thanks. The instuction manual is a bit vague on this, thank for clearing this up. I must have PCM downconversion on.

What about the clean sound option (I forget the actual name), is that beneficial for bitstream?

Are there any Panasonic remotes that have a 'subtitle' button that would work with this player? That's one thing that really annoys me about this player, not being able to turn subtitles on and off quickly and easily.

That's only used when you're connected directly to the TV. You're going through your Onkyo, so leave it off.

Not in the last 2 generations....many a complaint has aired in AVS.

I always shake my head at things like this, when you LOSE functionality in newer products (seemed to happen a lot with cell phones too). When I ordered my TV from Amazon a couple years ago, they threw in a cheap-o DVD player for free, which actually has a subtitle button.

In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, "what were they THINKING????"

(That being said, I absolutely love my 110, and the lack of a subtitle button is seriously my biggest complaint. I recommend this player to everyone).

Meanwhile, the NetFlix button is absolutely useless to a person with an Amazon Prime account and a Redbox machine a 5 minute walk away...

This would describe me (Prime member, Redboxes in front of the Ralph's 3 blocks away) and yet I do use Netflix. Go figure .

The video Skype button is worthless to me and probably worthless to the vast majority of owners. Netflix, on the other hand, is extremely popular. The only remote that I ever use is my trusty Harmony One (currently controls TV, TiVo, PC, Xbox, PS3, BDT110 and Onkyo AVR and my air conditioner) but a discrete code to turn on subs/captions would be nice.

I can't get John Rambo Extended Cut to work with 7.1 with my 210. The sound also drops in and out. If some one has the Blu-ray and a 210 can you tell me if this happens with your 210, or 110/310.

I remember from your first post that you had tried "bypassing the Denon and connecting directly to the Sony tv" and still no audio from the streaming apps. That's what made it sound similar to the issues I was having.

Do you know what later made it work when you connect directly to the TV?

I ask because, even with your added complexity of the AVR, this sounds somewhat similar to my audio problems (Pandora, YouTube and navigation dings) connecting directly to the TV.

As I've said before, I think there is a bug in the Panny's processing of Secondary Audio and PCM conversion: With all the different combinations of settings AND the HDMI handshake of various TVs/AVRs with different HDMI versions and capabilities, it sometimes disables audio by mistake.

Since I am finding that it ONLY does it when YCbCr 4:4:4 AND Deep Color are enabled (none of which should have any effect on audio) I am thinking there could be a mixup in the General Control Packets send to the TV/AVR: These packets control Color Depth as well as Audio muting...

So I'll be most interested in the outcome of your work with Panasonic. If your case can get them to actually look at this code (I had no success in that regard), they might discover a bug that causes all kinds of erratic HDMI behavior.

I'm giving up.

I tried EVERY combination of settings on the BDT210 and the Denon AVR888, new HDMI cable, digital fiber cable, analog cables, etc. Nothing works.

I returned the Panasonic and replaced it with a Samsung BD-D5700.... IDENTICAL PROBLEMS! So I spoke to Denon tech support for a third time. According to them "It should work."

I'm returning the Samsung tomorrow and buying a book on shadow puppets.

I hooked-up my 110 today; so far so great. I have a few questions and hope to find some help:
1) Is there any way to use this as a CD transport or play the internet radio with the TV off? I have a Panny plasma, and eveytime I turn off the TV the Blu Ray turns off, too.
2) In the HDMI settings there are many options for video output; I have it set for RBG standard right now, but has anyone tried the others? Which offers the best picture?
3) Perhaps a concise version of this post would be what would be the correct settings for best picture and sound? I realize that the answers are probably here somewhere, but there are ~60 pages to wade through to find the answers. I'll do it if I must.
4) Is Amazon HD in 5.1? I haven't tried the Netflix yet, but my fingers are crossed.

Thanks to all!!!

The subtitle function from older remotes does work, sort of. It brings up the pop-up where you can toggle subtitles, which is the same as the Display function (or Status. I forget exactly which one). I just use a macro to do it with one button press.

Try turning off VieraLink. The (simplistic) logic may be that if you can't see anything, you probably want to turn off the player, too.

I just bought myself a 50ST30 Plasma (which comes with wi-fi dongle) so my question is - do I need to buy 210 or 310 over 110? I can just use my TV to connect to netflix and my dnla server.

I have quite a few movies on my HDD, the TV should be able to stream them right? So, is there a need for a DVD player which has in built wifi?
Watched my first streamed Netflix movie (Fish Tank) last night on my new 310. I had 6-8 flickers with no sound problems. Those flickers were extremely quick and weren’t a distraction, which is surprising because I’m finicky about things like that. Obviously, I’d prefer they weren’t there. Considering this movie was an IFC production, which meant it was 4:3, I was very pleased with the PQ and SQ. The 310 is connected to my Marantz 7002, then to my 2003 plasma. Internet connection is with Century link @3.0 Mbps. I’m thinking I may bump up to 10.0 Mbps.
