I don't know--perhaps I expect too much. Others have stated that they're impressed with it and they presumably watch DVDs often, or at least more often than me. It'd had been years since I last watched a DVD before looking at a few while checking out the BDT110's upconversion.

When outputting 24p via HDMI, the player disables analog audio outs. You have 2 choices: either disable 24p output, or do what I did, which was to buy a ditigal to analog converter (see link) to connect to my analog preamp.

I compare it to my older Oppo, Bluray and HD in general. It could just be the difference in displays, I'm impressed with my Mits 73" and how it upconverts SD. Dunno

There are several on this thread who have said it is equal to or better than the current Oppo. My daughter was watching Sweeney Todd on DVD....looked like a hell of a picture to me.

Any other perceptions, cautions, and comparisions that you'd care to make, I would be interested in reading.

Thanks.

MKard

I was very impressed with the PQ on my DVD copy of the LOTR Trilogy. The colors are richer and the blacks deeper than on my previous Sony DVD player (which was a good model, connected via component cable). The same was true for a number of my other favorite DVDs that I sampled; their PQ definitely surpassed that of a 480i DVD player. Perhaps the best comparison was "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1": We have the Blu-ray combo pack, and the PQ of the DVD looks quite good compared to the Blu-ray. The big difference though was in the Blu-ray's sound -- the DTS-HD MA clearly shines over the DVD's Dolby Digital.

Note that I have the Detail Clarity off and Super Resolution set to 1. I have noticed on DVDs that if you jack up the Super Resolution, you can notice a very slight graininess on DVDs. Going to off or 0 (cannot remember which) on Super Resolution does leave a DVD image just a wee bit fuzzy. I cannot see any effect from Detail Clarity, so I just left it off.

How do you guys set your HDMI video out? Do you keep it in auto? Mine shows that all modes available with my TV and I set it to 1080p, so here is a problem begins - when I watch a movie it is fine but when player goes back to home screen the screen flashes and my receiver showing input drop offs. I had a situation like this before, and I used a reset from user guide which resets the image distortion, but now after update to 1.68 there is no such a reset. Any ideas?

I set mine to 1080p. The HDMI input routes thru my Yamaha YHT-S400 soundbar system, and I verified that my LG TV is receiving 1080/60p for all output save for BD movies, which arrive as 1080/24p at the TV.

As you probably know, an instantaneous "flash" or flicker will occur when shifting between 60fps and 24fps, but when I go from a BD movie back to the home screen, I don't notice anything unusual. Is your home screen continuing to flash and be distorted?

Yes it is flashes in a home menu. The strange is started when I just bought it 2 weeks ago and connected to internet. It was asking to install an update 1.65, so I did. After update player started to flash and some times showing snow noise. I did a reset procedure from users manual >RET 00 > 04 which actualy helped very well. Unit was stable in image, but other problem appeared - no more correct bitstream. So panasonic rep recomended to do reset RET00 > 08fin, so I did. Now it bitstreams just fine, but I have flashes back again. And more over no 04 reset anymore. I changed cables I use HDMI high speed (3D ready deep color) I did update to 1.68 still no luck. Reset it several times. So now it showing movie no fkashes, but home screen imposible to see.

thanks for the info BillP. How does the audio end up sounding throug this (since it's optical audio being converted to analog L/R), compared to the normal L/R analog audio jacks?

Anyone here in the U.S. using the enhanced firmware from firmwareinfo dotcom? I'm looking for the path of least resistance to get my 210 playing region B titles.

I accidentally ordered the LG670 and the Panny BDT210. I attempted to cancel the order of one of the models, but was too late. Both models were delivered yesterday and I plan to return one of them. I've read all the posts of the two forums pertaining to each model. Since I don't want to open the box and setup each player, I wanted to get opinions on which player to keep. I know that this is a "pro" Panny forum, but I just want honest opinions on owner's likes and dislikes of their BDT210. Thank you!

I beleive that if you read some of the early pages in this tread. you will find your answer. having said that. it seems that most people like the player. they are mostly annoyed with the black out on the netflix. it could be only certain movies.

It only happens if bandwidth on your connection to Netflix's servers waivers, as it dynamically switches to lower and higher bit rate encoding to compensate. Some people never see it, because they always have at least the highest necessary amount of bandwidth available on their connection and it never dips below that.

I have a question to ask about the 210. I am looking for a device that will get Netflix HD and 5.1 ,
Vudu XHD ,and Amazon HD. Will the 210 get all of these.I went to the Pansonic site but could not
find the apps. Does the 210 pass undecoded sound to my Maranz.

Thank You

Thanks to michaeltscott, Colour, and MTSIndy for the SD-DVD PQ feedback. It was helpful to put it all in context.

Sounds like one of these Panny's will suit. Now, I've just got to find a 310 at an affordable price.

Enjoy your stuff!

Just a note to what you want. I recently emailed Amazon Instant Video tech support department (required basically level 2 to get real knowledge) and they said the only devices that can get Amazon @ 1080p was the Roku 2 and Sammy BD Player (which doesn't even have a Amazon App as of today? Lol ).

I am looking for the same as you, but I want 1080p/5.1 for all 3 also. Seems as of now, this line of BD players is the closest, but limiting Amazon to 720p.

If Roku would just add Vudu, I'd be in heaven. (as long as I was on of the few who didn't have issues in some manner.)

I'm fairly certain that Amazon doesn't offer 1080p. Their 720p is pretty damn crispy considering that it averages about 2.6 Mbps.

I have been reading they are now. Im not saying thats true and I have no way to test, but its what im reading. I actually got a response from someone who seemed tech savvy, from the Amazon Instant Video department and confirmed the Roku 2 does get some 1080p content and the App they made for Samsung (which isnt even on their Samsung Marketplace yet) also can get 1080p streams. From Amazon.

Do you have region free abilities on yours? I know we used to talk import titles often, what are you using to play those B locked ones?

I own both the 210 and the Sony S570 and the Sony is leaps and bounds better at streaming Netflix if that helps.

Nickff,
Can the Sony S570 do 5.1 with netflix & Vudu 5.1+in the audio department thanks.

They have had 1080p for a long time. It was limited to the Tivo though IIRC. I was buying episodes of Stargate Universe when I would miss them do to other shows recording. So thats a few years at least. But it wasnt the free stuff from Prime, just stating they have streamed 1080p for a while.

It sounds fine to me, but note that I have an analog 2-channel system (amp + pre-amp).

They have 1080i (not p), and as you say, only on the TiVo and TiVo does not stream Amazon, only download it (why you can't use TiVo to watch no-extra-charge Prime Eligible Amazon video).

I just watched Limitless from Amazon which played in stereo sound. The description at amazon states it's 5.1 sound. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Hi,
I'm trying to connect my BD110 to my PC (Vista). I read confusing information that DLNA works only with Win Media plater 12 (not available for Vista). But I also read teh Vista is supported for BD110. So which one is true. Can I connect my PC to BD110. When I tried it said "cannot find....". My Sony Laptop is DLNA certified which was able to connect to my Denon 3310CI (DLNA) very well. I was expecting BD110 to function as well. Please help. The user manual is totally useless. I tried emailing the Panny support (with above question) and got the standard response that I need to call them to provide further information. I don't even understand why a DLNA certified is depended on PC OS (Vista/7) and on top of the Server (WM 12)? As long as I have a DLNA server running on network it should sniff and get it correct? that's the whole idea of DLNA.

Can anyone help. Has anyone tried connecting 110 to Vista PC? If so please let me know what steps. Do i need to setup the network folder individually with ip address and folder path (that would be lame).

thanks.

I know that the 210 will stream HD 5.1 titles from Netflix, though they are still relatively few in number. Haven't used Vudu or Amazon.

Also, the 210 will pass bitstream audio (undecoded Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc.) to your receiver and let the receiver decode. Or if you wish, the 210 can send decoded, multi-channel PCM, up to and including 7.1.
NF does stream 5.1 with certain titles. Michaelscott has taken the time to create a nice list of titles. VUDU streams 5.1 DD+.

I didn't even know that Netflix could stream 5.1, but now that I do...

I was able to get the 210 to stream 5.1, but I don't think the s570 does.

I have never used Vudu.

Hi Nickff!

Looks like we're only a few dozen miles apart: I'm in Fishers, IN.

I have a question was about your Sony S570. When I was researching Blu-ray players, the consistent comment that I found about the Sony S4xx and S5xx series was that people were having problems with Netflix streaming. Had it not been for those comments, I may have gone with Sony over Panasonic. Not that I am unhappy in the least with my 110, especially since I got it for $116 at BB, realizing my U-verse boxes all have live RJ-45 network jacks for pass-thru internet. So what does your S570 have over your 210 in terms of streaming? Just curious....
