I'd never sell my copy. Avatar was one of the reasons I added a stand alone BD player in addition to my PS3.

It's four per address (households) if you want to sell a few copies.

And yet many of us did, and as Charles R. suggests several people have reported buying players and selling both the player and disc separately for pure profit . The money I got from selling it reduced the effective price of my player to $40; others bought their players even cheaper and the sale of the disc made them cost nearly nothing. I have no doubt that if I wanted the 3D version of the film I can buy it when it ships to retail for less than half that I got selling it when it wasn't generally available.

I sold three and kept one, but will probably sell that one eventually.
I don't own a 3D television and won't be buying one in the future unless I have to in order to get some other major feature(s) that I want. As such the disc had no value for me at all since I already owned a 2D copy.

Found the following over at dvdtalk. Its a supposed hack to make some panny blu ray players play other region blu rays. Could someone here try it with one of these models to see if it indeed works. Thanks

All the information I have found on the internet has indicated that this player can only play Region B and C discs with a mod chip, with no remote solutions available. This is not the case!

All you need to do is load up the disc. When the message pops up that says the disc will only play in a Region B or C player pops up, press "stop" on the remote control. Then press "1" on the remote, followed by "enter." This will bypass the message and load up the disc to play normally.

Hard to believe that there's such a simple solution available. I'm assuming this works on the DMP-BD80 as well and possibly other Panasonic player.

Tacos, I read that at DVDTalk as well and it works on my DMP BDT100. I was able to play the Studio Canal Mulholland Dr. disc. When the disc loaded and the region error screen played, I hit stop and it did not initially seem to work. However after the "wrong region" message played all the way through my machine reverted to the Panny menu and I pressed 1 and enter and the film started. Thanks to LosingMyMind @ DVDTalk for this. To hell with enhanced firmware.

Great Movie...rebellious that David Lynch refused to include chapters. Sorry. OT

What firmware was installed on the player? There was just a recent software upgrade pushed to my player and TV last week. Does anybody know if this trick still works after the latest software update. I am at work so I cannot test. I will try this when I get home. I have an Enya music video disk that is in Pal format. Maybe it will work.

Tested on a BDT110 and it did not work (as far as I can see). The "wrong region" message is a static one and it does not revert to the Panasonic menu (at least not within several minutes). By "enter" I assume that the "OK" button is meant.

Just set up a bdt110p, wired connect to the home network, computer sees the player, but the player says cannot find device in the dlna server.. What am I missing? The drive is shared and the Mac sees it,as well as a dell. Thanks for help in advance
post #6883 of 8308
Tried it on my 85 and 65 and did not work

I am in the market for 3D BD player. My two expectation is Netflix and able to connect my USB hard drive to watch MKV files. Is this possible with 210?

DLNA doesn't show shared drives. You need DLNA server on the PC. If you are running any Windows PCs, they have DLNA servers built-in but you probably need to share them out in media/stream sharing settings.

If you just want to connect to the shared network drive, you need to use Network drive function, not DLNA.

Purchase another 210 yesterday, the firmware says 1.70. Is that the most up to date?

Ok so I'm missing server software should not be a problem to scare that up

No--1.8 is the latest.

How about just search the thread. 80% of the posts here are about Netflix and MKVs, or questions about Netflix and MKV.

I actually did.

Some say yes, some say no. Some say yes to below 4GB, some say Netflix sucks.

It sounds like a crapshoot unless you have an opinion.

The posts are correct. It is a crapshoot.

That's because you looked for a quick yes/no answer, and there's isn't one.

Does Netflix? Yes, certainly. With some great features and some limitations.

Does MKV on USB drive? Absolutely. But with some restrictions that may or may not be acceptable to you.

That's why Foxbat is right: you have to search and actually read quite a bit to determine whether it's the right choice for you.

Do know that some of the most outspoken voices here absolutely hate the file playback features and Netflix features of this player. You'll have to take that with a grain of salt.

For me these are the two features of my 110 that get 95% of its use.

And, to add the flip side of Brandenborg's comment, I don't use the file playback feature and mostly use my AppleTV2 for Netflix, so the 210 is a rock-solid DVD/BD player for me with other useful apps that don't give me any problems.

From reading posts on this thread, one implication seems to be that the BDP65 has better Netflix streaming ability than the BDT210. Would that assumption be correct?
Does anyone know what exactly did the 1.80 firmware update does? I looked at the Panasonic support site and it says 1.68 is latest.

I wouldn't say that. Sure the 65 has no black flashes, but it also lacks search, DD5.1, captions, one-button access to Netflix, wifi, and the 210's better image processing. So the 65 is better in only one respect and worse in every other.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that all players are going to change PQ on the fly according to the stream and your bandwidth. The difference is the 110/210/310 show nothing while this is happening (blank screen), and other players either continue to display a picture or stop completely to re-buffer. In any case, each blank frame only lasts fractions of a second. It can be annoying, or you may learn to ignore it, or you may rarely/never experience it at all if you have very fast and steady service and the Netflix server you're on is steady. Even though it happened infrequently with me (a few times a month), when it did, it was too annoying, especially when I already had other Netflix streamers that did a better job. Hopefully the 2012 models won't have this issue.

An interesting thing I've found however, is that since I gave my old 110 to a family member with much slower internet than mine, they never see black flashes since the PQ always stays low and never tries to go higher. So consistency seems to be a key factor.

I"m waiting on a manufacter refurb BDT210 that I got for $99. I"ll see how it works with Netflix through my Comcast DSL. Always have the 65 to fall back on. Thanks for the info. Very helpful!

The Netflix issue is understandably frustrating, since an explanation, never mind a solution, has been elusive. It's an important feature to a lot current consumers, and it should work properly. That the problem that seemingly affects the NF clients of only these select models suggests that it is deeply rooted in Panasonic's hardware, and likely chronic.

The networking and media compatibility issues affect a smaller, but more demanding group. These are more complex tasks, and even devices that specialize in them have their own sets of quirks and limitations.

Personally, I wouldn't expect an old, stodgy company like Panasonic, which also has to play closer to industry "rules," to excel in this area. Their inclusion probably reflects a desire to retain some measure of competitive feature parity rather than a real desire to implement them fully, and well. There are those who can cope with digging a hole with a spoon, but for many others who lack such desire, shovels are readily available.

Thanks to some concerted efforts on the part of some here to understand and tackle both issues, the strengths and weaknesses of these players is an open book.
