I am using the calibration given in the forum. What I found a lot of clouding is when I have an input that is not active. For example, if the blu ray is not on but I insist that it switches to that input and the LG logo started moving on the screen. Then I realized that may be at this state, it is not using the calibration that I have set. So I followed your advice and use a black picture to check. Once the blu ray player is turn on with the black picture,
1) if I set it to intelligent sensor, then basically no clouding at all;
2) if I set it to what I have calibrated to, then there is a very small amount of clouding on the edge.

However, I found the intelligent senor produces a picture that is way too dark for me. So I am sticking with the calibration I have.

Thanks for the suggestion.

My set also has clouding. Please see my above post for my experience.

Can you post a picture and your settings? Try to post a pic when the screen is totally black.

Opinions on clouding and flashlighting differ widely.

For the typical consumer, anything that is not visible with normal programming material in a room with ambient light present is acceptable.

For the typical AVS user, any clouding on a blank input screen is an issue. Flashlighting visible in a totally dark environment with a letter boxed movie playing is a deal breaker.

To me, it is what bothers you. I'm not too concerned about blank input images, as I never sit there staring at a blank input. At least not when I'm taking my meds.

I do want the black bars on a letterboxed movie to be black. Light bleeding into the corners in this situation would bother me. I don't tend to watch tv in a pitch black room, however, so if it is black with ambient light present in the room - I'm ok.

X two! I see a slight clouding in the LG start-up screen, but then it seems to disappear when I have any valid input to the TV.... satellite, the Blu-ray player or streaming off NetFlix or VUDU, and none that I've noticed in the black bars above and below the letterbox picture.

Isn't 3.11.04 the current revision? Sounds like the OP was just exceptionally late to the party.

Another update may be on the way, IIRC a couple of days before the last update a similar thing happened, where a pop-up shows that a firmware update is available and when you manually look for it it doesn't show. I had the same thing happen last night...

Hi all

I am seriously considering buying a the LG 47" LW5600 3D LED TV..

i notice on the stores website it shows 2 models with the same number, but one of them shows "NEW for 2011" and I want to know if there is a way to "check" on the TV at the store if it is the 2010 model or 2011.

My main goal is to watch 3D Blu Ray content and deffinetly play Video Games..Such as PS3,Xbox360, and PC..

Does this TV still have the "lag issues" as I play alot of FPS games...

Will ANY video game that says 3D be able to be played on this TV? example; I thought I read that Call Of Duty Black Ops was ONLY active shutter 3D. but yet people on here say they played it ??

sorry for long post and noob questions just wants some clearifacation. Thanks alot

All current 3D formatting is supported on this set. And yes Black Ops 3D plays just fine on this set
post #1691 of 8097
What about the "lag" factor I am reading about? Is that all set now or does it still exsist? I plan on playing online FPS alot and cannot have lag..

Deffinetly want to watch THOR 3D Blu-Ray too that would be awesome
Thanks all

Most people who have complained about input lag on this TV eventually discovered that the settings they had in place were perpetuating the problem.

(I would like to hear more about this "change the label to PC" thing I read about before, though. That just makes no sense to me.)
Thnx

what exactly are you refering too with the "change the PC"?

does anyone here have any specs I can "copy" for the TV settings for Video Game lag free? thanks

I have the intelligent sensor off because the screen brightness changes significantly when I turn the lights off during bedtime or somebody walk in front a light, etc. My wife and I found it annoying

There seems to be two general calibration groups in this forum (everywhere?). Those that like dark calibrations for movies and watching in the dark and those the like lighter & more vibrant pictures (I'm the latter). Many of the calibrations posted in this forum are darker calibrations.

A good dark screen to to adjust backlights is the beginning and end of a Stargate Atlantis episode during the MGM logo. Freeze frame on that and adjust to your liking.

Also, if you are interested in how the local dimming works and how it can influence clouding having something like the Directv screensaver logo bouncing around on the screen is fantastic. You can actually see each LED zone turn on & off as the logo moves around the screen.

Love love love this tv so far.... but then I played call of duty for xbox

The lag makesit almost unplayable. My old westinghouse has a better response rate than this. Are there any settings I can change to fix this? Really disappointed right now
post #1696 of 8097
On the phone with Comcast right now. They must add a 'code' to the box to get 3D, so it sounds as if they must activate your STB in order to get 3D. Hopefully, this will work now. I will test soon.

Search this thread. Their are several suggested fixes or things you can do to mitigate the lag.

Try using the "Game" mode, or turn off TruMotion and Local Dimming.

People mentioned that labeling the input as "PC" helped. That seems to suggest that the "Game" mode doesn't turn off all the features that requires buffering video frames.

See, I'm skeptical on this part...I'm not sure why just changing an input label string would have that much of an effect.

(I am considering testing this: fire up Rock Band 3, make a note of the calibration settings I currently have. Change the label to "PC", and recalibrate. If this works as advertised, the numbers should drop pretty dramatically.)

I haven't try it myself. I was skeptical like you. But in the owner's manual, it does talk about setting the "Input Label - PC" if you are using HDMI-PC (p. 107).

That was the case with me and thats the reason I asked. I dont know why somebody is telling I am late to the party.

So I'm finally getting around to dling the LG demo (been busy getting ready for Vaca tomorrow, sue me ) anywho, do I need to convert it to an mkv or is the file good to go?

NM I just looked at the file and it is an MKV, nobody look at me I'm a moron....
I just got the 47LW5600. I'm digging it so far. I have a Marantz SR6003 A/V receiver that sounds great, and I run all of my components through the receiver. After reading the comments about game lag, I'm wondering whether it's better to run the HDMI for xBox360 & PS3 straight to the TV, rather than through my receiver. Any thoughts on whether running gaming consoles through a receiver adds to lag due to the additional time the receiver needs to process signals?

Thanks.

Pm sent, and I just played it and like others the sound didn't work. Im going to try to find other company 3D demos too.

I just converted the LG 3D demo (original MKV) to a MP4 file and the sound now works!

I used this free video converter.

If the problem's just the audio, do you really need to do a full-on conversion? I found this app:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PopCo...AudioConverter

that just remixes an MKV's audio to AC3 without screwing with the video. Probably would work a heck of a lot faster.

It finally got dark enough in my living room to take a picture. Here are a few. One paused in a scene from The Dark Knight blu-ray, one on the LG loading screen, and one a black screen (respectively).

These images are using Kandionkhrome's settings. I also switched to the cinema setting which was a bit better and put local dimming on high but that bright lower right corner would just brighten up and darken right down. Can't stop looking at it...

Should I just settle for this or return it and hope for a better set?

Chad B said it best, the 5600 series does admirably well in very lighted conditions, but If you're going to nit-pic-it-to-death in a dark room you're NOT going to be able to deal with it.

Dude, this will happen with all LED, local dimming, i've owned the Sony 909 and now i've got the 5600(like the 3d passive better than active) no getting around it. Get a VT30 pdp & you'll be happy. Otherwise enjoy your 5600 in regular viewing, not in a cave, as you'll go crazy with the various shortfalls of LEDs.
