Yes I am. But I don't care because my 10 y/o amp doesn't have HDMI anyway. So everybody who bitstreams over optical should just leave it on. Everybody else can turn it on only when needed for PIP/Commentary.

When I said 'loss bitstream capability', I meant you can no longer get original TrueHD or DTS-MA audio regardless you have PIP on or off. You will always get a lossy audio track.

Hello,

Last night was the very first time using our new BDT-210. I popped in Saving Private Ryan on blu ray and about 30 minutes into it, we started to experience audio hiccups accompanied by video glitches. I can describe the video glitches as quick, white flashes or a scrambled picture, 1-2 seconds long. They happened frequently from then on, one lasted for 30 seconds while the screen went totally black, with no sound.

Here is my equipment.

Panasonic ST30
Denon AVR-1612 receiver
BDT-210

I am using high speed hdmi cables from monoprice / blue jeans for everything except the connection from blu ray to AVR. For that connection, its a $50 monster hi speed cable from best buy.

Any thoughts on what to try? All settings on the new blu ray player are default.

I did notice a setting related to 24p on the blu ray but have not tried it yet.

Thanks in advance

Is it just the one disc or does it happen with others?

Go into BD player settings and turn deep color to OFF. I was having a similar problem using the same Denon and an ST30. Mine was only happening on non-24P material, like bonus features.

So far, thats the only disc we tried. I know this movie was re-called last year for lip-sync issues but what I experienced is much worse.

I will try another movie asap..

BTW, is your BD player set to 24p?

Not that I've noticed.

Hey Guys

Got an odd one for you, I've had a BDT210 for 6 months or so now and am generally very happy with it, however I've got one small nitpick with it and wondered if anyone had any ideas/solutions.

When watching this player at 24hz its fine/great, no issues whatsoever.

But if i turn off 24hz and let it play at 60hz, the A/V sync is very slighty off.

We arent talking huge amounts where movies look badly dubbed. Its just a TINY fraction, but enough for it to seem like voices arent quite connected to people on screen.

Im probably just being overly anal, but i notice it enough to not use the 60hz setting. (I'm aware of the arguments about 24hz vs 60hz but I'd just like the option without audio compromise)

Im running the player via HDMI 1.4 (nice and fast) into (3d enabled) Yamaha RX-V667 to a Panasonic 50VT30 exactly as i did my old Sony BDP-S570 which ran in 24hz and 60hz wihout any audio sync issues in either mode.

So as far as I can tell, the issue is somewhere on the player rather than on the Reciever as another player of similar spec did not present the issue.

Any ideas? Has anybody else experienced this?

Maybe im just being anal about the 60hz sync as it VERY minor, but the A/V sync is perfect in 24hz mode so Im struggling to understand why the lower setting is causing an issue.

Cheers Guys

Don't know the cause, but you can adjust it out in the Audio settings on the player.
@mdavej

Thanks for quick reply

What do you refer to? the audio delay?

I tried doing that through the reciever but I think the audio from the player is playing AHEAD of the video in 60hz mode, so adjusting (increasing) the delay only increases the problem....the Reciever has no option to reduce the delay below 0ms.

I havent checked the player but I imagine its the same.]

EDIT:

Maybe I meant audio is playing BEHIND the Video therefore increasing the delay makes the problem worse.

Oh, I know what i mean :-p
Yes, the audio delay in the player. If it's ahead like you say, then increasing the audio delay in the player will do the trick.

Now I'v confused myself, but i know what i mean.... :-)

In that case, I don't know what to do. Sorry. At least report it to panasonic and maybe they will eventually fix it.

its was coming frequently like this . today its just disappear again . dont know what to do - any help much appreciated

It has to connect to the Viera Cast/Connect servers to populate the icons. If you don't connect, no icons. It seems you have a network problem.
I have a friend that just bought the 210. What is the latest firmware? I see 1.70 in some postings here but on the Panasonic website, it shows 1.68 (which is what came in the player.) A network connection is not available, so the only way to update for this player is by disk...

TIA
You're right about their site only having 1.68 for some reason. We got 1.70 via network here in Canada so try and download that.

Thanks for the info! Grabbing it now!

So I am trying to play movies off my USB flash drive, but cannot seem to do so. I converted a movie I downloaded to .MKV format using any video converter. When I try to watch in on my Panny BD210 it says it cannot play this movie.

What do I need to do?

Accessing a local drive is different than accessing the internet. You only need a local connection to access other computers in your network.

Hi all, I just bought and setup my new Panasonic DMP-BDT210. I bought this player because I read reviews that stated how this was the fasted loading Blu-ray player on the market and since that was something that always turned me off with Blu-ray I figured I would pick one up and see if it lives up the review hype.

I noticed something strange when we were watching our first disk and hit the internet to see if I could find a solution. I found this thread on the AVS forums and started reading about everyone else's experience with these players to see if I could find an answer. Unfortunately I don't have the time to read all 206 pages of this thread and when I searched for threads talking about the issue I didn't get any results.

Here's what happened. We sat down to watch the B.T.T.F. 25th Anniversary disks and started with some of the special features. We paused the disk to take care of something and when we came back the Play button didn't start the playback right away so I stopped the disk and started it up again.

We navigated back into the same special feature we had been watching and then fast forwarded to the spot we left off at. When I pressed Play to stop the fast forward and start playback again the video started playing but there was no audio.

I stopped the disk again and restarted it. Again the intro played with full sound and we navigated to the special feature. We started the special feature and it had full sound again. I fast forwarded one level and pressed Play. While it was fast forwarding the sound was playing over the sped up video and when I pressed Play it went back to normal. I then fast forwarded two levels and pressed Play. While it was fast forwarding there was no sound playing over the sped up video and when I pressed Play the sound did not come back.

So to sum it up, it seems like fast forwarding higher than one level of fast forward speed kills the audio.

This has never happened with any of the other AV equipment (Xbox360, RCA DVD player, etc) we have hooked up so I don't think it's my AV receiver or setup that is causing this to happen.

Any thoughts?

Additionally, I am used to DVD players that restart the video where you left off if you stop the video, turn off the player, come back later and start playing the video again. This doesn't seem to be how the Panasonic player behaves by default. Am I just not up to date on how current players behave (admittedly it has been quite a few years since I bought any new players) or is there something different about this player?

I appreciate any and all feedback that anyone can offer.

Thanks In Advance

If the screen saver kicks in with a BD disc you have to use the PopUp menu to restart play. The Panasonic's play audio on the 1st level of FF that is a feature not found on any other player. Whether a Blu-ray resumes playback after stopping or turning off depends on how it is authored. DVD's will resume playback as long as you don't eject the disc. The resume playback of BD's is the same for all players, not just Panasonic.

It has been my experience that the screen saver (dimming of picture) does not occur during pause but only during the Home screen of the 210. This was one of my only qualms with this player.

moxie1617- Thanks for the very quick reply and answers.
-I will try using the PopUp menu button the next time I press pause and walk away for a little bit. Thanks.

-Regarding Audio on fast forward, I do like hearing the audio while I fast forward on 1st level so that's a good feature with this player, however that doesn't explain why I have no audio when I go faster than 1st level and then return to regular Play.

-It seems to me like BD's have taken a step backwards in consumer usability by not restarting at the same place when you leave a disk in, turn off the machine and then come back to it later. Anyone have any idea why this feature was taken away from us?

steve ans - There was definitely a "holding" screen of some sort that wasn't the movie when we returned to the player and the image wasn't dimmed. Is dimming the picture a typical screen saver on BD players?

###UPDATE###

In case anyone is interested.. My glitches are gone and playback is flawless!! I simply changed the 24p setting in the player to 'on'. The ST30 was already set to 24p 60HZ..

That was it, nothing else was changed..

Thanks..
