By the way, is 55" bit much then?

If you have to move your head side-to-side, then the TV is too big.

Otherwise, get the biggest TV you can fit in there.

I am more concerned about the quality of the two TVs. Right now I am leaning towards getting the LG, unless anyone thinks there is a reason to stick with the Sony and Active shutter technology?

Dude LG is by far a great buy. Price and quality in the same package don't come by often! You'd better hurry on getting this on that Fry's special, cuz the sale ends tonight!

The 55LW5600 finally arrived this afternoon! I am so glad I got the 55" model rather than the 47"! (I usually sit about 12' from the TV.)

The factory-settings gave the display a cheap-video look. I went through the wizard, and it didn't help much. Then, I entered Kandionkhrome's settings and it made a world of difference. Thanks! I watched a 3-D movie via HBO on-demand. It's just amazing to watch something like this on a home TV!

The back of the Magic Motion remote arrrived cracked. It still works, but I may contact LG and see if it can be replaced. I sure don't want to return the TV for this issue.

The only minor complaint I've had so far is herky jerky (to use a technical term ) motion on an HD TV show. I'm sure there's some setting that I need to change for that.

I only saw that happen [a little jerkey] to me on one Disney show, and it wasn't even HD. So I assume it was the station since the rest of HD was fine.

You can press the "Enter" button on the TV remote to see what resolution it thinks it sees. This happened to me on my Scientific Atlanta STB's.
Second. After forcing the STB to output 1080i, and it still doesn't work, try another HDMI cable. Even though I got the package from BuyDig with multiple 1.4 HDMI cables, one of them will NOT pass 3D, although it seems to work for everything else.

Thanks. I will give it a try when the kids aren't in front of it complaining that daddy won't let them watch Disney.

thanks, i just picked mine up today! a couple weeks ago i almost picked it up, but things didn't work out. i wasn't going to miss out this time! let's see how the nba finals, game 2 looks tonight in glorious 3d. i watched game 1 in 3d on my lg 50PX950 3d pdp. it'll be interesting to see the difference b/t active vs passive.

Yep Vegggas, you were correct, that the TV does not see 1080i, it sees 480p, but I cannot get the STB to give me 1080i no matter what I do. I tried a different HDMI cable and different HDMI port too. I'll call Comcast at some point.

Congrats Lefty, I hope it gives you years of enjoyment.

The Metadata descriptions and flags for On Demand content used in a lot of cable head ends do not always correctly set the HD flag and even though it may be in HD, the TV doesn't see the HD flag, so it requests the STB to send 480p over the HDMI protocol.
A quick search for the pace box brings up these instructions:

Putting your set-top into user settings mode
1. Make sure that your set-top is turned on (POWER light is green).
2. Press the POWER button on your remote control (POWER light goes off), then press the Menu button. You should see the USER SETTINGS menu, shown right, on your TV screen.
3. When you have finished making changes (see pages 11 through 15), press the POWER button to remove the USER SETTINGS menu and return to normal viewing.
***********************
Changing the TV Display Capability
If you have not already done so, put your set-top into User Settings mode, as described on page 11. Press the U or D button on your remote control and highlight TV Display Capability on the USER SETTINGS menu.
The available resolutions are: 1080p*, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i.
1. To change the TV Display Capability, press the R button.
The TV Display Capability menu appears on your TV screen.
TV Display Capability
1080i : YES
720p : NO
480p : NO
480i : NO
1080p Pass : YES
2. Press the U or D button to highlight each resolution in turn and, for each one, press the OK/Select button [Say NO to 480i/p and 720P to ensure HD On Demand content comes out as True HD for 3D and other content when available] if you wish to change the setting (the setting changes between YES and NO each time you press OK/
Select).
If, at any stage in this process, the menu disappears from the screen, immediately press the OK/Select button to restore the menu.
3 Repeat step 2 until you have tried all the resolutions.
4. When you are satisfied that all the TV resolutions are correct, press the L button. The USER SETTINGS menu reappears.

Any help?

If you have a PS3, now that the PSN store is back up, if you go to the video section, under Featured Collections there's a 3D collection.. there's lots of short demo videos for free in there that have some pretty cool pop (and 3D movies to rent/buy). I only watched a couple demos (Terra I believe was one of them) had some objects that looked like they were 3-4 feet in front of the screen. Pretty cool.

I'm hooked on passive! Stunning image indeed! Never going back to active! The NBA Finals tonight was killer in p-3d! Putting my PX up for sale on Craig's list!

Is it just me, or when you convert 2d>3d you are able to see the lines more? I was watching the basketball game and it was almost unwatchable.

I got the set just to watch 3d blu ray and the issue is almost nonexistent on blu ray. I guess you cant have the best of both worlds.

This is for anyone who has seen the 3d demo at bestbuy. There is a scene where the fish comes out about 2 feet from the screen. I have watched 8 different 3d movies so far on my 46 and there was not a single effect like that. The depth is there but sword or sharks coming out of the screen is not. Is it because of the size of the tv or a settings issue or something else? Any help/feedback is appreciated.

Off the screen gimmicks are based on content, this shouldn't vary between displays.

Yeah, no go, it times out. Does this on all three of my browsers. I've been trying it through anonymizer services just to see if it's my ISP doing it, can't get it to work there, changed my DNS on my laptop so I'm using Google, nothing. It's bizarre.

I like those gimmicks and so do my kids. Downloaded the LG demo content and size of the tv makes a huge difference. It seems the bigger the tv the more things come out at you. That is my opinion, others may feel different.

So, weirdly, it works here at work, so the issue is clearly ISP-related. And since I'd already made a PDF of my receipt when I bought my warranty from SquareTrade, I was able to upload it and just do it all in one fell swoop. So we'll see what happens.

Yes. It must be isp related. I even used it on my ipod touch using safari. Works fine.

I can get the 47LW6500 for $155 more than a 47LW5600. Is it worth it for the 240Hz? I'd like the smoothest possible Xbox/PS3 experience with the least possible input lag.

I was watching this exact demo at BB today and there happened to be an LG rep there. I commented how incredible it looked and he told me that demo was 'filmed' in 3-D [I'm sure I'm stating this wrong] or something and that normal 3-D content will not really look like that. I'm not sure of the actual technical aspect of this but he basically told me not to expect things popping that far out of the screen at home.

If you don't mind me asking oneonefive, where did you manage to find a place to download the LG demo?
I have been watching some 3D on my directv. They provide 3 free channels plus a paid movie channel. One of the free channels is sort of like a Discovery channel. It's usually showing wildlife videos. The videos are filmed especially for 3D and look awesome. There are some scenes where a leopard looks like he is jumping out of the screen. This is on a 47".

The 3D looks the best when it is intentionally filmed in 3D and the directer makes conscience decisions how his scene is shot.

Thanks. I have the Cisco RNG150N version, or at least I guess it's different since this isn't getting into any other settings menu than the pisspoor one that is available.

I have D* too & love the 3d channels they give us for free! 3NET(Sony, IMAX & Discovery), n3d, n3d on Demand$$ & of course 3D ESPN.

We also have Fios, but they want $$ for their 3D Channels.
