From what I understand it doesn't include the magic remote, some dimming features, etc. and the model # changes have more to do with avoiding price matching than anything else. Same "basic" TV from my understanding.

I had my unit professionally calibrated (ISF) by a guy that's been in the broadcasting biz for 4 decades. I sat there while he did it. He had a lot of positive things to say about this model. He had a negative experience trying to calibrate a Panny plasma the previous day -- the VT-30.

Do you have any idea about the ps3 bluray problem that was talked about in this tread the green and purple lines when watching 3D blurays on the ps3 like has that been fixed ? Also if your a gamer can you really notice the lower resolution when in 3D.

I have the 55LW5600 and use my ps3 often. I have had no problem with picture quality and have noticed no issues with gameplay and have played most of the 3d capable games. I love the set for gaming and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Love the bluray playback also, no problems that I have found even when calibrating with the wow discs. Fantastic picture imho.

I hate to do this and understand if no one responds. Looking at the 60pz950 vs the 55lw5600. Yes I know the active passive debate, pz glasses losing sync, motion blur on LED (LCD) vs Plasma. But other than the extreme obvious can anyone give me some good pro's and con's?

Posting same q on the pz thread.

Thanks to all,

I know some of you like that dull, dark cinema look but not me. I like a bright vibrant picture that pops, makes you say "wow!" but at the same time looks realistic and not overdone. Here goes...

Picture mode: Standard
Backlight: 80
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 50
Sharpness: 50
Color: 55
Tint: 0
Color Temp: 0
Dynamic Contrast: Medium
Dynamic Color: High
Clear White: Off
Skin Color: 0
Noise Reduction: Low
Super Resolution: On
MPEG Noise Reduction: Low
Gamma: Medium
Black Level: Low (for some reason, on my Component input I have to set this to High, but both HDMIs get Low)
Eye Care: Off
Real Cinema: On
Color Gamut: Wide

Tru Motion: Off
LED Local Dimming: Medium
Energy Saving: Off

I applied this to all inputs, the only other change being with 3D I set the backlight to 100 to compensate for the tinted glasses. This is the way LG had it set up, presumably for that reason. All in all, this is just a toned down version of LG's "Standard" settings. Likewise, in a dark room you might want to turn the backlight down a bit to prevent burning your retinas.

Tru Motion is really based on preference. I had it on at first, as I found the "soap opera" effect and fluid pans kind of a novelty but it wore off quick. Especially with movies it made everything look fake or computer generated. I could see using this with sports or something, but for general viewing I leave it off.

If you try these settings, please post some feedback. Thanks!

Dano,

Trying these out and so far I love them. Thanks for posting. I like my image to pop and can't stand the "cinema" look at home. If I wanted that I'd go to the cinema.

I'm not a cinemaphile, I'm an entertainment-phile! I like the picture to reach out and grab me.

These settings look great on the IMAX under the sea 3D BluRay.

I notice my Real Cinema is greyed out. Am I missing something stupid?

Thanks,

The Ps3 problem was fixed by updating your TV firmware.

If you happen to have lag problems, just rename (relabel) the input of your connection from "hdm" to "pc" and you'll be good to go.

If you have good eyes you will notice the change in resolution (a very small bit), but it'll still be in HD and will not distract you in anyway. The light weight of the 3d glassee makes long 3d gaming much more comfortable.

If you have a Frys store near by you can get them for pretty cheap:
47lw5600 $799
55lw5600 $1199

Real Cinema is greyed out if your input source is not 1080

Real Cinema will be selectable if your input source is 1080

As much as it would benefit the group, it's borderline piracy. These calibratators do so for a living and posting those settings out there in the ether would potentially take food off of their tables. Out of respect for the professional calibrators that contribute to this site please refrain from asking people who spent the money on a pro-cal to post their settings publicly.

5700 does not have local dimming, it has a lower contrast ratio, and it may or may not have the wifi dongle. 5600 is the way to go between the two.

Yeah my Futureshop has the 47" 5600 on for $1399 and the 47" 5700 for $1499 but they are throwing in a free LG 3D bluray player with the 5700 and I guess it comes with the magic remote or some crap. What exactly is the local dimming all about ?
local dimming is what edeg lit tv's use to help black levels, it breaks down the tv into zones and software tells it what led's to use and to what brightness. Also the 5600 comes with the magic wand as well.

Ok thanks man I guess I'll go with the 5600 I don't need the bluray player as I have a ps3.

Is the 55LW6500 worth the price difference over the 55LW5600?
Biggest difference between the 2 is 120hz vs. 240hz, but most opinions state that the difference between the two is not noticable at all. But YMMV. Last I checked the 5600 was available at Fry's Electronic for 1199.00 with 10 pair of glasses, which is the best deal I've seen hands down. I'm not sure how much the 6500 can be had for.

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased 55LW5600 from Fry's and I am loving it.

I want to know from you all what are the accessories I need to buy to enjoy the TV more e.g. sound bar, particular type of HDMI cable, etc.

I am not looking to splurge but if you tell me good value for money accessories and where I can buy them. I will appreciate it.

Thanks for your help in advance,

If you aren't getting your cables from Monoprice.com, you're doing it wrong.

I wouldn't get a sound bar unless space is a huge factor. They aren't bad, but you can do much better for not a ton more money. check around the audio forum for receiver and speaker suggestions. Energy 5.1 speaker set, lots of receiver options under $400, etc. You have the tv, now just grab the sound and blu ray and you're set (and don't rule out a playstation 3) as blu ray player that also does games.

Can someone please help me with a question please?

So i am finally sitting down to change the "settings" and calabrate the 47lw5600

I set my bluray and cable inputs up and changed the settings using the ISF expert 1 mode.

I use "medialink/plexserver" ALOT and i would like to know how i can change the settings for this feature? I would like to use the ISF expert setting as well.

Also some of my shows "modern family" show the subtitles while playing and i would love to know how to turn them off?

Thank you all in advance

you can try pressing the [q.menu] button while the video is playing, it should give you some options like video settings, subtitles, etc. you can see if you can select isf, but it might only give you the standard/cinema/game.

I don't use plex so I can't test this out.
Yes it only gives the basics... I really hope there is a way to change this.

Thanks for your help in advance,

if you don't have a 3d blu-ray player or sound system yet, you might want to take a look at the Samsung HT-D5500 3d 5.1 Wi-Fi Blu-ray Home Theater System.
it's on sale at Frys store for $199. add this to your tv and you're good to go.
The best part is it support mkv, dts, wifi, ipod dock, etc.

Meant if Samsung comes out with their new 3d tech next year that allows active clarity with passive glasses.

I've done repeated comparisons between active and passive and saw far more stuttering and ghosting in the active sets. It looked no clearer and looked more like cardboard cutouts to me.

I am very happy with my LG 55lw5600.

About the only complaint I have is when the scene switches rapidly to an angle with predominant bright whites or sunlight and the screen washes out. Have noticed this in Drive Angry 3D and a broadcast of Grumpy Old Men (lots of snow). Anyone else notice this? Any fix?
