Agreed, pay less and get more

Actually there's about 4 or so settings posted , there's also links to settings too.
But different people have different taste so at the end most just modified to their own with some brighter and some darker, also depending on where they place their tv too.

the 5700 does not have local dimming , a bit lower on contrast, and no magic remote . But because it's from Costco you will get 2 year warranty included in the price, it's on sale for $999 at my local Costco.

Correct. Fry's only gives you 1 year warranty. However, depending on the credit card you buy it with it can extend your warranty. My credit card covered me for an extra 2 years. So a 3 year total warranty. It also gives me 90 days Protection. So if I break it or it gets stolen in 90 days i'm covered

Sorry for the shouting, got too excited.

I'll have to play with that, being able to turn on the PS3 from the TV will be a dream!

Be Aware! If you pause a game, DO NOT turn off the TV. Simplink will "help" you out by turning off the PS3. The PS3 should prevent this from happening, since it does prevent it when you have the PS3 in "turn off when done downloading" mode.

I still haven't gotten simplink to work on my ps3, is it because it's a fatty?

Thanks I kept forgetting about the wifi dongle thingie .

I also have a pop up when I went into menu today. Only in menu. Updating.......... , completed etc , it pops up every time I go into menu. It seems the premium apps are getting updated , or doing their normal check for update . I was planning to do a hard reset to night if its still looping, but It stopped on their own after 2 hours , no more pop ups in menu. I wonder if they updated any apps.?.

LOL! I wish, but my PS3 is fat, she needs to lose weight, I can't even get her to output lossless audio. I hate to say it but I may have to dump her for a skinny one Wait what were we talking about again?

i think it's personal preference. I watch mine in both light and dark. It looks great in both to me. From what I have read in this forum if you are an extremely picky cinema geek this TV is not for you in a dark setting. But on the other hand, if you are an extremely picky cinema geek why are you buying a $799 TV?

Can someone help me with choosing an LED tv?

I am trying to decide between the LG 47/55LW5600 and the 6 series samsung. I looked at Fry's, Costco and Bestbuy. At Fry's the LGs and Samsung did not seem to have a big difference in picture quality. But they had the 47LW5600 by itself and I couldn't compare it side-by-side with a samsung. At Costco the samsungs looked much better and the 47LW5600 did not seem to have a good pic quality. The vizios also looked better than the LG. Bestbuy had some concert on the TVs and I couldn't discern which TV was better (again the LW5600's was by itself).

Both at Costco and Bestbuy the reps said Samsung is the best and sony is next.

Can this LG compare to samsung at all (after changing settings or calibration) or am I better off going with Samsung (wife likes it)?

We don't care much for 3D but I will use the 3D (PS3 and computer) if I buy the LG. I am not planning on buying the $150 glasses for the samsung. I can get the Fry's $799 deal, so I am wondering if the price difference makes up for the picture quality.

I can go up to $1500 for the right TV. But I will take the $799 deal if it is really one.

Thanks,

For $799 you can't beat the price for all the features you get with the TV. You get 30 days to decide with Fry's. Save the $800. I did.

Last year my buddy and I argued about quality and price. He bought the Samsung 6100 (55") for $2800. I bought the Vizio 55xvt551svt for $1999. I told him he got screwed. Long story short, he had to buy a sound bar to make it sound better and he had light bleed. His TV was 1.5" thick while mine was 3.5". I could care less for the application I needed.

He told me last week he gave the Samsung to his son and bought the Vizio 553D554 or something. He conceded the argument.

Set a budget, read the reviews, and go out and buy and have fun.

I will say again ... For $799 you can't beat the price for all the features you get with this TV.

For anybody on the fence about the Fry's deal...DO IT. Just drop what you're doing, shut off the computer, go to Fry's and buy the darn TV. You will be glad you did. I got the same deal a couple weeks ago and I still can't believe it. I feel like I practically stole the thing. Best Buy had the same set on "sale" for $1500. The cheapest Amazon had it was $1150. Even Fry's was selling it for $899 just over a month ago. $799 is an insanely awesome deal! I love the 2D and 3D picture quality, it includes the cool magic motion remote and the Wi-Fi adapter. Someone at Fry's must be off their meds, seriously. But hey, if you get it home and just don't love it as much as I do you can always return it within 30 days and buy something else for twice as much money.

Just my humble opinion...

Has anyone tried getting into the service menu? I posted a link with instructions and some of what I found in the LV5500 thread.

The service menu is the same across both models and I'm really wondering if anyone has messed with the Time Machine feature. There's built in DVR support for our TV's when you enable it in the service menu and plug in a 40GB+ usb drive. My cable provider isn't compatible enough with the TV to show guide listings and I don't know if anyone in the US would be, but you should still be able to pause live tv, instant replay etc...

I've had a 55LW5600 for several weeks now (got in on the first Fry's 1199 + 8 pairs of glasses + $200 VOD credit deal!), and I have a Denon 3812CI coming today. I'm a little bit confused on a few points, can someone clarify for me before I attempt to wire everthing up later today ?

1. If I hook all of my components to the TV directly, and then attempt to use ARC to get audio from the TV to my receiver, it sounds like I'm limited to only 2 channel ? The TV won't pass the audio signal straight through for DTS-MA, etc. ?

2. Assuming that ARC is limited to 2 channels from question 1, then:

a) ARC's only purpose is to get audio from the TV's built in apps without running a separate optical cable ?

b) I need to connect my source components to the receiver in order to get 7.1 digital audio. The fact that the TV remembers settings for each input pretty much doesn't matter since everything is connected to the receiver, which then connects to the TV via a single input. I.E. only one input would ever be used on the TV and all source components connected to the receiver would display on the TV using the same settings. Correct ?

3. I also have a Windows 7 media center PC hooked up and a GT 430 video card. I use ArcSoft TMT 5 to play bluray and it works great, including bitstreamed DTS-MA and Dolby TruHD. However, 3D bluray does not look very good (you can tell its "trying" to be 3D, but it just doesn't quite look focused and seems to have some "ghosting" or something. Also when I start a 3D bluray the TV does not come up with the standard pop-up about 3D content and putting on your glasses, its like the 3D is being "processed" by the computer instead (if that makes any sense). Anyone have experience with 3D bluray from a PC and one of these LG passive sets ?

Thanks!!!

Good to know, LG specs on it's site listed it as missing from the set.

I believe it's the optical output that limits the sound to DD or 2.1. The ARC should just return the sound to the receiver and let it do the proper processing.

Has anyone tried using HDMI splitters to get the full lossless audio to a receiver, while still using separate inputs on the TV for multiple sources (so that you can have different TV settings, depending on source)?

At first I thought that one way to do this would be to have a splitter on the HDMI-out of each source. Then, from each source you'd run one of the splitter outputs to the TV, and the other to the receiver. I THINK this might work, although some HDMI splitters behave in strange ways. You'd need one that can have both outputs working at the same time, and probably a powered splitter so that the signals are actually regenerated, and not just wires being tied together.

An alternate method might be to simply run all source HDMI feeds just to the receiver, and use the receiver's internal HDMI switching. Then, put a splitter on the output of the receiver, and then run the multiple outputs into multiple HDMI inputs on the TV. Depending on which source the receiver was switched to, you'd then use a different copy of the receiver's output.

Perhaps there are fatal flaws in either of these approaches.....
I haven't tried. I'm stuck with a fatty PS3 right now so lossless audio is, pardon the pun, lost on me
post #1920 of 8099
Maybe I'm missing something here, but wouldn't another alternative be using a blu-ray player with the smart web (such as Panny's Viera Cast) and then use optical or HDMI out of the player to your receiver for your audio and use the player for Vudu, Netflix, etc? That way you don't have to use the audio out on the TV.
