I hate to display my ignorance but here goes...in order to experience 2D to 3D conversion one must have a 3D blu-ray player. Or can the 5600 do it ''on its own''???

The 5600 had the capability to do the conversion. No additional 3d players needed. You just press the 3d button and choose 2d to 3d.

I would measure but mine is buried. It's just a standard PC power cord. I'm thinking 6'. Maybe somebody that has access can do the actual measuring.

Thanks! I did everything but what you suggested.

I wonder why there is such a discrepancy on this from person to person. Are you using Game mode? I use Game mode with my 360 and don't notice any lag at all.

I would agree! I've been on several other forums and repeated questions are not tolerated. I like that fact that the folks on this forum and this thread particularly are extremely helfpul and accomodating...

And, over time, newer members learn how to effectively use the search button and it generally becomes a non-issue for those newer members. My 2 cents!

I'm measuring about 56" (4' 8") from where power cord exits the back of TV to the end of the plug (looking at the TV from the back, the power cord exits the set just to the left of center and slightly below the center line).

I second this (or would that be third?). I am always bothered by people on various message boards where people cannot simply help out by simply answering the questions being answered or by providing a link to where the question was already answered.

Seems like you didn't go through the whole thread. Eithat that or it's easy to miss a post in a 2500+ post thread, wouldn't you agree?

I appreciate what you did, and I saw that when you first posted, that's some good indexing, a must for the new guys. THAT why I recommend people to spend the time to read the whole thread so they wont miss something like that!

But I dont get the part about "seems I didn't go through the whole tread part". I pretty sure I was there answering and asking questions.

Haha, I was just being facetious. Badly.

Then there is this.. " Give a hungry man a fish, and he "might" be grateful, and respect you.. and will be back... "Give a hungry man a fishing pole and "teach him how to fish, and he still might be greatful and respect you but he just "might" hold his head a litttlle bit higher, and certainly respect himself...he still might be back as an equal and a friend. Just my three cents.. ( inflation?

Thanks a lot Rarjar. Big help. Cord is shorter than I would have guessed. Now I can order a longer cord of appropriate length before my 55" gets here next Wednesday.

Much appreciated.

Ok, so just got my set tonight, still have a lot of playing around to do...

Very disappointed to find out my directv box (HR20) is NOT 3D ready, so I need to upgrade.

On the topic of 2D -> 3D conversion, is there any recommendations for settings, or is it more of just trying out different combinations until you find one that works best?

Also, regarding the "left/right" or "right/left", is there any way to tell which is right, or is it by trial?

So far the 2D -> 3D seems kinda gimmicky, as expected. although granted I haven't tried it with much yet.

As far as your HR20 Directv box, I recommend just calling and asking for an upgrade. I had no idea I could call and ask for an upgrade so for 3 weeks of having this TV, I was considering purchasing a new HD-DVR form Directv.

I was having some problems with some HD content so I requested a service technician to come out and he gave me a new dish, but while he was here, he suggested I call and say my TV is a 3D TV and my current DVR does not support 3D. So I did so, and they sent me a newer DVR that supports 3D.

Just to let you know, they did NOT send me the latest Directv DVR, but the first to support 3D, which is the HR-21. I guess I can't complain.

Hello, owners of 55LW5600, I just recently purchased this great looking TV and have just begun to play and calibrate it.

My question/concern is that when I hit the 3D button, the only available option from the 3D mode thumbnails is 2D -> 3D. All other options are grayed out. Am I supposed to have the other options available to me, even when watching regular cable TV? Or have I done something wrong already to it?

Any help to ease my mind would be greatly appreciated.

for me, Left/Right is normally the correct setting most of the time, (above 80%)
But depending on the source of the video and the encoder it could be Right/left too.

you shouldn't need to worry, your eyes will tell you right away which is the correct one. ( the one that doesn't give you a headace) . hurts your eye
example:your background is jumping in front instead of staying in the back.

the 2D to 3d doesn't work well in fast action scenes, but for slow ones, they do ok. some times when a person is smoking, you can see the cigarette sticking out lol.

Also, if you use [2d to 3d] to watch certain SD videos, it video actually looks better. The Passive glasses filters the image and your mind re-process it again, and fill in the blanks, (almost like upscaling) This is probably due to the interlace effect of the passive 3d. not really sure how to explain it, it kinda like watching SD on the old CRT TVs. i don't do this offend but it's fun from time to time. Play some Wii games with it too.

looks normal too me, I think it depends on your Cable box too. I have most of them gray out too for TV viewing. If your cable boxs supports 3d broadcasting then you should be able to see [side by side] and [top, bottom] selectable with the rest two gray out.

When I switch to my other HDMI sources/input , (WD media player hdmi>TV) the other modes wll no longer be gray out, and will be selectable for me to watch [side by side] 3d MKV files.

I honestly don't know either. I have a 42 inch panasonic st30 and just purchased the lw5600. Ended up taking the lg back due to lag. I tried everything. Game mode as well as labeling hdmi as PC. The panasonic had no input lag at all and had deeper and better blacks and colors. My room is usually covered with blinds so light isn't a problem. Made me appreciate the plasma technology even more. I honestly believe if anybody puts these two sided by side you would agree the plasma looks better. However I do miss the passive 3d. Don't know why but passive seems to have more depth than active although the resolution drop is noticeable with both side by side. Both are great sets but the lg just couldn't match the plasmas colors or blacks. Just thought id give an update. Have a great day.

For those that just got the TV,once you connect to the internet, you can test out the 3d from your Tv apps.

Your Tv comes with a $5.99 credit for Vudu , so that's enough for 1 Free movie.
But if you just want to check out 3d stuff here and there, you can watch 2 min SAMPLEs on every movie for free.

There's also youtube. just search for "YT3d" , there's a bunch of 3d clips on there too.
Something to play with until you get real 3d source.

Called DirecTv tonight and they said they will send me an upgrade, should have it within 3 business days. Wish I knew this before, would have arranged it so I had it before the TV came! Oh well...

Not really sure which model they are going to send me, at one point she did mention HR-24, but I think that was when she thought that was the only 3D capable device, she later figured out anything AFTER the HR-20 will work. So I won't be surprised if I don't get a 24, but whatever they send will be fine with me as long as it works!

You want the hr24. Its the best they have now. Btw, by getting the upgrade your directv contract will be extended another 2 years. Not a big deal if you plan to stay with dtv.

Well changed my order to a 55". Well see once it gets here. Tried passive again and it's much easier on my eyes than the Samsung active I tried.

Thanks for the head's up, they didn't mention it to me, but I don't plan on leaving, so it's fine.

Also, I'm hoping they send me a hr24, but I'll take whatever they send me for free as long as it works.

I didn't know that about Vudu, do I have to do something to activate it? How do I work that?
Calibrated the LG set is match for most LED Sonys and Samsungs it has an excellent HD picture, SD is not so good. Where it shines is the passive 3D, great depth and very easy on the eyes. Test out active and keep the glasses on for at least half an hour and see how you go. My eyes give way after about 15 minutes, no problem with hours of passive 3D.

I haven't try it yet.

Go into menu and open up Vudu apps. Once you are there you should see something like "Free HD Movie" or this $5.99 credit on the bottom Once you click on either one, it should have step by step instruction on what to do next.
You might not even need to sign up anything, maybe just click and play the movie, but if you do, they might just need your email for the Free $5.99 credit activation.

They also give free credit on the Ps3 and other internet blu-ray players.

Because I've bought this display and new BD players for my LR and BR, I'm running out of email addresses to give them for a freebie as I've already been a paying customer from accessing them from a BD that I retired.
