probably has nothing to do with it but I just am trying to understand it more. Thanks..
also what are people doing in order to make thier MKV's work on the LG? Are you converting them to something else? such as .avi or something? Thanks alot
If you are using your LG TV to play any video files with DTS audio it will have no sound. different Speakers, recievers, won't matter because the LG could not read DTS sound therefore could not pass it along to either decoder.
The LG TV can play MKV files fine, the only ones that will give you problems are the ones with DTS audio, or in certain cases even some AC3 audio.
If you are using your LG TV as the READER/PLAYER
-And your MKV files are stored in your computer, then you will need a Server program that can transcode your MKV with DTS audio to AC3, stereo, etc.
. PLEX, Nero media home full verion, Ps3 media server , etc.
(me:Transcoding uses lots of CPU power, only have laptop right now ,server software have issues here and there. )
-If most of your MKV is not DTS and you can just share your folder/files as is. (me: half of my files is in DTS, so no go)
-You can also convert/ change the DTS audio to AC3 audio and then put it back together in the MKV file. (me: too much hassle, getting old, getting lazy)
So I just went back to my old way. Using a Western Digital HD Media Player LIVE.
Plays pretty much anything. Simple to setup, and don't need to do any transcoding so I'll have no problem sharing all my files as is from my laptop over the local network. This was my hassle free way for my old Sony and now it'll be the same for the LG.
I have the old Sony soundbar too and it works fine with it.
